  1. It was wide deck case.
  2. Martin, I was told the case was not repairable and I went with Lycoming factory rebuilt engine. BTW, I was told this is a typical weak spot for the old Lycoming cases. My engine was original to the plane and built in 1966. New engine has an reinforced case in that area by the Cylinder 2.
  3. Is that good, or...
  4. Interesting failure. I am not sure what exactly are you looking for but chances of finding drawing of THAT part are virtually zero. As for possible repair, I would start with AC43.13 (Acceptable Methods, Techniques, and Practices - Aircraft Inspection and Repair). good luck.
  5. True. I should read post more carefully
  6. Are they? I have an F but I believe MTOW of M20C is around 2550lb (I'm sure I'll get corrected)... What is the Empty weight of long bodies? Then you add a pilot and some fuel and I bet it's over that.
  7. Good question that I couldn't find good answer in a past. I would think concern is there's a no approved OEM manufactured or FAA process. Many claim, as an example, FAA and manufactures do not approve chrome plating of the propeller spinner as it can alter metallurgy of the aluminum; those are always polished or painted. Funny, the shafts on my (and OP's) plane are chrome plated and so is the retractable step on my F. But, I'm certain couple of IAs I worked with in a past would frown if I wanted to use "non-approved" finish on my plan's control system. I'd be certainly interested to hear other opinions; I'm sure those would vary like we saw it in the past.
  8. I think some A&P/IA might object legality of the ceramic coating on on a certified plane... I'd like to hear form others about thins.
  9. Wow, your friend did a great job of landing his plane. I'm sure all of us would love to hear more about it and also about moving the plane to the shop by helicopter, once its done. There was a MS member having similar experience and posted video, about 1y or 2 ago.
  10. I did it as a part of a check out in my Mooney. it's surprising how tight you can turn if done it properly.
  11. Ouch!$ Sad to hear about your and Byron's experience. When I got a quite from them for the OH of my IO360 I thought it's too good to be true. Discussing with my IA, a lot of things were not included and by adding them, price came up close to other shop. Big thing for us was they wouldn't run the engine on a test stand before shipping to back to WA. Eventually I went with Lycoming rebuilt engine. it was $$ but worth it. Edit: I just looked it up and the price of a rebuilt went up $10k since January 2021! Crazy!!!
  12. Years ago I restored the raised lettering on King radios with Silver sharpie. It is still looking great. Models paint and fine brush would do as well.
  13. For vintage Mooney owners looking for a new style (M20J & newer) Control Wheels with shafts. I have a set of white Control Wheels with shafts that was planning to install on my M20F. I am still thinking however my plane has a PC wing leveler with autopilot that needs a vacuum switch on a Wheel (like original wheel has) or possibly panel (which I don't like). Solution is to fine Mooney electrical solenoid for vacuum line like on mid 70's Mooney but I didn't succeed so far. To my understanding, these control wheels have correct shafts to install them on vintage Mooney and for sure would fit my 67 M20F as I checked few times. with later style shafts you would need to by later style Yoke (not to be confused by control wheel) that is connecting pilot and copilot shafts. They came from M20C but not sure what year. You would need to make sure they fit your plane and there are couple of good posts on MS describing that. Please see the picture included in message and if interested I could provide you few more showing details, especially the angle of the end shaft attachment to the Yoke. There's no damage on wheels or shafts. I would like $2000 plus shipping for the set payed by Paypal Friends and family. I am located in Seattle, WA so if interested, I would need your location to estimate the cost of shipping but I estimate $25-40 as these are fairly light. Best regards, Igor
  14. I am selling two Voltage regulators for Generator. I have two, that I don't need. First one is, I believe original of the plane and was removed in January last year for engine installation and Alternator upgrade. It was working great for 16y I owned a plane. Voltage was adjusted years ago and never really changed over years from 14.2-3 VDC. It doesn't look nice but working great and I would sell it for $50 plus shipping The other is my spare unit, looking great and I never used it. It was removed from Bonanza, but it's the same type and direct replacement (by TC) for my M20F. it is Elecrodelta. I carried it as a spare for 15y which, seems, made sure original never died. I would ask $75 plus shipping (I'm in Seattle, btw). Please let me know by private message if you are interested. Best regards, Igor
  15. LASAR website is saying those are sold out, however you can call them and put your name on the waiting list. Not sure what is the wait time, though...
  16. I believe you do need a eddy current inspection as your S/n does not have a suffix "B". You should be able to find an Ad online and more details in it.
  17. I wouldn't know about Insight G4 but I have installed Surefly and already had EI CGR30 engine monitor. CGR RPM signal would come from Magneto P-leads but for Surefly, it needed inline resistor. I am not sure about the value but it was available online, from EI or Surefly... I didn't need Tach 2 board and was not aware of it at all. Good luck
  18. I don't have a K Service manual but you need to remove the first panel outboard of fuel tank Rib (just outboard of Fuel cap). SM pictures would help...
  19. I removed the switch and installed the kit a year ago during the wait for engine OH and I can tell you it's not as easy as sounds. Wires were short on my '67F and I am not sure if I could do it without removing the Pilot's side panel or instruments in the vicinity. I was installing G5 and had a new panel made so that was done anyway but I can't see being able to unscrew all the wire terminals at the back. Going under the panel would possibly allow cutting some harness ties and make wires longer but removing instrument panel was a way for me to go. YMMV. Good luck.
  20. Great! This is exactly my experience; after over 2.5h of flying above the airport, engine used less then quart of oil. It stopped burning any significant oil after 3rd -4th flight. Good luck.
  21. Yerington, NV in 2007. After all these years i still get a compliments on it. They did a great job.
  22. I am sorry to hear that as they were considered a top notch shop when I was looking a place to paint my plane. That was 15y ago, so things change. I hope you'll be happy with final product, albeit not with their service. Good luck.
