After flying six hours back home from vacation and us having to dodge clouds and running into some rain my other half was calling mine some names I never even thought of.. lol -Tom We're in the same boat Tom.....or should I say plane? To be fair to the Mooney, I'm not sure if it's me or the Mooney she doesn't trust. I have to give the wife some credit though.....I spent a fair amount of time at the airport over the past couple of months going through every system, nook and cranny preparing her (yes, she's a she, although not named) for my son to use over the summer. The wife never complained, although my "honey do" list grew at a rate faster than I expected...... 1 Quote
ohdub Posted July 16, 2016 Report Posted July 16, 2016 My wife named our J before we even bought her. She saw the registration (C-GWED) and said "her name is Gwendolyn". Quote

cnoe Posted July 17, 2016 Author Report Posted July 17, 2016 Chuck does not want a name based on the N number. That's for sure! Due to the terrible block font stenciled on the side of my plane it's occasionally mistaken as "N2DICK" as opposed to the actual "N201CK"! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk 2 Quote
bonal Posted July 17, 2016 Report Posted July 17, 2016 My wife named ours Snoopy because his nose and spinner made him look like the famous beagle. We put Snoopy stickers on the tail and it's appropriate since our most frequent stop is STS named after Charles Schulz. Lots of positive comments at the FBO that has a Snoopy statue out front. Quote
carusoam Posted July 17, 2016 Report Posted July 17, 2016 https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_M._Schulz I got to meet the man while he was on tour signing books at a book store in the 70's. Best regards, -a- 1 Quote

cnoe Posted July 17, 2016 Author Report Posted July 17, 2016 It rolls off the tongue nicely... "Mooney two zero one charlie kilo"... but it's not too pleasing to the eye. I think a new font at paint time will do wonders for my plane's self esteem. N201CK Quote
kommers Posted July 17, 2016 Report Posted July 17, 2016 I call mine Pegasus and Mooniara. Funny, we are going to acquire a new collie pup this October and so far, we have only one possible name for him: "Mooney" Quote
Danb Posted July 17, 2016 Report Posted July 17, 2016 Cnoe are you sure it's a girl, mine have been boys. Quote

JC252MB Posted July 17, 2016 Report Posted July 17, 2016 Our 252 is definitely a female and her name is Rocinante. Depending on your perspective, that name belongs to a Mooney, a broken down plow horse doubling as a brave charger in Don Quiote, a GMC pickup truck going cross country and back in "Travels with Charlie" by John Steinbeck or a ill fated spacecraft having a fatal encounter with a black hole in a Rush song. I love my airplane.... 1 Quote

kommers Posted July 17, 2016 Report Posted July 17, 2016 Well, in that case it is not Rocinante. Possibly Rocinanta Quote

Based on the dick theme, you can name her: NIXON RICARDO HOLMES SHAFT ENIS Based on the 1CK: LOUIS (CK) LOUISA CALVIN (as in Klein) JEAN (as in the jeans) CHARLIE ANGEL 2 Quote
cnoe Posted July 18, 2016 Author Report Posted July 18, 2016 You're getting close. I'm still pretty sure she's a girl though in spite of somebody spray-painting "DICK" across her sides. Sometimes graffiti artists have no heart. If she wasn't a girl I'd lean heavily towards Calvin. But then in keeping with inside jokes I could retain the "theme" and name her "Rickie" (as in Rickie Lee Jones). As a youth I endured much teasing during the popular run of "Chuck E.'s In Love" and to this day still love the song! I may run it by the wife for an opinion. Thanks for your help; where do I send the check? Chuck Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk 1 Quote
Brian Scranton Posted July 18, 2016 Report Posted July 18, 2016 If she's for sure a girl, then how about Ricki Riccardo's lady, Lucy? No one has ever made a Dick more happy. Or, you could go with Tracy, as in Dick Tracy. There is prior art to apply the name Ricki or Ricci (which is a very cool girl's name, IMO), which still allows for great dick jokes when the mood calls. Quote
bcconsult21 Posted July 18, 2016 Report Posted July 18, 2016 My 1965 M20C is "Esperanza" which means "Hope" Beautiful name and I sure HOPE I can keep it Flying physically and financially. Decal is on the cowl. Quote

Great musicians play to great audiences and not demographics. We might never see them tour again but with some luck, maybe we get more new music some day soon. Quote
NotarPilot Posted July 19, 2016 Report Posted July 19, 2016 When I first got my M20J a friend of mine asked me what her name was. The first thing that popped into my head was "Plane Jane" which even coincides with M20Jane. But recently I wanted a name that sounded a little more exciting and adventurous so I decided to change her name to "The Aluminum Falcon" to give it a Star Wars / capable of hyper speed feel to her. But honestly, an Acclaim is probably closer to hyper speed capability than my lowly 201. Quote
