  2. look at my post in the vintage area, it has a picture of the sheared coupling. Bill
  3. Right, after the first 2 hrs (1 hr at 75%) and the 2nd at 65/75% alternating, We went for a short trip so I could do a couple to get current. I normally do 3 every 3 mos. so I've got 1 more to do. We spent 2 hrs over my airport at 4700 ft watching all kinds of commercial traffic go by high and low with flight following. And getting ads b warnings. It was fun doing them at no less than 50% .. Makes for a quick trip. Bill
  4. As I posted earlier, my pump failed c30mins into a 2.6hr engine breakin flight. I too have stanrdby vacuuum but elected not to use it since it was severe clear I continued and actually flew a pair of approaches before returning to home airport. The drive failed (pics in my post). New pump going in tomorrow. Bill
  5. Awesome, I figure one quart burned in 2.6 hrs so well below acceptable for that flight.. Will keep using mineral oil for 4-5 more hours. 75% 155 kts avg groundspeed at 4750 ft. No lean so fuel burn was over 12 gph!! Bill
  6. NO, it will be a while the ad is on Barnstormers or Controller, search for Wilgrove. I'll continue to use Mark for a while, his attention to detail is really good. Bill
  7. if you lose the ball I have more (from McMaster Carr)!! Bill
  8. Thats how we got it off !! Bill
  9. The 182 is the minivan and the Mooney is the Dodge Hellcat !!
  10. Awesome,, will order wrench with pump !! Similar to my old distributor wrench !!.. Priceless. Right on the teflon tape.. that was there when i got the plane. Bill
  11. That happens to me a lot when I'm out of radar range from CLT and the a/c does not have ADS-B. Just last week I was at AFP (abt 35mi E of CLT) and another plane was practicing landing. We only saw him visually. Bill
  12. Did a 2.6 hr breakin flight a week ago and 30 mins in the vacuum pump went. So today the A&P and I take it out. Yep drive broke.. he opened up the vanes and they are AOK. Will order a new one tonite. Any tips on getting the lower left nut on ? Was a bear to get off. Bill
  13. That TBM breakup South of Orlando in '14 was using XM on an IPAD to navigate Tstorms. Family of 5 lost due to mid air breakup while flying IFR. Tragic. Stormscope and radar are the only real time on board WX for tactical use, Bill
  14. Finally got my 2 hour engine breakin flight on Sunday. My instructor and I took off at 250pm. Climbed to 4500, smooth as silk. (class B floor is 5000), called CLT approach, got a squawk and proceeded to do a racetrack around our airport with 5 mi straight legs. It was COLD. 20 deg and heat was minimal (fix #2), After a few mins the controller asked us to stay between 4750 and 5000 for traffic. Shortly there after he reported a Citation going by 1000 ft lower, opposite direction, never saw it. About 15 mins later we get a traffic alert on my GPS screen: TRAFFIC, 300 ft low, 2 oclock. We look , and there it is, a Dash 8 out of CLT for points E- NE. Goes by about 500 ft low as I approach 5000. The investment in ADS-B was worth it. We flew 2.6 total. 1.0 around the airport, then off to a remote airport (30MI EAST) for a couple of approaches. They were fun at no less than 50 percent power. Went FasT. stopped there for some gas then headed back. Found a bad cam lobe at annual in November, Had a major done by Triad Aviation as well as prop O/H, and all new hoses. Vacuum pump quit after 40 mins (fix #1) and a CHT and EGT sensor were not indicating. (3, 4, respectively) and the STEC 30 A/P mode switch would not work (too cold perhaps). Anyway, back in the air and next flight when these few things are fixed. LOVE that GDL88 traffic tho. Dr. Bill
  15. not for me 399 to rent 799 for download. must be a special for you. Bill
  16. After 43 years of marriage, my wife FINALLY went for a ride. a HIGH SPEED TAXI DOWN THE RUNWAY and BACK. then the plane went in for annual and has not been up since (needed major on engine and now weather is not cooperating now that its done). I don't ever expect her to be in it during a takeoff. Good luck to anyone trying to do the gear from the right seat... YOU try it sometime on jacks !! Bill
  17. YES Triad did OH to engine and Prop. Needed new governor (no surprise) and put all new hoses and O/H of oil cooler. Triad had everything done right. Case inspected, rods checked, new cylinders and pistons, new cam, new fuel injection system, new oil pump. Started right up on initial start, now waiting for ground to dry in front of hangar so I don't get stuck in mud. 2 hr breakin flight next. not cheap but now I have better than new engine (NO ADs on my 50 yr old crank !!!). Bill
  18. Im just coming out of the shop after a major OH. found bad cam and lifter at annual. was using A/S W100, going to keep same and add Camguard. I feel problem was started before I bought plane in 2011 with few hrs flown in 2010-2011 (<10). Never a perf problem just showed up in filter at annual in Nov. although I only flew 40 hrs in last year. Looking forward to 1st flight. Bill
  19. I had same issue after an annual.. Mechanic left the starting mag points TOO CLOSE. We (he and I) reset the points and timing and problem went away. Bill
  20. As part of a major on my engine, a new gov was needed. The prop shop recommended the PCU5000 and I went with it. First flight after major is next week. The old gov was worn out I'm told. I'm anxious to see how it works. Bill
  21. Back in the 70s I worked at a gas station while working at an airport and learning to fly. We had a similar commercial thing for the old cardboard sided oil cans. We would get about a quart a week from all the changes we did in the shop. Bill
  22. I registered for my RC aircraft. AOK in mode C.. 400 ft limit.
  23. looks to me like a Belanca
