  1. did you drill the 3/4 hole then split the block or split the block, clamp and drill ? Bill
  2. At home I have and old Chinese drill press and a 1/2 in cap jewelers lathe my dad made. Works good for small parts +- .005. With the shop, I have to go when there are no classes and it's 30 min drive each way and no working alone.(a rule I made when I was shop mgr !!) Bill
  3. Since I retired from UNC Charlotte engineering dept, I have access to their nice Mechanical Engineering machine shop. 4 JET Lathes and 8 JET full size milling machines. My dad was a tool maker and taught me how to use them and I still have all his tools and Gerstner box. Bill I made these baggage door latches from the same 1 in stock.
  4. My 65E center post is 3/4 in too. I just got a pair of Rosens given to me and Im going to make the attached aluminum block to mount them. basically a 1 in sq al block split to clamp on the post with tapped holes for the rosen mount. They are from a piper cherokee 140. owner wanted to go back stock so I made him a pair of stock ones. Bill moonwymount.xps
  5. next is Saturday at 1pm edt or sunday at 6pm on SMITH.. I went to Alaska 3 yrs ago, Anchorage, Denalli, rented a car and drove a lot. Now when I watch Alaska state Troopers I see many towns I've been thru... Palmer, Willow, the rail/road tunnel, etc.. Same for Alaska Big fix. Bill

  7. Steve and I met today bet the ceiling was like 300 so could not even take him around the patch. We will do it again sometime soon. But he did get a good feel of the pilot seat position. Bill

  9. What weather tool do you use for 48 hrs ahead ? TAFs are good for 24hrs. I'm using weather.com and yahoo weather but not ideal. Bill

  11. I too suspect a bad connection somewhere. Do not forget to check ground connections too !! To eliminate battery. Put voltmeter directly on battery and have assistant push key in.. If voltage on battery drops below 10 it is bad. I suspect it will stay up and you lose V on the buss due to a bad connection. Bill

  17. I have a GNS430W (waas) so I added the GDL-88 for 5k installed. I love it. A friend added a self contained unit to his piper(no gps) for $3000 installed. (NAVWORKS). He is very happy.
  18. I had one installed for a few months tied to the motor mount behind 4. The drain went to an empty waterbottle. I got nothing in the bottle in 10 hours so we took it out and put the stock vent hose back. Bill

  20. my shop went up from 1200->1400. basic hourly rate increase. I'll stick with him. Bill
  21. I use a Clorox bottle with about 1 oz left in it. I have a couple 1/2 gallon ones in the plane and when used just dump the whole thing in the fbo trash dumpster or barrel. Bill
  22. make sure mixture is at cutoff when parked... Mine did that Tues and Mech noticed it. came from manifold... Cutoff mixture and it stopped. Bill
  23. Mechanic did the work and I was too busy to check... BTW.. TC signals are in MICROVOLTS !! Thats how I caught it.. I read the GEM install guide.. For once I read the instructions !!! Bill
  24. Followup on CHT/EGT errors... EGT was broken wire, CHT was due to sensor wires bundled with ignition. Fixed and tested-AOK. A/P mode switch has broken universal in the T&B indicator. common problem I'm told.. Taking to be fixed next Tues.. Part is in stock and 2 hr labor Bill
  25. REPLACED PUMP yesterday and was a snap using new WRENCH !! Thanks for the tip..\ flew and all was well. All EGT And CHT sensors now working were bundled with ignition wires, I separated and all is good. Had a good time. Bill
