  1. Got it figured out. Cleaned up the old spline, re greased and re installed. Will send the new one back to LASAR tomorrow. Now to get the gear rigging re done and I think I will be done with the painful first annual! As a side note, when I pulled the yokes off to do the 500 hour AD on my 1,500 hour airplane there was no evidence that a dye penetrant inspection had ever been done. Wonder how many like that are out there, pencil whipped? Edit: thanks to everyone who added their inputs! Love this group!
  2. Howdy again all, I am in the process of pulling my first annual on my E model. Once I got it up on the jacks, I found that the emergency gear extension would not work due to improperly rigged system. Pulled the gear motor assembly off, and sure 'nuff, the spline coupler that engages the emergency system was FUBAR due to barely riding on the end of the motor shaft. So, Step 1. Kick my own butt repeatedly for not buying an early Mooney with a J bar Step 2. Shake my head at how fragile this electric gear system really is Step 3. Call LASAR The awesome folks there had a spline in stock, so I bought and installed it. While putting things back together, I could not get the cable from the cockpit to seat into the spline. Pulled the clutch back apart, and found that the coupler has something wrong internally (burns perhaps?) where it will not fit correctly over the splines of the cable or motor end of the mechanism (very tight fit, and stops before engaging fully) The un-buggered end of the old coupler fits just fine and appear un damaged on inspection so I know that both my cable ends and my motor ends of the system are good. The question comes: has anyone else had trouble with this? Do you think that this coupler has a minor manufacturing defect, or am I doing something wrong here? Any advice from experience would be appreciated!
  3. Yup, Allen is right. Pretty sure this is the last piece in front of the regulator. Also have a vacuum pump for sale as well.
  4. Hummm. Forgot about that. Let me find it and I'll throw it in.
  5. Removed the PC system from my M-20E. Four servo-boots and turn and bank. Everything pictured was working when removed. Turn and bank overhauled at Brittan May of this year. Asking $700.
  6. Step was gone when I bought the plane. Owner before me was a speed freak and did all the "go fast" mods available.
  7. Yup, this checks. Here is the logic path: 1. The G-5 does not rely on pitot/static for its ATTITUDE indications. (It has its own AHRS) 2. The G5 does have its own STC. 3. FAR 23.1311 (a), the Aspen Evolution install requires standby attitude indicator with a separate power source (among other things), but it doesn't need to be original equipment. 4. A 337 removed the vacuum system. I'm sure this instillation could be argued back and forth, and the truth is (as told to me by my avionics guy) is that many shops don't like the G5 BECAUSE of its low cost, and try to find excuses not to sell it. I realize that my argument is clear as mud. And until regs are clarified as EFIS use and vacuum system removal becomes cheaper and more common in GA airplanes, the answer will remain that way. I am at least as comfortable flying IFR now as I was with one suction driven AI (actually a lot more), and I have people willing to sign off the instilation. I'll report back if I ever run into any problems, but for now, I'm very happy.
  8. I asked the same question. He said it was totally legal, and showed me the paperwork backing it up. Removed my vacuum system completely. Good riddance! KPAUL, yes, the altimeter and ASI had to stay. Also, couldn't switch the Aspen to Knots since the manual is written in MPH. :-(
  9. OK guys, just got her back from the shop! Sorry, couldn't find room for the 8 track! Here is what she looks like:
  10. I just upgraded my M-20 E and have a panel which was modified for a six pack round dial display for sale. $500 OBO. Hangar hanging out dog not included with sale. :-) Sorry about the upside down picture! I tried everything and can't figure out how to get it to rotate! I is computer illiterate
  11. OK, I think I have it figured out. Going with an Aspen E1000, JPI EDM 830, GTN 650, GTX 327, 8-track player, and s-tech 30. Removing vacuum system, keeping round dial airspeed, Altitude, FF and MP gauges for now as I'm not quite ready to make the 830 primary (I fear technology). Appointment scheduled at Muncie Aviation in Sept for install. This stuff is double what I payed for the plane, so it should double what the plane is worth, right??? Hello? *crickets*. :-) *This post produced afer a rum and diet night.
  12. OK, lots of good info here, guys. So, being "old school" I have no desire for an autopilot to fly an approach for me (follow a glide slope) but I do want to sit and munch on chips, and have it track a GPS/VOR/Localizer course. Is the Stech 30 the one for me? any reason to get more? (Edit) I have included a pic of my current panel)
  13. I have been reading, and I think you guys may have convinced me to go aspen for HSI and ADI. Thinking of an Stech 30 for an auto pilot... I originally wanted steam gauges because....'Murica.
