Need a one piece windshield

My windshield has to go. It's a 65C and I want to get a normal one piece not a 201.

Who has the lowest price? Is it LP Aero?

Should I get the thickest there is because I want low cabin noise but don't want my mechanic to tell me it's another five hours labor to put a thick one in.

Which color should I get if I am not switching out the others? The others have some kind of slight tint to them but I can't put my finger on it. It could be an optical illusion but the side windows seem to look greenish blue.

Going to order this stuff today and hopefully drop the plane off to get tanks sealed and this scheduled.

LP Aero or Great Lakes Aero Plastics are two choices, both are fine. Remember that thicker is better considering that you will be removing the centre metal structure(not the steel tube)

Solar gray is a nice colour, but may clash with your side windows, unless you plan to replace them in time.

I used 1/4 solar grey all the way around.  The amount of tint is just right.  It helps in the daytime, but isn't dark enough cause problems at night.

Is the stock window tinted at all? I don't want to replace the other windows at this time and probably won't replace them for some time so which color should I get?

It is easier to tell if the light was shining on a white piece of paper instead of the black rubber anti-slip surface...

The color is more observable if you can get acces to the edge of the window...

If they are original, they are coke bottle green... Which is green but not neon or fluorescent green...

I don't know what color your glass is, but our planes could be twins!

The pilot window closer thing has a bit of a green tint. They are original but just dont have a whole lot of tint. If I buy only the windshield I will probably have to go with clear if I dont want green right? I am not a fan of blatantly green windows.

Marauder they do look a bit similar but you have a nicer one with more modern looks.

I changed my windshield to the smoke color. After I got it in, my wife informed me it didn't look right with the green side windows. I did not know they were green. I changed them to smoke also and now it looks great.

From experience...

I was changing out the door window...

Couldn't tell it was green...

Bought clear because it sounds like a good idea....

Installed window...

Wife baked like a cake in the copilot window.

Easy to swap for a matching green one...

Same experiment can be done at a lower cost with the pilot's vent window...

Take a look at the edges of the vent window and the pilot's side window.

Mine is green tint and it messes up pictures taken through it.    If I had to do it again I'd go clear.

I am beginning to think its green.  I'll go with green as long as its the same level of green as the original windows.  The other windows are in great shape and I don't want to be forced into an upgrade for no good reason.

 

Is the new windshield going to look very very green compared to the older windows that might have lost some green over the years?

The colors seem to be set at the sheet factory with some tight specifications...

When I replaced the door window it didn't appear to be different in color compared to the other ones...

Just clear with no scratches...

Surprising how they don't change over time...accept on the surface.

The Mooney goes under the knife next Monday for a reseal and I'll see about getting the windshield going concurrently. Going to order from LP Aero tomorrow!

If you can't tell the side windows are green then consider the smoke gray for front one.

Windshield color is the most important decision...

The other windows are easy to swap out if you were to change your mind...

The lighter tint of gray seems to be what new planes were using.

Texas, might go with the darker gray...

Whenever I have seen Mooney's with the green tint it's very obviously green and looking at you pics not so sure yours are as well. Just my 2 pennies worth I would go clear on the wind screen I like to have the "clearest view possible" you can always where shades or put down the visors which in my case are smoked.

So now I am worried and think I should just order clear. That way I can get tinted side windows later on and a clear windshield should look fine if I have light green side windows.

Go with the SC Gray, you will be glad you did. Clear just makes it too bright and hot. SC Gray is good in daylight and not too dark for night.

The SC Gray will also reduce sun damage to your interior. You will want to change the side windows out someday so you might as well start the process by doing the windshield in the correct tint now.
