i currently use Falcon, Did use AOPA until they really raised the rate when I asked for higher coverage after I added ADS-B. When I cancelled them they offered lower and I simply replied "too late, should have not increased it so much when I renewed". Bill

Independent IA recommendation around VA/NC
DrBill replied to par's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
I'd get a quotation from Carolina Avionics at Salisbury and Twin Lakes Avionics at Twin Lakes (Mocksville). Bill -
I got new Life insurance after I retired. Found that most "pilot" friendly policies are meant for commercial pilots, not private pilots so they tend to be expensive. I ended up with a great deal from Minnesota life for term ins. Still keep it renewed. Shop around. Bill

Who's Going to the Beaufort NC AOPA Fly In?
DrBill replied to GeorgePerry's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
room is taken and I may have a volunteer to bring the canopy. My son asked us to watch our grandson on Sat. so my wife said OK. Given showers on Sat it made the decision easy even if it costs me $90. Bill -

i just had to cancel due to family reasons.. I have a room at the CORE CREEK LODGE for Friday night that I will get nothing back if cancelled. Anyone want it ??? I'l cancel it on Thursday if I get no takers. (PM me if interested) I hope all enjoy it. Unfortunately the WX forcast is not good. Bill -
If you rent/lease your plane is subject to 100 hr inspections and other insurance requirements. I'd sell a percentage as a partner and let him pay the difference for insurance as well as expenses based on hrs flown. Thats how I had my partnership with my Sundowner although it was 50 % Bill

Anyone have any experience with Mooney Mart?
DrBill replied to Supercop0184's topic in General Mooney Talk
Find a good applicator... The two around here charge the same $250 for a corrosion X job (Greenville sc and Moore cy nc (pinehurst)) Bill -
I was with AOPA for years untill I wanted to up value due to add-ons. Then rate sky rocketed so I switched to Falcon. Much happier, When I told AOPA they offered lower rate I said "too late, you should think about loosing customers BEFORE you raise their rates" Obviously they don't care.

finally got them installed ! " Bill

Last year Jeff S and I ran the SSI tent.. This year I'll help at Beaufort. Am bringing my tent. Only staying Friday nite. Jolie and I have traded emails so I'm on the list.. Any others coming to Beaufort sign up for an hour or 2. It's a good rest. Bob B will be in Texas so can't make it. See Ya There, BILL -
They treated me great in 2011 with my bladder install.. The bulk of their business is turbine conversions for king airs. Once a King air lands there for the conversion it can't get out without it !! Bill

YES, Exactly what I have Biill -
Thats what I thought too.. Now that its all over. Even my examiner said I had a good instructor Bill as for book,, I used the book my local ground school uses (Jeppesen instrument/commercial book) plus I bought INSTRUMENT FLYING by RICHARD TAYLOR used on AMAZON. a super but old reference.. It is cheap enough I buy one for each instrument pilot I know and fly with at our airport. (there are not many of us). .

i got my license in 1970. Did not fly from 74-2002 (raised a family) . In 2002 got my biennial in 10 hrs of dual (2 weeks). In 2003 got my IR in 6 weeks. Still remember 1st IR lesson.. Was IFR and the instructor said "GREAT, now submit a flight plan to Florence (SC), then to Lumberton and back. "(I'm based near CLT). So I did, and off we went. Got to Florence and the controller says "30S, let me talk to the instructor.", I had marked the plan IFR Training flight in the remarks field, So he gets on and asks how can he help. She says she is training a new controller and would like to do a P A R approach. My guy says "FINE". So I say "what he HE** IS A P A R Approach"... He replies, "just do what she says". And I did. That was my first instrument approach. Talk about stuck in my memory bank... I'll never forget it. Now I stay current every 3 months. I spent hours listening to LIVEAtc.NET TO UNDERSTAND THE LINGO WHILE IN GROUND SCHOOL AT MY LOCAL AIRPORT. Bill I was flying N9230S a Beech Sundowner a partner and I bought 1 month earlier to fly around the Southeast. When the partner lost his medical we sold the Beech and I bought my 65 E.in 2011

My Stec 30 a/p mode switch went inop a few flights ago. A call to my avionics guy had this response "probably the universal, common problem, 2 hrs" So I took it to him and 2 hrs later it was fixed. The ends of the universal where the metal sleeves were pressed in, cracked allowing the sleeve to fall out. $55 for the part. I hope to replace the plastic ends with aluminum ones and keep as a spare. It will be fun making the tiny rivets to hold it to the block. BILL

not recommend owners mechanic doing prebuy or anyone else that has maintained a/c. Are you well versed in looking for signs of corrosion ? Probably the best thing to have someone else look for and to open/close all the panels(that in itself is at least 2 hrs). When I bought my E my mech opened it up and called me to check it out with him. Obviously ok since I bought it. Did sb209 too (inspect cage for corrosion, remove interior side panels) Then I had my mech turn it into an annual even tho it was only 6 mos into previous. Bill
