rblauson Posted March 17, 2011 Report Posted March 17, 2011 Can new SCAT tubing create a slighly sour plastic like smell? As previously stated I just came out of annual and when I open my heat push pull knob I get nice warm air but it smells sour. No oil on the shroud or lying around the engine compartment that I could see. The Scat tubing is all new. I am bewildered at what this could be. My Mechanic has no clue. If I pull a piece of SCAT tubing it sort of smells like the lining of it? Help!!! Any ideas welcome Mark N201SL Quote
Jeff_S Posted March 18, 2011 Report Posted March 18, 2011 Hmm, maybe that's the reason they call it "scat" tubing! Ha, just kidding. I have no clue but I hope you get it figured out. Quote
thinwing Posted March 18, 2011 Report Posted March 18, 2011 Mark...new scat tubing when heated by hot air off the muffler schroud can emit a "plastic smell".Also any orange high temp rtv used can also smell "sour".Some people are really sensitive to smells and you may be detecting smells other people including your mechanic just wouldnt notice.Either way ,the smell will probably go away after whatever plasticizers "cookoff",it just will take time,I wouldnt worry about it and chalk it up to one of those "aircraft engine smells " that come off high temp aircraft engines ....sinc kpc Quote
