Gear warning system

  1. 1. Do you have or want a landing gear warning system?

    • I have one that came with the plane.
    • I have one that I had installed.
    • I don't have one, but want one.
    • I don't have one, I do want one, but they are too expensive.
    • I don't have one, and don't want one.

I have an Aircraft Components Inc Gear Alert System in addition to the factory gear horn. It has sensors, a limit switch on the throttle and an altitude transducer that activates @ about 150' AGL. Unfortunately I still have not isolated whatever is interfering with the transducer and giving false alarms so I have to override that system.

Every landing, when I am on short final, I look and confirm gear and flaps  down.  This works in the Mooney, King Air, and jets. I've caught the flaps not full down a few times, but not the gear. I still check though.

And what N201ER says is dead on. Always put the gear down before adding ANY flaps. The flaps mask the drag caused by the landing gear.  If you always throw out the gear first, your chances of a scraping landing are greatly reduced.
