carusoam Posted November 30, 2015 Report Posted November 30, 2015 Gary, the search box had been updated and works really well lately. you can also find things you wrote by clicking on your avatar. You'll find a bunch of cool things there. Best regards, -a-
numael_a Posted December 10, 2015 Report Posted December 10, 2015 Give me a call at (919)923-6815 if you are still interested. I run the Factory Training for Mooney out of Kerrville, and do CFI work on the weekends near my home in San Antonio. Most experience is in O3, Acclaim and J. Regards, Luis. 1
N5756v Posted December 10, 2015 Author Report Posted December 10, 2015 I found a guy thanks for the help
Pictreed Posted December 11, 2015 Report Posted December 11, 2015 I'm curious, being new to Mooneys, where you're at in your Mooney training? Which check ride are you finishing up? Im figuring you've found someone already but there is a good group of Mooney guys in North Fort Worth including Jerry Johnson who will be doing my transition training. I'm curious about all this because of the insurance. I got a quote from a company yesterday that will require 5 hours of dual and 5 hours of solo but I'm not sure how to accomplish the solo time if I'm not insured? I believe they also have a few selected transition guys they use too but Jerry is listed on the MAPA site for this area and I think he is acceptable for their requirements. Tim
carusoam Posted December 11, 2015 Report Posted December 11, 2015 Tim, Your insurance company will 'approve' your choice of flight instructor based on their experience / hours. The Solo time is to keep you from hurting other people until you get the next level of experience on your own. its a two step process. Any questions, be sure to ask your insurance company. Best regards, -a-
N5756v Posted December 11, 2015 Author Report Posted December 11, 2015 My insurance requires 15 dual but when I insured it I had zero hours and I was talking about my private ticket but I busted my check ride so now back to my instructor to do some polish work and try again next week maybe
Hank Posted December 11, 2015 Report Posted December 11, 2015 When I bought my Mooney right after my PPL checkride, some ins companies wanted 15-20 hours dual and 10 hours solo before carrying passengers. The one I went with required 15 hours from a Mooney instructor they approved, including 5 hours IMC training. Insurance went into effect prior to the first flight with the instructor. Then I went to the very next MAPA PPP and flew with Jerry Johnson. I figured I had learned to fly the plane, the PPP was to force me to fly it right. it was a good weekend, intense, and I learned a lot. Think I hit 100 hours total time enroute to Owensboro, KY, for the class, and the stinkin' tower cleared me for a straight in approach (my first one . . . Wheee!). training is good. Training from an excellent instructor, who makes you think and forces you to learn is a great thing. I had both. MAPA will ask you to add them as a rider on your insurance, which should be done for free. You may even get a discount afterwards. It counts as a Flight Review, FAA WINGS and if you're rated, as an IPC. It's a busy weekend. 1

Tim You bind the coverage and you are insured while accomplishing the 5 dual and 5 solo prior to carrying passengers. You would not be insured if you chose to not accomplish at least 5 hours dual and 5 hours solo prior to carrying pax
Pictreed Posted December 12, 2015 Report Posted December 12, 2015 Thanks Parker. That makes more sense. Wish they would explain that. I asked Falcon and still have not gotten a response which is not too comforting. My hour requirements are lower because I have IFR and complex already. Tim
