  1. As long as it doesn't bite...
  2. Acid rain probably doesn't freeze at the same temp as normal rain would...
  3. They need to ship it to Blackstone and get the results back?
  4. One. Single. Thing. That we got better is cell pricing - I pay $10 for unlimited voice, text and some insane amount of data, and I get a data-only SIM card for free
  5. Just to make sure - the "Use Inkjet printer only" note on the page is not relevant, they work fine in a laser?
  6. To the best of my understanding, the sequence for tough stains would usually be: 1) clean / degrease 2) compound cleaner (eg. Meguiar's M105) / clay bar 3) polish (eg. Autoglym Super Resin Polish) 4) wax / sealant (C2V3); some exceptionally bad parts may need pre-treatment with very fine sandpaper (2000+ grit). I did not go for the sandpaper treatment.
  7. The potential advantage of Cessna's windows that open a bit wider. FWIW, many people carry special lithium battery fire containment bags like those on board airliners. When these things start to burn, they burn awfully hot.
  8. Not a pro pilot, not even a Jepp user, but I understand that the primary benefit of Jepp charts is their consistency around the world. Imagine if approach charts for each state looked different, sometimes significantly so. Welcome to Europe. Fun fact - Germany only publishes IFR airport charts for free, the VFR ones you have to purchase. That said, there are other providers that cater to airlines, I think Lufthansa owns one, but they don't cater to the individual private pilot.
  9. IR. Flying somewhere nice. The Summit.
  10. Anything of a reasonable energy density and price is lithium based these days; that said, the battery packs were susceptible to overheating while charging, not discharging, and I would consider these issues handled by any reputable manufacturer. Physical damage is still a potential issue. BTW, it wasn't really "explode" but "burn, baby, burn".
  11. I made the mistake of starting up the plane in front of the hangar with the doors open, just to check for leaks after an oil change... Lesson learned.
  12. In Poland we have LPG, not LNG, and I suspect the ones in Czechia and Germany are also LPG; here the LPG terminals are self-serve and no training whatsoever is required; they indeed initially were "attendant only". I believe the station needs to be "manned" and at least one of the employees has to have special training, but they can focus on selling beer and leave the LPG to the drivers. None of the LPG powered cars I had a chance to drive were great, but people live with the downsides because the cost per mile is about half of unleaded. We also have CNG powered cars and buses, but I believe only one CNG filling place accessible to the general public, and it is "attendant only" indeed. I'd still try to go the SI-1070 route if I had a Lycoming engine...
  13. Thing is, people say that a TKS install done properly, where everything fits well and done right, it doesn't cause a significant speed loss; see this post on EuroGA for reference. The amount of work that went into that install is chronicled in the linked thread, it wasn't "plug and play".
  14. @Skates97 - don't sell the DIY part of your blog short I went through the hassle of sourcing the exact window tint you recommended, so you're close to being an influencer @airmocha - like other folks wrote - whatever aviation topic you write about, you'll find a receptive and attentive audience here; it might take a while to "get" everyone's sense of humor, but each and every poster here are good, well meaning folks; most of them masters of their trade, who share their wealth of knowledge with us.
  15. TIL (Today I Learned) the newer Garmin boxes don't all do 8.33kHz - for example the GNC355 does NOT do 8.33kHz, you need the GNC355A for that, which costs $700 more. So beware.
  16. You aren't putting too much oil in the engine? Where "too much" might be well within the dipstick range - some engines dump oil to a certain level they like...
  17. Nose in for me, but we finish the taxi in front of the hangar. There are two planes in the hangar I rent - my Mooney and a C172; they are both "nose first" because that's much easier - we have a small hard area in front of the hangar, and that is where we taxi to under power; the rest is grass and much more rolling resistance, especially when the ground is soft. The Cessna flies more often, so the Mooney is the first one in, the downside is I have to push the Cessna out to take the Mooney out, put it back in, fly, rinse, lather, repeat when putting them back in. I really need some tug...
  18. Now I'm curious... Do tell, please.
  19. Depends which way you're trying to land
  20. Two words: Instrument Rating. I am getting discouraged with the ATPL theory course, which is pretty much the European equivalent of the single IR written from the FAA, so I might revisit the FAA route when we come for the Summit.
  21. VAT (which I guess is the closest equivalent of a sales tax) in Poland is 23%... 19% in Germany, I think. @jetdriven - I like the new logo.
  22. Thirded, may everyone be merry and in good health!
  23. Unless your name is Elon Musk
  24. Yes, I know about the difference between RON (research octane number - the one displayed on pumps in Europe) and MON (motor octane number), which I believe is the difference you're referencing. And AKI = ( RON + MON) / 2 so that's that - if memory serves, this is what the US pumps display. Aviation fuel ratings are yet different, but the Lycoming SI takes that into account, and still allows 88 MON / 98 RON automotive unleaded fuels to be used.
