  1. Damn. The fastest ground speed I've had is just a tad over 300kts.
  2. Keep in mind you can finance for < 4.5% over 20 years. That’s likely why planes have gone up in price, along with the inflation that hasn’t rippled into consumer goods yet (and using the bank’s money right now is a very good idea because of this). Financing $80k of a $100k airplane would leave you with around $500/mo payment. You can also possibly work terms in to finance upgrades as well. With aircraft ownership it is generally a good idea to start off with enough cash reserves to cover something bad happening, like a major engine repair. After 1,000 hours, you will likely have spent more on fuel and maintenance than you paid for the airplane. Don’t be swayed by a few thousand dollars at the buy-in price as it’s almost always more expensive to add to your airplane than it is to get one that someone else has already put money into.
  3. @Austintatious @RocketAviator @aviatoreb @Gatlin Gun @PJClark @Cody Stallings @Yooper Rocketman @SpamPilot hopefully I haven’t forgotten anyone. I included Yooper Rocketman and AviatorEB for their expertise as well. My IA went to install the mag on my Rocket and after the difficult running of the wire to the tail, discovered that the mag would not fit to replace the left mag, even with adjusting the drive gear. The fuel flow transducer combined with the wire studs limited the movement making it impossible to time on the left side. Getting a new harness and we will install it on the right. I’m not sure if all rockets (or m20k’s for that matter @gsxrpilot ?) are configured this way, but it is worth noting. If there’s something we’re missing, let us know, but I suspect this might be a potential issue for other rocket owners as well.
  4. I have a slick start on my M20F. It works great. I suppose the surefly mags work as well or better and I would upgrade to that if I needed to. You should not be struggling with cold starts. Something is wrong. Shower of sparks or something else is not working correctly.
  5. I did mine in a month with a 22yo CFII I identified. He’s now teaching fighter pilots. IFR is about being aware your senses can lie to you (as opposed to unusual attitudes where your senses are uncompromised) and doing enough approaches to be able to brief one while distracted. edit to add: you can do a lot for your proficiency without an instructor by practicing tuning VORs and redundantly doing radio navigation while you’re doing VFR flight.
  6. We’ve done this and it lasts a while. It just seems odd that this one seal does it and none of my other planes have this issue.
  7. Ever since I got my rocket the baggage door seal has stuck badly to where occasionally we have to reattach the seal. Is it the rubber in the seal that’s failed and is causing this?
  8. I called up Mark at Tropic AirPower and he took care of me, also got me a good deal on fine wires.
  9. Also verify it isn’t any of the wires on the back of the alternator/regulator. Those tend to break at the connector when they get old.
  10. If that’s the case, then why all the inconvenience of the TFRs to begin with?
  11. There’s an incident reported of someone who had a small flashlight fall down the hole under their Johnson bad (missing boot) and caused the ailerons to jam.
  12. The F is a nicer flying airplane in smooth air.
  13. You know you can step up 12V to 24V and a battery should be able to provide the current you need without converting the entire electrical system. What type of AC?
  14. Is it possible someone left the screen out of the fuel servo (Not sure if it can be reassembled without it)? Nothing should be getting through that. If the screen is there, I’d be looking for the source of contaminants between the servo and the injector. It looks like this and is where the hose connects on the port side of the fuel servo. to add: take a peak inside your tanks and make sure the fuel pickups still have their finger-shaped screens on them too. You can see them by looking inside the filler cap.
  15. This is worth reading. https://www.redskyventures.org/doc/cessna-misc/Continental_Tips_on_Engine_Care.pdf
  16. Portable O2 system with Mountain High O2D2. You’ll be amazed how much better you feel when you land. After 1100 hours of M20F time when I bought my rocket and started being on the bottle for long high altitude flights, as required, I noticed that I wasn’t fatigued like I would be after a long flight in the M20F.
  17. Check probe location as well. Might just be the jug that has the required factory CHT probe on it and is in a different location than the other probes, or it could be a connection issue somewhere.
  18. Where are you located? There’s a shop in Florida that fixed mine on my m20f’s previous engine after numerous other shops failed.
