  1. You said in another old thread you burn more fuel with the power flow. Yes or no? Cooler temps with higher fuel burn and a little more speed. No thank you.
  2. In sustained light chop under layer with some humidity my brother tried out a bag. I had procured from airline and have stored in pocket at front of seats and on back of front seats for rear seat passengers. Only "Fail" in my plane to date. He felt better. Sealed just fine. He didn't miss. I think to be pilot helps reduce "the nausea" thing. We are in control and focused on the task?
  3. I have been that guy many times...(Being laughed at for fear of heights). Something in common.
  4. Love any and all roller-coasters. Have a definite fear of heights. Climbed a lighthouse this spring in Beaufort. The steps were grated. Took everything I had to climb the stairs. Rubber legs/pit in the stomach/light shakiness in hands and feeling of general "dread". My wife strolled right out onto the grated observation platform on exterior at top of tower. Only then did she realize/remember how much I love heights. I sat with one leg out the door...She said "View is amazing"...I sucked it up and did a Chevy Chase (Grand Canyon in Vacation) and retreated back inside. I get terrets when on a ladder or roof, but grated stairs are worst. I did do a concrete elevator survey where you had to ride a belt elevator (ZERO protection) and duck as you passed through concrete floors. Took the reality of "You will die if you don't get off at top floor" to step off that thing. NEVER AGAIN. Just watched movie Everest and just shook my head over and over again while watching. "Because it's there" is not going to get me on the side of any mountain. I have repelled and done zip lines in military. Crossed obstacles while 30 feet in the air and dropped in water. Scariest part? Climbing the tower. Once hooked in I am good. Weird...
  5. Most "Vintage" owners have been where you are to varying degrees. I spent a LOT (to me) of AMU's on my hanger queen. It took a co-owner and about a decade to not only sort the "issues", but to also upgrade panel and firewall forward to make the plane a reliable cross-country machine. There are musts and there are wants. We have been "must free" for three annuals. That is a good and satisfying place to be. I bought a lot of "used" avionics that have all worked out. I saved a lot going down this route. I wish you success getting her back in the air. There IS a light at the end of the tunnel. Unfortunately 50 year old machines, especially those that were idle, often require re-building and replacing of just about every system to achieve a level of reliability that rivals...60's vehicles. Is what it is. They are what they are. I still love my Mooney and tell her thank you as I turn out the light and close the hanger door. (Usually in a whisper, because I know she is tired from her 2-4 hour cross country trips and I don't want the neighbors to know what I already do-"That I am Plane nuts".
  6. My childhood friend John was a couple years older. When he turned 16 we used to "borrow" his sisters old Buick and go down to the COOP where there was nice gravel. There was an 8Track with one tape. Nazareth-Hair of the Dog. Such greats as "Now you are messing with a SOB and love hurts. Donuts were completed for entire songs. "It kind of felt like flying IFR in the klag" with dust cloud enveloping the Buick and the lights illumininating the scene... Youth. Wasted on the young.
  7. Cheated DEATH again Friday and today.
  8. Mine is S# 1120. Must be close. Your bird is VERY similar in appearance to mine/ours. We have lower cowl closure and 3-blade with polished spinner...otherwise might start to enter wrong bird on ramp. Enjoy.
  9. Both FUNNY HA HA and FUNNY STRANGE. Must be awful to be haunted by a single thread that is now years old... The Horror....
  10. J's go 167 knots burning 10.5. It's in the manual so well it's fact. I quote it as such. If you question that my J goes 167 knots burning 10.5 I will see that you suffer the repercussions of your transgression. Because: It's in the manual so well it's fact. Question Authority. But...but...It's in the manual. Or as Ralpie so famously said to Flick "but the bell rang"...
  11. Byron: Thank you. A new favorite. Jumped ahead of Toothman and Bennett for my "personal favorite paint". Well done by you two. Love it.
  12. Spot on. No problem with your decision to "Never fly with me". Good day sir. I wish you success.
  13. $800 for senders. Indicators are NOT sold by individual, but are $_________. PLUS labor to pull interior remove/install new sender. Labor to remove install new gauges and labor to calibrate + labor to install/connect/install circuit breaker for electrical. $3AMU's minimum for "accurate" fuel gauges. NOPE.
