My vette gets 31 at 77mph, so the vette mpg is a thing as is the Mooney efficiency. Hope you get your vett back. Any chance the stratus has a unique online ID such that it could be located if turned on... like a MAC address on a computer

Welcome aboard Capn. If trying to decide between a Mooney and purchasing NE Oklahoma ...I’d go with the plane. To parse between models I think J or F model would work well for ratings completion and traveling with part of your family but in most all Mooneys you are starting with -1 seats so an A36 or Cherokee 6/Saratoga would probably serve better. The PA32-300, if I recall was about 13-15 GPH and served my family well on a lot of long trips when I was growing up. Im at KROG for a couple of weeks a month and may be able to make it over your way at some point this summer.

2019?

So far KHAE (Hannibal) > KROG ((Rogers) KODO (Odessa) 94E (Silver Cith Wiskey Creek) KFFZ (Falcon Field Mesa) > P04 (Bisbee) where I am now. Quite a road trip so far , lots of threading around monsoon cells in TX, NM and AZ. Will try to get to Tucson in a day or two. 0EFE5754-8EBF-4E87-A334-491228C808FF.MOV

Make sure to check your nose gear during preflight...

FBO just hosed mine.... had been on there both 2 months replaced for the last FBO that hosed mine. I am putting a "DO NOT TOW" sticker on it. SUUUPER frustrating. -
Agree with suggestion to engage their support. Due to multiple temps being effected, seems like a system wide issue. That is why I was thinking ground vs specific probe location. I think the logic board is another good candidate because that could effect multiple readings. I suppose the 830 could use OAT for some calculation reference WRT the other items but that seems kind of odd vs directly sensing each one. What happened with mine (jr) installer got the wrong probe wires pinned to the wron terminations on the pins that click into the plug connector on the back of the unit. Once you click the barbed pins in they are hard to remove and he didn't have more pins. I had no idea about this but know I'm having OAT sensing issues .... so when I am looking under the cowl I see the colors on the sensor end are switched around and I say ...”. OH here is why it is not working” Asked installer he told me the pinout story related above and added ..... so our guy got the pins crissed up..... blah blah...didn't have more pins yada yada ........so we corrected it at the other end....yada. He is like ..... I'm like [Chris @Marauder seems to have some more colorful, "off the official list" emoticons that involve sign language, but I'll go with this for now ]. So, I called the JPI support and they say my installers are and that the wires have different properties (I assume resistance) and must be straightened out on both ends . We did and it stabilized the readings. My sensor is in my fresh air inlet on the cowl so my OAT seeing is +7 °C vs windshield gauge in flight but matches it on the ground pre-start (need to move it to wing engine heat doesn't effect). Before the wire pin-out was corrected, my symptoms were OAT near match on the ground, as soon as I start the unit it starts climbing until it was indicating crazy OAT's like 60 °C during cruise at altitude. *My other temps were not affected*, just OAT. That is a difference, but perhaps the above info helps.

EDM 900 feedback YMMV 1. Check to make sure the grounds are good on the unit; I think the 900 needs to be grounded to the engine block (if memory serves might be wrong) and make sure the bonding strap from engine to firewall is well connected at both ends. 2. If stilL doesnt work, Then try switching the oat sensor Wires around. The initial installer had the wires crossed to the wrong pins on my EDM 900 oat thermocouple and it did almostexactly what you describe. They tried to cross the wires at the thermocouple to undue this but I think the wires may have respectively different resistance properties or something. The OAT wires need to be correct at both ends.

Outstanding!

We get in Friday a for the last weekend. Happy to meet up with any MSrs!

+1 on the 900. Then you are not in trouble/out of compliance when the 50 year old analog guages goes on you. Also the 900 has gone into quite a few Mooneys on this forum and there are some good resource threads amassing to deal with the quirks.

