  1. How do you do the inflight mag check. What am I looking for? I did one last flight and the the RPM varied a little and the EGT's went up. Is this correct? I have a 69F IO360 Thank You Ron
  2. Mitch Mine is still in the mail. Ron
  3. Robert Tomorrow will be the 40th anniversary of getting my Pilots License. I have done touch and goes in many aircraft, basic, complex single and multi engine aircraft. The Mooney takes more practice than most. The Mooney requires more precision to fly correctly than most. 90 miles an hour on final is way to fast. No flap landings are just abusing your aircraft and incresing your maintenance costs. I have an F model and can if I work hard at it, have it stopped in about 700 feet. If you continue to fly 90 MPH finals with no flaps, you are eliminating many runways that you can use, they will be to short for safety. 75 MPH on final is great, and slow to just above stall speed over the numbers. Please read all of the information on properly landing your Mooney on this web site. As far as touch and goes go; I do not do them reguarly in my Mooney, unless I am on a long runway, there is to many configuration changes for me. Yes I have Electric gear and flaps, but it still requires a large trim change to go from landing trim to proper takeoff trim. Touch and goes can teach the proper attitude and speed control on final, how to touch down properly, but do not teach how to get the plane completely stopped. I have had Instructors have me do them, and I have refused due to comfort levels. As has been stated before, your nose wheel has a problem, get this corrected. If you go to the Don Maxwell web site, you can read about what a loose nose wheel can do to your landings. Please get this fixed. Your Instructor may be a good instructor, but he needs to teach you to slow down. Not every airport has a 5000 ft runway with jet traffic to deal with. Ron
  4. Are you going to relocate the brake resevoir to the engine side of the forewall? Is that what picture #2 is showing. Please post more pictures as you go. Thanks Ron
  5. On my 69F, I did a top overhaul on the cylinders, oil cooler relocation and the cowl enclosure at the same time. Speed is about 3 knots faster, noise, maybe a little quieter, maybe not. I do have to watch the Cylinder temps closer on climbout, is this the cowl enclosure or the new cylinders and more power. Once at altitude, all temps are good, even on a warm day. Ron
  6. John Thank You for the suggestion. I would have to remove the existing asphalt to be able to install the concrete. Locally concrete would run about $1.50 per square foot, plus the pumper. My finish concrete work sucks, I would also need finishers to complete. The going rate is for a Contractor is about $5.00 per square foot after the asphalt is removed and 2' in of soil. I would also want a 12" x 12" footing across the doors, plus steel in the pad. Thank You Ron
  7. I have an asphalt floor in my hanger. Do you have any suggestions for this, beside a coating of asphalt sealer? Thank You Ron
  8. The panels, paint and mail box are in a very safe place, now what were we talking about. Good luck finding them. Ron
  9. My 69F has a fixed step. I prefer to have it, it just makes it easier to get in and out of the plane. It probably helps protect the flaps also. My wife is 5' tall, and dealing with a portable step to help her in and out, no thanks. Ron
  10. I have this in an excell spread sheet. E-mail me and I will send it to you. N9154V@aol.com Ron
  11. Patrick Like most, we never met. We PM'd a couple of times. You were very helpfull in all of our lives. I just don't know what to say, Your passing has shaken me up. As you will remember, our tail numbers are very close, N9154V. Prayers to your family and the survivor. Rest in Peace. Ron
  12. Could it be the ELT? Ron
  13. Lood Your weight should have gone down. Did you remove all the pilot's storage in the plane, headesets, oil etc? Did they drain the tanks completely? Are you required to re weigh the aircraft every couple of years? My 69F weighs 1682 with Electric Gear and Flaps, modern avionics. My plane has not been on a scale yet though. Let us know what they find. Ron
  14. When I bought my F, I fananced thru AOPA BofA. We sent them a copy of the contract, they handled everything, paid off his loan. The seller called me a couple of days later, and I wrote him a check for the balance. It was very simple. There is no prepayment penalty on this loan. I just make extra payments to get it paid off sooner. Ron
  15. Jolie Come see me on the 12th. We will try Gail's out. Remember she is only 5'0" tall. Also, Come join all of us at the Oceano (L52) Open house on May 12. Ron
  16. I am wondering, did the 201 windshield aerodynamics hel avoid some of the collision? Would the original windshield have caved in? Glad everyone and the dog are OK. I bet this is more than a couple of weeks to get this fixed. Which windshield conversion (STC) did you put in? Ron
  17. Come to Calaveras tomorrow. There will be several Mooney's there. You should be able to sit in one, or possibly go for a ride. Ron
  18. Phil Why not concentrate on what we can do to promote GA and Mooney's. This thread go go only two ways, forget about it and help GA and Mooney's, or make it undesireable to be involved. Remember, most Pilots only get involved in there home field. Mitch and Jolie live near this field and are based at Santa Maria. Mitch and Jolie are doing the work of a 100 or people that I know, including me. If I buy a T-shirt, or donate in some way, that is my choice. It's obvious that you would not be donating to the Friends of Oceano. I have been flying into Oceanoi for over 20 years. The airport used to be friendly and well kept up. It went downwards for many years. The last couple of years since Mitch and Jolie have taken an interest in it, it is in better shape and much nicer again. Since you are or were a major portion of the VMG group, would you be offended if we asked about the tax status of that, and where did our money go? Like I said earlier, I bought some shirts and hats. I don't care about the tax status or the accounting. The money could have gone into your pocket or anyones else's, I got what my money bought, and that's what matters to me. Ron
  19. Phil You and Linda were very good friends with Mitch and Jolie in the past. Why are you starting this crap?? Mitch and Jolie are doing wonderful things for Oceano Airport, General Aviation and our Mooney's. Knock it off. Ron
  20. I have the JPI EDM 700 without fuel flow and the FS450 with fuel flow and other readouts from the 430W. It is fantastic this way. On takeoff, verify RPM, Fuel pressure, Manifold pressure and fuel flow, followed by a glance at the EGT's. All good, I fly, not good, stay on the runway. Enroute, adjust to what you want and monitor all. Ron
  21. The outer skin on our wings is just high enough to hit airport saw horse signs. Many times is a dent in the leading edge, and most will have it repaired by replacement. I have seen this before. It is easily repaired. Dad dit it, not me. Ron
  22. Matt I will take it. Can you mail or UPS to CA. I can mail a check to you. Please let me know. Ron N9154V@aol.com 559 577-2398
  23. A friend of mine has an RV 6 Tail Dragger with an O-360. It will outrun my F easily. Don't put much money on a bet, you may loose. Some have fixed pitch props and may not be as fast. Ron
  24. Mitch Call Lycon and ask. See you Sat. Ron
  25. Was your airplane damaged during the off-field landing? If the gear was down it could have been undamaged. Stick a new engine on there and fly it out. There is no requirement to list the reason for replacing anything. As near as I can tell, there was no airframe damage, They just replaced the engine with another. A 337 was filed later, they installed an IO360C1C instead of a A1A. There is a 337 that lists the changes to make it an A1A engine. I have the Piper Log books for this engine. Ron
