  1. I was talking to the factory a few years ago about new ailerons, Hail damage. They told me, if the factory does the repairs, they don't have to log it at all. Could the repairs have been done at the factory. My plane, a previous owner thru a rod and had an off airport landing. I found this by accident on the internet. The only entries in the log book, were the repalcement of the engine. The log books do not say why the engine was changed. Ron
  2. Raymond I e-mailed my A&P the AD note and the Service Bullitin for his info. I am sure that they have access to all of these also. We discussed the possibility of this last weekend. First chance that I get, I will pull the inspection plates, have him stop by, Inspect and I will reinstall the inspection plates. I prefer not to pay $75.00 an hour to operate a screwdriver or cordless drill. I will lubricate any joints again while I am in there and then reinstall the inspection plates. My annual was just completed Feb. 1st. We both know that the Huck bolts get inspected every annual, and I already inspected the spacer for my own piece of mind several weeks ago. If you can, try to be very active in your maintenance, it saves money and can heilp if you have a problem away from home. Ron
  3. What is the ball doing? At low altitude and high power settings, I have to push left rudder to get straight and level flight. My plane is rigged so that it is completely hands off at altitude. Ron with a 69F
  4. As I said a lot. I do remember thinking last annual, will I ever get it down, but never thought that it was 160 cranks. Ron
  5. In my 69F, I have not counted the turns required. It is a lot. I sugggest that you have the plane put on jacks and practice. It is recomended not to practice this in the air. Enjoy, they are a great plane. Ron
  6. I have been flying for 40 years ago without a turbo. My current ride is an F. I would love to have a turbo normalized Mooney, with a 2nd throttle set up. I think that this would be the best of both worlds. Ron
  7. Sounds like Fun, I am plannong on going also. Ron
  8. I have heard good things about Advaned Aircraft. I beleive that Mitch had his tanks repaired there and Jolie's a complete strip and seal. Who painted your plane? Thanks Ron
  9. Fuel prices going up. Remember a Cherokee 180 and others, burn the same fuel and travel less distance. this makes my Mooney look better and batter. Ron
  10. mooneydrmr I am in Fresno a lot. Give me a call, let's get together. 559 577-2398 Ron
  11. If it is a wood wing, it won't be a 63. Find a very experienced wood wing mechanic to do a prebuy on it. If you have not joined MAPA, do so. Ask on the MAPA list for experienced wood wing mechanics. I belive that there is a chat group for the wood wings. I am not a member of that group. Is this wood wing based at Fresno Chandler FCH? I am based at Mariposa, MPI. Welcome to Monney's. If I can help in any way, let me know. N9154V@aol.com or 559 577-2398 Ron
  12. I was exposed early, at 14 Dad learned to fly and bought a C Model. At 17 I got my private, was working at Mc Donalds, $1.60 per hour. Flew off and on for years, wives, kids etc. Multi at 31, fortuanately Dad could afford to support the planes, I helped with maintenance and gas. Bought my Mooney at 52, IFR at 54 and loving it all the time, currently 57 Ron
  13. In 69 Mooney changed the panel to a 6 pack arrangement, elec gear and flaps and the quadrant. If you would like, you can look in my photo's for current panel layout. I prefer the quadrant set up, my self. It is very similar to the twins that I flew before. Ron N9154V
  14. There is 1 at the airport that I fly out of. It has a red parachute. I was surprised by how quick that I caught it, and the fact that I could not see it from very far off. Ron at KMPI
  15. In my 69F I use it at altitude, above 5000. I get a full inch out of it. Ron
  16. On my 69F, I felt this a lot when I had the 20:1 gears. When Top Gun replaced my gears with 40:1 gears, I feel it much less. Mark told me that this is normal. Ron
  17. I sump at the first flight of the day, and 10 minutes after fuel is put in. I put in new O-rings every year. I have found water in 1 tank only after the plane was sitting in a hanger a couple of times. We readjusted the cap a little tighter and this problem stopped. Our fuel caps are used on many types of planes. Maintain them and you should be OK. I have found lots of water in Cessna and Piper tanks also. I suspect maintenance is a lot of the problem. I try not to leave my plane outside. In October, the plane was outside for a large rain storm, I did not have any water in the tanks. If you have your tanks resealed, there are drain holes in the ribs that must be left open so that the water and fuel can crain thru. If these are sealed, water could collect behind these and then when you are flying the water could move to your sumps. Ron
  18. Remember Ground Speed and TAS are completley different. You can have a TAS of 150 Knots and add a 100 Knot tailwind for a ground speed of 250 Knots. Engineering analysis and testing by the airframe manufacturer predicted the onset of flutter to occur at 241 knots. Flutter is based on a certain true airspeed. Ron
  19. Could you cover it with fiberglass and epoxy? Or would that not be flexible enough? I do not think that would be flexible enough. I reinstalled my old one last week. What a challenge. You need to be able to flex it for installation. It is only maybe 3 inches wide and must handle the engine vibration even with the cowling not moving. Ron
  20. I have been told by Mooney and Russel with SWTA that the induction ducts for the E adn F will be available late January 2012. Ron
  21. I sent my hoses to Sacramento Air Parts??? and they made them and returned them in about a week. Ron
  22. I pull the prop back to 2500 rpm on take off. I have been doing this for 40 years. I think that it is probably a little easier on the engine. Pulling the pro back on some brand B and C aircraft is a huge noise reduction. This is good for our airport neighbors. Fly safe and friendly. Ron
  23. Does the shop that moved the plane and dropped it not once, but TWICE have liability for poor work? This is poor work on there part. It was not an emergency to move the plane, it was just necessary to move it. Ron
  24. Here are the page's and the assorted parts. Ron http://www.aircraftspruce.com/search/search.php http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/hapages/4002camlocwashers.php Cad Plated High Shear Grommet Retaining Ring R4T $0.89 Cad Plated Camloc Retaining Ring 4002-SW $0.65
  25. I just installed new cam locks on my F (Metal cowling). I bought these from aircraft spruce. The new lock rings are .020 wider that the originals that I removed. This may woek for you on the J's. Ron