Thanks Scrappy! Waaay back in the day, I used to work at a couple of companies based out of Whiskey Creek that ran C340’s and C414’s when I was working my way through college at WNMU. Will be nostalgic to land there, glad to hear that the runway is still in good condition. I think the last time I landed there for 100LL was like 2004 on my way back to Missouri having purchased my first plane (PA28 235) . Will be nostalgic to see the place again. I will bring some ropes; thanks for the recommendation.

Hi Dream', glad you are seeing some light at the end of the tunnel. I just got my F back out of a 5 month-ish penalty box .... well sorta... I'm AOG due to a starter, but it is on the way. Anyway I can relate to the saga, expense and frustration. Flying it is really a lot of fun when it is done though! Looking forward to an update from you

Great follow-up thread Bartman; thanks for sharing. I have some noise too and have been thinking that the ignition harness is looking pretty long in the tooth... never thought of putting the two together.

Yes, but how does the student find the "Airplane"
-
That stinks on the fuel. I'll call and verify. If Grant county doesn't have fuel, I might as well land at Whiskey Creek (94E) in town. If neither have fuel, I'll prob stop in Las Cruces, Deming etc.. on the way in. Thanks for the heads up. Was going to practice on some 50' wide runways this week but my starter took a dump yesterday morning so had to unload the plane and drive down to Arkansas from Missouri . So, might go into Marana. I really would prefer to go into La Cholla though, one of my business partners lives right next to the airpark in Oro Valley. I'm coming in for our 10 years of business celebration for http://www.rigopest.com woot ! I think we actually do a lot of the higher-end residential work in Tucson including La Cholla, but I'm more the finance/business strategy guy vs ops; I'll ask Rigo; also could ask about MS'r discount if anyone is interested.

Very glad you are ok Alain. It can happen. My stepfather was flying a Cherokee 235 into Turner Ridge Port in Silver City, New Mexico (now closed...probably for the best) and had, I guess a wind-sheer. Lots of speed on final but very slow OTG speed flying into a 30KT+ headwind straight down the runway and all the sudden it was like a fly swatter smacked us down from about 20 feet up. No stall warning, nothing. We hit so hard that the full Rt. tip tank broke the spar and was hanging by the aluminum skin. Sometimes wind is not your friend.

Assuming no Chili on the burgers, I'd go Philly, but that is just me.... -
Thanks KLRMD! Really appreciate the scoop. Yes, I grew up in Bisbee, so am very familiar with the thermals and monsoons. Excellent advice on both accounts!

HI MS'ers! I am planning a KROG to Tucson area trip next week. Wondered if anyone had any specific recommendations regarding preferred Airports/ FBO's in the area . My business partner is in Oro Valley (NW Tucson). I see Ryan KRYN, Marana KAVQ are in the area. My friend's house is right next to La Cholla Airpark (57AZ) is private and not sure if they allow transients so I may have to do one of the outlying airports. My planned trip is roughly: 6/13 KROG to KSVC (overnight) 6/14 KSVC to P04 (Overnight) 6/15 P04 to P33 (Day trip) 6/15 - 6/23 P33 to <Tucson Area> <Tucson> to KROG Thanks for any thoughts you might have.

I think the F in question has electric gear so @MBDiagMan is there any physical limitation at that point?
-
+1 Also @Jpflysdfw If a trip to KROG isn't too inconvenient tiger trip, I can give you a ride in my F; I'll be down there next week to see a customer. My step-father had a Tiger (and 152 and pa28-235 and PA 32-300) growing up. I loved the Tiger scoring points with the cool cowling decal and the fighter style sliding canopy!

WATCH OUT line boys caused leak in my fuel tank.

Looked at it on flight aware, all the way to the Hudson bay! Nice trip! We go through Intl Falls up to Sioux Lookout every year to do a fishing trip and I've thought a few times how nice it would be to Mooney up there from Missouri. -
Very handy for VFR descent tthrough an opening w/o getting excessive speed
