Florida Panhandle - Eglin

What is the preferred method of flying through the Florida panhandle, through the Eglin Terminal Area on east/west headings?

There is an FAAST course on flying in the area.  Do the course and it will answer many questions.  It is more important if you are landing in the area but if just flying through not as critical but do it anyway.

I transitioned that area on my flight from Tampa to Vegas and Eglin control was very helpful letting me transition the airspace both IFR and VFR. Have a back up that I'm sure you will get from members who fly in the area a lot but give them a call and ask for a transition.

I have flown thru the area several times VFR and IFR, I found it fairly simple. I always filed and ATC was easy to work with. I have landed in the area at Crestview also, and it was very straight forward. File or get flight following and it will be a non-issue. Ray

I have transitioned the area quite often IFR and VFR and occasionally have had ATC ask me to change altitude usually lower and once they routed me north past CEW.  Otherwise very helpful.

Coming from the east, enter at PHIPS and exit at VARRE.  Call Tyndall Approach (Jax Center late at night) on 120.82.

 

Coming from the west, enter at VARRE and exit at PHIPS.  Call Pensacola Approach on 119.0
