  1. Runaway trim??? That can end disastrously… We lost ‘snoopy’ an M20K, fortunately pilot and copilot are still with us… Snoopy lost its trim in a nose low situation… Lots of exhausting arm strength required to maintain control… Snoop lost the battle on the runway pavement… Scary situation… Also a good reason to have those color CB identifiers… Best regards, -a-
  2. G'day and thanks for the important info Victor! I've not had the opportunity to snoop the Avidyne Live site yet. Plan to do that soon. Yeah, I imagine it would be preferable for you if the frequency would at least default to an airport that starts with a "Y"! This sounds like a good oppo to wait for an update rather than risk it. The 10.2 software seems to work with no apparent problems, at least to this n00b.
  3. I love Peanut. I love Snoop Dog. I need a dog....
  4. Snoop Dog seems to tolerate the Mutt Muffs just fine. He’s pretty good at letting us know when he’s uncomfortable so I’m assuming they’re not too bad.
  5. I just purcahsed a Mooney and we are flying it down here next month. I wish I would have surfed these forums sooner so I could go snoop around :)
  6. Photoshop is the perfect tool for that… Even if it is free…. it may have a learning curve that may take a lot of effort… Snoop around the photoshop site… see if they have any low cost trials…. Adobe is the owner of photoshop…. There may be some really simple tools available on the App Store for swapping out colors on a given drawing…. Something I used to do a decade ago while removing imperfections from pics…. Best regards, -a-
  7. There are a few threads about finding O2 leaks around here… Search the word “snoop” for the really tough ones…. This is a leak detection fluid made by one of the O2 system manufacturers… Best regards, -a-
  8. Thanks for the tip on Snoop. Have a bottle ordered. Thanks for the other tips as well.
  9. Around MS… When it comes to O2 systems… We have seen anything that can leak… will leak. The most unique leak… was a sheet metal screw that penetrated one of the copper tubes delivering O2 to the cockpit… The most easy leak… mixing ferrules from one supplier with a different supplier… A leak detector liquid is called ‘snoop’…. Search for snoop… find all the prior MS experience… https://mooneyspace.com/search/?q=Snoop&quick=1 Best regards, -a-
  10. Around here we have seen everything from mismatched fittings to a sheet metal screw penetrating a piece of tubing... Search the word Snoop for other discussions looking for leaks... https://mooneyspace.com/search/?q=Snoop&quick=1 Best regards, -a-
  11. You say it only leaks down when the O2 is turned on. So the leak is somewhere in the distribution system down stream of the regulator. To leak down that fast it has to be a gross leak. perhaps one of your ports isn't closing. You can test them by turning on the oxygen and put your finger over the hole and see if any pressure builds under your finger. otherwise you will need to pull your interior to inspect all the tubes and fittings. For Leak checking Swagelok Snoop is the best stuff. https://www.swagelok.com/en/product/leak-detectors-lubricants-sealants/snoop-liquid-leak-detector
  12. I was working on a high pressure system once. It had beautiful Swagelok fittings. One was a pipe thread. I assembled it with no sealant and it leaked with 3000 PSI. I put it together with the specified two turns of mil spec Teflon tape. It didn't leak. I took it apart, cleaned all the tape off and cut a tiny little strip of tape, it barely covered one thread. I wrapped around so it barely overlapped, about 1.2 turns. It didn't leak with 3000 PSI (checking it with Snoop). The point is it takes very little Teflon tape to do its job. Most people put on WAY too much. MIL SPEC T-27730A
  13. Don’t put anything into the vacuum system of the wing leveler... Because it is connected to your vacuum instruments... anything going in will probably spread pretty well through the system... Smoke particles are tiny solid bits... that would be bad for bearings... There is a leak detection liquid used for the O2 system that at be helpful to use... search for Snoop... The idea of using mercaptans... is interesting... but once you get some in your nose... you have about a second to find the leak... if you miss it... your nose won’t recover for a day... or two... You may get to test your natural poison defense system too... Getting the odor out of the plane will most likely require removing all the tubing... PVC is pretty porous and can collect a lot of chemistry.... Why get creative for something that is supposed to keep the wings level in IMC? There has got to be a manual for this ancient system... And procedures that work... And drawings... Expect to be removing a lot of panels and inspecting the tape on each Servo device... Looking at each