  2. VERY NIICE... Welcome to the club... Bill
  3. Insurance required 10hr dual w/instructor with over 100 hrs of Mooney time and 10 hr of solo. I received a lot of advice from a friend who has a 20C. I really began to feel comfortable and ahead of the airplane 1/2 thru the solo. Before that I was basically following checklists and advice. My on field mechanics were highly experienced owning their own business and had significant Mooney knowledge. The first one left after working on it for 2 years to take over the family farm in TN (he still does some annuals but too far for me). The second stayed 2 years and left (went home to TX) to a higher paying contract job (he had trouble marketing and keeping busy during the slow time). The third is still there. Bill
  4. Have a newly overhauled DUKES pump by AEROMOTORS now rated for continuous duty !! Looks like new. PM if interested ! Bill
  5. The only question I missed was HOW WIDE IS AN AIRWAY ? 4nm each side of centerline . Never forgot it after that day , August 24, 1970 !!! 45 years in 2 weeks !! BILL
  6. AOPA Had one of the first, then switched, then switched again, and then again for how many times, now one more time. I used the first one then went to FLTPLAN.com and never went back. I would not be surprised they are doing it for some sort of kickback. Nothing else justifies the switching of sw to sw. Bill
  7. Nice pics.. thanks for sharing, we'll be looking for more. Bill
  8. If yours are like lamonts, let me know, I have several of them and I'll send you one. Chicken-head... I like that.. matches the knob alright. BILL
  9. When I bought mine, I negotiated a price with a pre-purchase inspection, seller pays all airworthy items or can cancel the sale.(like anthony, plane had 6 mos left on annual). I felt I got a great deal so after the PPI, I paid for the plane and told the mechanic to continue as an annual.I drove the seller and his wife home. A few days later I got the plane back with a clean annual for $600 more than the PPI. Worked for me. Bill
  10. Don't forget to LUBE the cable before re-inserting into sheath ! If you lose the ball, let me know, I bought 100 when I lost mine from McMaster-Carr. Bill
  11. I was born in Poughkeepsie NY, it was considered upstate through when I left in 79. Now it's a bedroom community for NYC workers who have a 2 hr train ride or 1.5 hr drive to Manhattan. The guy who bought my house commutes to Brooklyn every day !! (YUK). Was a nice place to grow up and had some great trout fishing streams nearby. Bill
  12. I too vote for KFFA- First Flight Field... and Saint Augustine. decent fuel price and nice restaurant right on the field. Bill
  13. I learned to fly at Kobelt in the 70s. My mom and Dad would come over Fri or Sat nights for dinner at the CAVU (same place now new name). since I was lineboy at the airport from 10 -10 Weekends and 6-10 weekdays. I've heard from my friends in the Beech Aero Club that it is a great place to eat. Bill
  14. CAVU restaurant at Kobelt Airport (just NW of Newburg NY). on the field. Nu-Cavu Restaurant and Lounge, located on the airport. Offering indoor and outdoor dining. 845.895.9000 Bill
  15. I'm staying at Seahaven for I think 5 nights.. The wife and her friend are coming to vacation while I Mooney. They really like the pics on the Seahaven website. I'm riding with a Mooney pilot from MD right now. Women fly commercially to Tallahassee. Bill
  16. St Pierre... was his last name.. He worked primarily for IBM as a contractor. Thats how he came to NY. He flew B17's in WW2. Bill
  17. I carry two MAGLITE flashlights.. One dual AA with red lens and one dual C with white lens.. Never had a failure turning on. The hard part is checking the batteries yearly for age as they never really die. Bill
  18. You should have increased the value with the new radio if it did indeed increase the value of the plane.. I did just that with my bladders and now ads-b. If it gets totaled, I get a fair price for it. Had to provide receipts but that was the easy part. Thanks for posting.. I'll continue to be vigilant on checking the bar. Bill
  19. N45 Kobelt Airport, Walkill NY 1970. Worked there nights and weekends as a lineboy. Loved it. No airspace class then.. Just the NY TCA. Instructor was Ed St Pierre (now disceased). You guys from PRINCETON .. did you know of Ed there ? He lived nearby and taught there too.. Took me home several times for an overnight lesson. BILL
  20. My requirement was 10 hr dual and 10 solo with an instructor with 100 hrs of Mooney time. I found one at our local airport and soon had my 10 hrs done (4 flights). Then for my 10 hr solo I went to 10 different airports that I had not been to before and that was a great challange and experience. (4 more flights). BILL
  21. Does NAV WORX have an OSHKOSH SPECIAL ? Nothing on their website. BILL
  22. I've used FLTPLAN.COM since 2003 and continue to do so. I find it easy to use and the up time is great. BILL
  23. Last weekend I did a PNP flight with EMAN and we picked up the dog at Greenville(SC) Downtown. Great restaurant on the field, 10 % off to pilots and passengers. I had a super chicken salad and eman had a large burger. Highly recommended. (each was about $10 with drinks) Met another mooney pilot there too !. LAHSO...We parked side by side. Bill
  24. A friend at my airport is hoping for a NAVWORX SPECIAL.. I'm looking for him. BILL
  25. Mine had a fuse holder under the panel in series with the 12V wire. In my case it just needed to be cleaned, the fuse was good. BILL
