  1. Off to the airport to work on the annual and engine top. Should have it finished next Sat. I will be glad that this is over. Ron
  2. Sorry dumb question, in a Mooney is the ram air the alternate air? In my 69F, the alternate air is a spring loaded door located in the lower cowl, inside. It only opens when the vacuum is to great, hopefully only when the airfilter is clogged with ice. It pulls warmer air from inside the cowling. Do not open your ram air in ice, it can damage the fuel servo, and may restrict the air flow into the engine. I do not Know about J's etc. An E is probably the same. C's and G's should have carburator heat. Ron
  3. Almost 5 Years. Ron
  4. I noticed that there is a trim ring around the bulb that I'm certain needs to come out, but I've heard that you may have to remove the right side cowling to get to the light as well. Any helpful advice? On my 69 F, you would have to pull the right side cowling to access the wiring. Ron
  5. Check to make sure the gauge is grounded well. You may need to clean all of the grounds up. Let us know what you find. Ron
  6. I am in CA, so can't help you there much. But how big are you? Many of us carry extra pounds, some are real tall. With this info, we may be able to help. My F is as wide as a Bonanza, Cherokee etc. Some of the pilots are over 6 feet tall, and fit quite well. Maybe this will help a little. Also check out planes for Sale in your area. Good luck and enjoy. Ron
  7. When I did my 69 insulation, I ordered it from Laser. My A&P said just put it in, do not glue it. This way we can remove it if necessary. I just cut it slightly oversized and installed it. It is always in place at every annual. Order extra, I doubled it up when possible and practical. I took plastic trash bags into the plane when I removed the old fiberglass stuff, where a dust mask and gloves. Safety glasses if you want. If the windows are out, put a fan to blow out in the window. Scott Have fun. You will need to be flexible, the hardest part is moving around and getting a comfortable spot to work from. Ron
  8. The examiner winked and said, “I’m not supposed to tell you this ahead of time,” as he leaned over to whisper in Santa’s ear, “but you’re gonna lose an engine on takeoff.” The children of the world would have the FAA closed for this.
  9. Found this on E-Bay. 71 Rudder http://www.ebay.com/itm/1971-Mooney-M20E-rudder-/300638650607?pt=Motors_Aviation_Parts_Gear&vxp=mtr&hash=item45ff75c0ef 71 Tail http://www.ebay.com/itm/1971-Mooney-M20E-tail-section-/290647300506?pt=Motors_Aviation_Parts_Gear&vxp=mtr&hash=item43abedd99a Ron
  10. After they tear the engines down and inspect them, if needed they then have to send some parts out to specialty shops etc, and then wait for them to repair. They can not reassemble until they ahve all of the parts. Go to an engine shop and tour it. It will be very informative. Ron
  11. I just purchased 4 cylinders from Lycon for my F. I drove to Visalia to deliver the old ones and pick up the new ones. They gave me a tour of the shop, and explained what happens when you overhaul. I now understand why it takes months. They are not located on the airport, I did not enquire if they have access to the airport to remove and replace your engine for you. I have not started the engine yet, I am still doing the annual and a couple of mods. I do plan on using them when overhaul time comes though. Ron
  12. Jeev It looks great, when i get my F done, Artcraft is high on the list. Ron
  13. pjsny78 I am surprised about your interest in Artcraft. If you are concerned about the cost of Clear Coat. Do you realize that Artcraft is 3000 miles from New York. Or 500 gallons of fuel. Ron
  14. Every time I log in, I check to make sure that it is me that logged in. Only once did I manage to log in as someone else. I just logged out and re logged in. No problem. Ron
  15. Do we want a magnet located on the back of our Lycoming motors. Would this effect our Compass's?? Would this possibly magnatize our steel cages?? Ron
  16. Gary I created a picture for you, that is typical for my 69F. I am not an artist. Please see the Photo galleries, or my picture gallery. N9154V Hope this helps. Ron
  17. Steve I have checked Don Maxwell, Top Gun, Laser, Joey Cole and SWTA. All say 5 weeks. 5 weeks from when??? I think that if I took the wire out of the scat tube, Maybe with a little language help, I could slip one under the brackets that hold the duct into place. Then drill the scat so that the bolts can still thru. I think that the wire would not be needed, there would not be much vacuum on the scat. Ron
  18. I have most of the Vintage manuals that came on a memory stick from Mooney. Ron
  19. What serial number do you have? Ron
  20. I am doing a top overhual on my F right now. My induction boot is bad, it is not possible to see the damge to the boot when it is installed on the plane, you must pull the lower cowl and put the boot into your hands, then look at it. I do not want to patch it, I am wondering about putting a scat tube over it untill a new one can be aquired. Any thoughts on this? Please Also, When I get a new on to install, put a scat over the new one to help protect it? Any thoughts, Please ?? Are there any other suggestions, Ideas??? Thanks Ron
  21. Pomona and Bracket are the same airport. Ron
  22. Tom E-mail me at N9154V@aol.com Ron
  23. I have an IPad 2. I found that if I close the cover, the programs keep running and shorten the battery life. I now close the program and then the cover, battery life is much greater. I have a charger in the plane to keep mine fully charged on the longer flights. I flew last month on 2 days over 9 hours each day, plus fuel stops and had a fully charged IPad at the end of each day. Ron