tube connection that is safety wired on a barb... Check and see if this on the list of PP maintenance... you may want to perform this with a mechanic near by... to check your work and log your changes... Opening this many panels makes doing this a good idea around annual time... Expect PVC tubing to stay flexible for about a decade... after two it’s starts drying out and getting rigid... at 50, fixing one problem will generally cause another one down the line... Buy some new tubing from Celia... just to use as a comparison to what you have in your plane... Chances are, you will want to replace the tubing and tape instead of spending time searching for the problem... Biggest challenges come from rips in the rubber diaphragms... The Brittain is a really cool system... keep it working... PP thoughts only... not a mechanic.. Best regards, -a-
  14. Dan just reminded me of the key word to look for when looking for an O2 leak... Snoop... https://mooneyspace.com/search/?q=Snoop&quick=1 Snoop is a bubble solution made for looking for leaks... Best regards, -a-
  15. The O2 system can wear, age, and get holes poked into it... Parts can get replaced with non-conforming bits and pieces... Compression fittings aren’t well known by everybody... I did a search on my favorite leak detector... Snoop.... https://mooneyspace.com/search/?q=Snoop&quick=1 This search just uncovers a few threads of similar Mooniacs with the same challenge... +1 regarding O2 in contact with oil or grease... it can really start a fire without an outside resource of energy... no spark required... Best regards, -a-
  16. Snoop is sold on Amazon. You can get a small squeeze bottle of it for $8. Back in the day, you could only get Snoop from a scientific supply house. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro
  17. Other MSers looking for leaks... using snoop... Best regards, -a-
  18. Search for swagelock snoop... it is a leak finding, bubble making solution.... If you have an O2 leak... this is how it gets found... Fixing the leak depends on what is not working... Best regards, -a-
  19. Exactly. In Georgia, when you register your plane with the FAA, it sends a notice to whatever state you register it in. If it's not registered in Georgia, no tax bill is generated. GA tax law is very specific that if you keep your plane in state, you must prepare a return and you owe the tax. However, as some of my Georgia acquaintances will verify.....the State of GA does not (usually) snoop around private hangars looking for airplanes, so some owners do avoid paying the tax. To me, it's cheating, but for some it's just being smart. Let your conscience be your guide.
  20. Oxygen leak detection... liquid snoop http://www.scottecatalog.com/equipspc.nsf/24c78b07bd0fb8cc8525696100417fc4/3b74fa0d8cb9ff3a8525686b00691378?OpenDocument The bits and pieces of the O2 system are pretty specific. In the event they are Compression fittings they need to come from the same supplier to work properly. Matching the curves and surfaces.... If they work like a Compression fitting, the parts being tightened together leave a dent in the other surface making re-tightening them not always possible. There are a few threads around here about O2 systems and where Mooney buys theirs from... the Scot catalog probably has all the proper parts. The MSC is probably an expensive way to get this done right. A maintenance manual probably has the details in it. PP thoughts only, I don't have an O2 system yet... Best regards, -a-
  21. Liquid snoop... http://www.scottecatalog.com/equipspc.nsf/24c78b07bd0fb8cc8525696100417fc4/3b74fa0d8cb9ff3a8525686b00691378?OpenDocument Sounded like something I could look up. I have no O2 experience, yet.... Best regards, -a-
  22. Dave, that is true, but I believe most of the engineers are pretty much new to Mooney, right? (I don't do Linked In so I can't snoop) If that is indeed the case, then why did they "need" Mooney to do such a project? I see no Mooney heritage aside from the shape of the tail, so why go to the trouble to buy the company and make a new product that has nothing in common with the legacy? I don't see any technology transfer here, nor recent cert experience under Part 23 with the old planes, so I'm left wondering what "old" Mooney brought to the table for the new Chinese owners. Let me state for the record I'm NOT opposed to such a development! I'm happy to see anything new, especially under the Mooney name. I'm just curious WHY it is unfolding this way. Perhaps this is phase one and the new owners have a 50 year plan (common for Communist leaders) and they need a trainer to grow their own pilot/customer base in China first, and then they can sell Ovations and Acclaims later?
  23. I figure it's about free as long as my wife doesn't snoop in the checkbook. Don't worry, be happy!
