Just to let you know, the traffic collision audio/pop up warning works!  I was flying into LMO and heard a KingAir taking off.  I watched him depart and let him know I would pass over him on my way to the 45 to downwind.  As I watched him starting his left turn, which was also toward the downwind, I got the audio alert, "traffic 10 o'clock low, 1 mile".  Since I had him in sight there was never really a collision hazard, but nice to know the system works.

According to Garmin's web page the GTX 345 will display traffic and weather on the following:

G-1000

G-Pilot

Foreflight Mobile   (Does this mean your I-Phone?)

GTN-650

GTN-750

Just like the GDL-88 it will work with 430/530 series but with limitation on what it will display:

Yes it will. I'm installing the 345 next month and everything I've read (and was told) is traffic and weather will display on the GNS series. I have the 530W/430W combo and from Marauders pic above it will work but limited to 8 targets and no TargetTrend or TerminalTraffic. I think he's mistaken on the GDL88 being the only device to work with the GNS boxes. In any case, I'm going to ask my installer again because I wouldn't buy it if it didn't display on my 530W/430W.

If you go to 1:47 in this video the 530/430 is compatable.

I've spending the morning fixing my responses from yesterday. Apparently sitting out in the sun all day, the word "like" has left my vocabulary. It will function "like a GDL-88". Now to go find the next sun baked response I made yesterday. :)

Lol! I have to admit you had me worried. I have this install scheduled in only a few weeks and I would've been very disappointed to find out wx and traffic didn't display.

I'm holding out for the last thing on the list. Once I know it will work with the Aspens, I'm in.

I had the GTX 345 installed last month and I can tell you for a fact that the 345 works great with the 530W. (Both traffic and weather). When traffic is called out the screen changes to a TCAS type screen and shows exactly where the traffic is, then reverts back to the nav page once the traffic is clear. Also, I keep a 796 on the control yoke. Because it's wifi from the 345 I get the same screen on the 796. Also you can get a much better weather picture plus metars, tafs, etc. Very cool.

Got to see it in action the first day out. A Challenger departing Marco Island, Fl turned right after departure as I was entering a right downwind. ATC called the traffic although we had already seen each other.  It was nice to watch the 345 do it's thing.

The only recommendation I would make to potential installers is to make sure the audio is adjusted up enough to hear the warnings. Once the engine is running and radio chatter is at it's peak it was hard for me to hear the traffic callout. A simple adjustment by the avionics shop fixed that.

I installed GTN 750 & GTX 330 ES in December 2015, and use Stratus for ADS-B in.  Two months later the Gatmin 345 was announced.  I asked for a quote to swap transponders to get weather on the 750.  $4500 to swap. It is not a slide in replacement

This is actually what I was quoted just yesterday to trade up from a 335. The 335 is worth about 2k box only. The 345 is over 6k. Installation is about 2-3 hours - insignificant. 4k delta is a big cost for audio traffic callouts. But then on Tuesday I had the same issue on downwind with a departing aircraft described above, only did not see the traffic until he was just below me. That got me thinking 4k for an upgrade might be a bargain.

Works great in my Mooney with a 430W and 345.  The 420 in my Cessna is non WAAS and I don’t think it will receive the info from the 345, which is why it has an Apareo ESG instead.

Plus the 345 gives you ADS-B in also on virtually whatever device you have in the panel or whatever portable device you carry. If the shop that does the install levels the airplane and does the config properly you'll also have AHRS on portable devices as well.

To begin with, I made the mistake of putting in just an ads-b out transponder (ironically I picked up the airplane the day that the GTX-345 was announced in early 2016 :(). Two years later I bit the bullet and found a used 345 and had the shop pull out the other one and install the 345. I haven't regretted it for a minute.

I actually went with the Diversity option on the 345.  I know it's not required yet, but Canada keeps moving that direction and hope to be making more trips up that way.  Figured it was easier to just put in the antenna and get everything done on the initial installation.

If I were doing it again I might do that. I heard about Canada's position after I installed the GTX 345. It makes sense for Canada because it saves the cost of ground stations and they have a lot of territory to cover. But, given that the US doesn't require it, I expect that they will make some accommodation for US registered aircraft.

I think Garmin did a good job on the traffic annunciations. It doesn't bother me with nuisance alerts but when it speaks up it's worth paying attention too.

Works fine with my GNS 430W,  Aspen PFD, and Bluetoothed to Foreflight on my iPad.

What about keeping the GTX 335 and adding the GDL 88?  You'd then have ADS-B Out on both frequencies and ADS-B traffic and weather on the GTN 750.  You could probably find a used one for less than the GTX 345.

I moved from the 330ES to the 335 before the 345 came out, and I'd do the same thing today.

Hi, I know this is an old post. But if I have a 530w do i need the 345 with GPS to get traffic?

The website compatibility list shows the GNS series.  Says it will display 8 targets and Regional NEXRAD, CONUS NEXRAD, METARs, TAFs.

No, I had a GTX 345 and a GNS 430W and they worked together fine. You need an unswitched audio input available on the audio panel for the GTX.

You would only need the 345 with GPS if your 530W was just a 530 (non-WAAS)
