kevinw Posted June 30, 2015 Report Posted June 30, 2015 The most recent issue of Aviation Consumer magazine has the 430W as a best buy for a used GPS. The article reads that Garmin will support the 430/530 "well into the future". Just read this last weekend. Quote
rbridges Posted June 30, 2015 Report Posted June 30, 2015 My avionics shop (and Garmin dealer, whatever that might mean here) said that Garmin will no longer do any hardware work on these. Are you saying that this is not true? maybe he was referring to the base 430 without WAAS. I think you have to convert it over to WAAS if you send it in for repairs to Garmin but I may be relaying bad information. Quote

That support of non-WAAS units would be the first to go. Can they still be upgraded? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Quote

Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk I believe they do. They did mine 2-3 years ago. It was $3500 or so. I wouldn't get a 430 unless it already had the WAAS like the one in this thread. You could spend 50% of the asking price on a future upgrade. Quote
drapo Posted June 30, 2015 Report Posted June 30, 2015 Personal experience: the only way Garmin will work on GNS430 28v is that for +/- $3500 they will transform it into a GNS430W and then charge you a $1500 fee for repair. When all is said and done, around $6500 all included. Quote
Alan Fox Posted June 30, 2015 Report Posted June 30, 2015 You hit the nail on the head , If it needs a main board , and has not had the waas upgrade , you will have to upgrade..... Quote
LANCECASPER Posted July 31, 2015 Author Report Posted July 31, 2015 Bump - feel free to make a reasonable offer Quote
kmyfm20s Posted July 31, 2015 Report Posted July 31, 2015 I never thought air conditioning would be that important, but I agree, it's my favorite switch too. Today I will be taking off and its 108 outside! The air conditioning switch is by far my favorite for the next 2 months. Quote
joepilot Posted August 1, 2015 Report Posted August 1, 2015 Hi, Antenna included too? Any idea what the latest software update was? (I think they're on 3?) Just started shopping as my original King is nearly T.U. -joe Quote

kortopates Posted August 1, 2015 Report Posted August 1, 2015 Honestly, the current s/w version should be irrelevant. Given an authorized Garmin dealer installs it for you, most certainly they will update the firmware to Garmin's latest at no extra charge. Garmin doesn't charge the dealers for them and many shops due them as a courtesy. I have never paid for an update myself. I think the current version is 5 something. joepilot Posted August 3, 2015 Report Posted August 3, 2015 Ok thanks. Should be true about the software update at the dealer. But antenna not included? Lemme talk to my shop, then I'll hit you back with an offer. Quote

LANCECASPER Posted August 8, 2015 Author Report Posted August 8, 2015 Still available. If you still have a Non-Waas Garmin 430 make a good deal on this and sell your 430 - it will be a lot cheaper than having Garmin upgrade your 430 to WAAS. Quote
ryoder Posted August 8, 2015 Report Posted August 8, 2015 Its going to take more than that to keep your girlfriends fed, and enjoying their largess. It's not their fault, they have a thyroid problem... Quote
DaV8or Posted August 9, 2015 Report Posted August 9, 2015 Its going to take more than that to keep your girlfriends fed, and enjoying their largess. Should be OK as long as they each order 1-12. Quote