  14. Funny. Winning or Losing? Friendship is over-rated.
  15. One's "Smarty pants" is another's ______________(M.Sers fill in blank)...
  16. Manners? Really? I think not.
  17. IF If's and but's were nuts...We'd all have food for life.
  18. Then you failed miserably. (You did not and have not made me feel uncomfortable in any way/shape or form). I really dis-like your sales technique. Nobody wouldn't buy anything from somebody...when nobody doesn't know who that somebody is. Your example of "peeking" in the fuel tanks and not properly observing level is funny to me. Just a B.S. Statement for vintage Mooney pilots. We are CB's. We generally fill our own tanks. We are smart pilots so we not only visually inspect (to confirm if we were not on the pump) that there is 100LL NOT Jet A in our tanks and that they are indeed so full that when the cap is removed fuel comes out...OTHERWISE we get our .25 cent paint stick and sump them. (We have confirmed that our measurements on our stick are spot on for quantity). We sump the tanks again confirming that there is blue fuel NOT water or other impediments in tank. We have a fuel flow totalizer. We have a check-list that states reset this. I have two totalizers. A G3 and a FPL. I have a clock to tell me to switch the tanks on the hour. It has a counter. I note the time of departure confirming clock is right. I have a second digital clock on the panel. I have a third clock on my wrist. I have a fourth clock on my I-pad. I have a switch tanks on my 696 message. I had my tanks sealed and senders confirmed functional by Paul Beck at Weep-No-More in Wilmer Minnesota. I had him replace the sump drains at time of re-seal. I depart primarily with full tanks. I don't push my legs. P.S. My fuel quantity indicators in my 50 year old vintage Mooney function as designed. I NEVER look at them accept by accident...BECAUSE I DO NOT TRUST THEM. I trust all the above. I don't trust you. I would not care to do business with you. Good day sir.
  19. Using typed symbols will get you banned. Calling out people: Not so much...
  20. Hi JR. I would enjoy hearing you elaborate further upon my "extreme personality disorders". My wife of 32 years and two adult children (one a recent engineer and the other a masters degree) should probably know of your assessment so they can take the proper measures to protect themselves. Crazy tirades/rants? I know using hash tags and stating an opinion can lose site privileges (that is a good thing). Apparently it is O.K. To call someone what you described above...Interesting. I thoroughly agree that some that do not wish to see others opinions should block them. I personally enjoy discourse and hearing specifics about how others feel. That is how I learn what others think and more importantly why they think the way they do. Last I checked ScottfromIowa aka Scott Thompson deleted ALL his posts on the Little Timmy thread including the original post. He did this out of respect for others that were offended by the thread. Have a nice day. Thank you for your opinion and input. Thank you also to those that supported the belief that pilots DO tend to exaggerate the speed of their planes. It was my intent to point out this fact vs. offending someone...
  21. Flew up to in laws cottages for first visit in 2016. Traffic was departing on 13 and we had two regional jets lined up waiting for a couple of likely Rockwell small (Lear type) jets on final. First a regional jet landed and then I am looking north and two landing lights are on top of each other. First jet lands (US Government) on side and on short final the second jet broke off to west did a tight turn and landed on its heels. Likely testing some wiz bang gadgetry. Cool to watch. We had our 8 year old pointer in baggage and our 7 month old pointer in a collapse able kennel in back seat. Uneventful flight skirting a restricted area at Ft. McCoy at 7500. Ground speed only 140 knots burning 10GPH 10LOP. Minnepolis flight following asked if I had notems. I fly up to D25 a lot and f-Ed up and didn't check 'em. He had my back. Paved runway was closed today for painting. Prepared to land on grass. Unicom talking to a departing plane and inquired about runway status. "O.K. To land 14, but taxiway closed. (Still painting) another guy missed that and we watched him enter taxiway and get balled out Young dog was jumping off dock chasing water splashes.... I LOVE GA. I LOVE my Mooney....I LOVE my bird dogs Fly safe.
  22. Based on topic description for Vintage this belongs elsewhere. That said, 1984 and up. Retractable rear seats is a MUST for step up/entry or any vintage bird wil do fine.
