  1. eman and I are scheduled to go. Hopefully the mech fuel pump will be put in early next week. Bill
  2. Thank you ! I'll probably take you up on it once sale goes thru. Currently 3 tire kickers!
  3. I'm 20 hrs after major OH and the mech pressure went to 30+. Has to be bad mech pump so I got another under warranty but not changed yet. Elec pressure is ok <25 w/o engine running so gauge is ok. Pump failure mode is lever binds on shaft causing diaphragm to pump both directions with lever not just down as designed. I'll post when I's fixed. Bill
  4. Have to sell my beloved Mooney due to Medical reasons. $75K with hangar, golf cart. 3150TT 20 SMOH 20 SPOH airplane alone asking $68K Annual to be done in March. www.creativecomputersolutions.com/N5612Q/MOONEY.pdf 1965 Mooney M20E AD.pdf
  5. The main problem is the engine runs like crap with the high pressure and is difficult to stop ! Mag drop went from 25 before to 110 after pressure change. So I'm looking forward to the lower pressure to get back in the air. Bill
  6. I just read that thread and agree that he's got an electric pump for an injected engine. Bill
  7. Glen, Looks like you have an electric pump for an injected engine. Probably the wrong P/N.. My "E" has pressure c25 on prime and then mechanical should be 15-25 but currently running 50 so I'm replacing the mechanical.. Electric is OK at 25. Bill
  8. i ran one tank out in my E on purpose during my IFR pre checkride. Stunned the cfi, but I switched tanks and engine resumed speed in less than 20 secs. He had a lot of confidence in me after that. That's when I created my dip stick. Bill
  9. engine builder (triad aviation) giving me new pump under warranty. and will help with R&R labor ! YEA! big job to pull pump, will do another day. Bill BTW the fuel pressure on mech pump is governed by return spring under diaphragm.
  10. The dash fuel pressure gauge shows 50 with mechanical pump (engine running) and properly at 30 with electric pump only (engine off). So tomorrow my A&P and I will try to pull the pump. All new fuel system since had full Overhaul in Jan-Feb. pump is under warranty from engine builder. Was ok on 7/18. and high yesterday, I understand it is a common mode of failure when the mech pump fails. Thanks for all the responses. Bill
  11. Went to go fly today and my mech fuel pressure is 50psi. Was aok on 7/18. This obviously causes rich running and it quits at idle. Any ideas ? This engine had major in Jan and now has less than 20 hrs on it with the fuel system overhauled at same time. Bill
  12. many times its torn when they try to remove cowl w/o removing it first ! Bill
  13. ours went up .70/gal on 7/1. now 4.50. 4.40 if you are a "resident". 8A6 Bill
  14. mine went up from 840 to 872 for 60k. but i'm increasing the coverage to 70k since I just got a major OH. for 70k it is 947. through Falcon. Bill
  15. ok.. i'll plan for the saturday.
  16. EMAN, pick a day and we'll go in Sept. Bill
  17. if when you open it, measure the pot and R3 and R4 (if you have the two channel version) and I'll update the drawing for next time. Bill
  18. i was planning to go but my copilot backed out. hopefully next time. Bill
  19. lets see, its a 5A fuse, so with a power transistor and Beta of 10 means base current = 0.5A at full on. need 0.7 v on base at 0.5A so need to drop 12.9v at 0.5 a = 6.5 watts so a 10 watt pot would do. low end resistance = 12.9 / 0.5 = 25.8 ohms. High end should be about 10x that for full control or 250-300 ohms. I'd look for a 300 ohm , 10 watt pot in the size you need. I think that may be a challenge, 10 watts is pretty high for a pot like that. will not fit in package, have to see what is there.. must be 5 w or less. Bill here's a 5w 500 ohm pot for 5.34 http://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/cts-electrocomponents/026TB32R501B1A1/CT2156-ND/203777
  20. Here's the circuit I got from one member. Measure one of them end to end. Then get it from Digikey or Mouser. If you need help computing the power, let me know. Bill
  21. My E is like your R. 10 gal starts to be measurable. And I've got the 27gal bladders on each side. Bill
  22. I've been there, a nice feed. 45 min flight in the Mooney or 1hr10 in my buddies Cherokee 140. Bill
  23. I've taken off with 100 ft ceiling and 500 ft visibility. Climb to 2000 ft and am in severe clear. I set the a/p to the initial heading from atc clearance, and activate it as soon as gear up and sufficient altitude (c400 ft agl). Then I just manage throttle and prop. Bill
  24. I made mine with a scrap piece of 1x1 and a piece of 1/4 in tygon (clear) tubing. Wired the tube to the stick. Marked stick w/sharpie. Hold thumb over end of tubing, insert in tank. remove/replace thumb allowing fuel in tube. Remove from tank and read level. Found that using stick by itself was hard to read 2nd tank since fuel did not yet dry. Will take pic tomorrow when I go to airport. Bill Note, I used one dowel and the 1/2x 1/2 stick. I like the stick better, easier to read.
