M20JFlyer Posted March 8, 2015 Report Posted March 8, 2015 I believe there was a recent thread on "mooneyspace" TITLED experience with repair SHOPS For overhaul of King gyros and the 525 HSI. My Horizon gyro/AI is going south AND I Have plus 2,500 hours on both the AI and HSI. Was kind of hoping I would never need the Dynon back-up AI.. But was a good feeling to transition to an instrument vs partial panel when the AI began to act up. Am fixed in San Antonio but anticipate removing and shipping to shop with good forum referral Thanks in advance for your help. Caution Comment NOTE: the king KAP150 Autopilot controller did NOT shut down with quirky AI input. Thw first indication of problem was an altitude slip of 100 feet then 200 and I shut down AP .. then the dreaded slow gyro roll and subsequent killing of the KAP-150
Aerodon Posted March 8, 2015 Report Posted March 8, 2015 Try Bob Bramble of Aerolab. Always had good service from him. Don
Guest Posted March 8, 2015 Report Posted March 8, 2015 If you're facing overhaul of both the AI and the HSI now is the time for an Aspen. Clarence
Alan Fox Posted March 8, 2015 Report Posted March 8, 2015 Not sure if the aspen will emulate the KI258 without expensive adapter...
Marauder Posted March 8, 2015 Report Posted March 8, 2015 Not sure if the aspen will emulate the KI258 without expensive adapter... I don't think it will unless you buy the EA1000.
AndyFromCB Posted March 8, 2015 Report Posted March 8, 2015 You are going to be out of $5000 at best to overhaul both, out of $7500 if the remote gyro needs work as well. Yeah, Aspen sounds like a much better investment, especially from the point of view of having a marketable aircraft.
