carusoam Posted April 12, 2018 Report Posted April 12, 2018 A young col Potter meets Jimmy Stewart? -a- Quote
jasona900 Posted April 12, 2018 Report Posted April 12, 2018 They have one of those on display at the SAC Museum in Omaha. It is quite a sight to see in person. Thank you for the video! Quote
flyboy0681 Posted April 12, 2018 Report Posted April 12, 2018 If I had to pin down my favorite experimental military plane it would be the XB-70 Valkyrie. It was the Steve McQueen of the skies and just reeked cool even when standing still. 1 Quote
kris_adams Posted April 12, 2018 Report Posted April 12, 2018 So I'd like to watch the entire movie now! Thanks! Quote

Oh dear...he did a touch n go at 4:30...I'm sure he advanced his throttles slowly and stayed at full power until TOC keeping the fuel in his wet wing tanks (no bladders) safe...all while remaining ROP Quote

steingar Posted April 13, 2018 Report Posted April 13, 2018 The one remaining Valkyrie is on display at the Air Force Museum in Dayton to this day. It is quite a sight. That said, with full fuel (which is would need badly) the Valkyrie couldn't carry missiles, bombs, or much more than a peanut butter sandwich. Quote

But it sure looked good doing it. 1 Quote

kerry Posted April 13, 2018 Report Posted April 13, 2018 I wonder if I could get field approval for a couple of RC jet engines to put on my Mooney wing tips. Might help to get me to cruising altitude. Quote

AaronDC8402 Posted April 13, 2018 Report Posted April 13, 2018 There's a B-36 on display in Tuscon at the Pima Air and Space Museum. I saw it in person last fall. There were a few awesomely large planes there. It was cool to be able to walk up to them and appreciate the scale of them. Quote
AaronDC8402 Posted April 13, 2018 Report Posted April 13, 2018 This was probably my favorite to see in person. That tail was about 50 ft up in the air. Quote
AaronDC8402 Posted April 13, 2018 Report Posted April 13, 2018 Boeing YC-14. According to Wikipedia, only 2 were ever built. Quote

My old manager had a scanned picture on his desktop of (the other) one, in camo-paint scheme. Picture was taken in 1970-s at Iceland airport, during the ferry trip to airshow in Europe. Very unique airplane. Quote
