Magnetized Cockpit

I turn to Mooney Space as I am in dire need of help with some understanding of how to demagnetize my center windscreen post which my compass is attached to.  The compass is 30+ degrees off and after much investigation it is obvious my post is magnetized.

I purchased a hand held degausser but am not sure how to use it.  The hand held degausser has a 6" coil ring with a push button on/off switch.

Can anyone help me??
