  1. I missed this thread. Good luck with your sale Brian. Had I known then, what I know now...I would have begged borrowed and pleaded for the extra to obtain your E. The "Value" is everywhere in what you have turned her into. Someone is going to get an unbelievable plane for the money. I don't want to think what it would cost me to bring my plane up to your level.... Superb.
  2. I will raise your good and call her superb.
  3. Not at all. Just so you are not "speedy" at everything The gentleman always finishes last.
  4. I lost a close friend and co-worker to a head-on. Pre-texting, but hit me hard. Left a beautiful wife and two lovely daughters. I fear being in the wrong place at the right time with the total driving I accumulate. Getting worse not better with inattentive driving due to hhd's. I will be glad when all my driving is like my flying-For pleasure. Look out for 'em people. Minimize left turns. I don't do them on the highway if I must stop. Assume nothing. Better to be alive than "dead right".
  5. $3.99 for self serve in Iowa/Wisconsin at airports I frequent. I refrain from buying at Class C home drome because Signature (full serve) is at a premium that I choose NOT to pay. That premium is $5.99 minus based on field reduction of .75. $5.24 for a gallon of 100 low lead? No thank you. We are talking $37.50 for a 30.0 gallon fill-up. THAT is a Huge difference. They are $5.99 to transient traffic. What they are saying is that they don't want GA they went J.E.T.-A....but they will "help you out" if they have to. I understand that they are having personnel come to my hanger and push out the plane/fuel it/return to hanger/return to Signature...BUT they aren't paying their staff $30 bucks an hour...The fueling likely with transit takes 30 minutes TOPS. It is a ripoff that I choose to not support.
  6. 30,000 business miles over last 30 years. Observation: Distracted driving and use of personal handheld devices is a BIG problem. Watch out for THEM and DON'T be that guy.
  7. There is a reason for the nanny's on lane management, active braking and proximity/blind spot protection... I would settle for people exercising their left finger on a turn signal and using a left lane for overtaking...not camping next to the car in the right lane...
  8. One example involves learning how to do something safely through experience. One is a dangerous distraction that can get you or others killed. I like my new company car. Apple CarPlay. Plug phone in and texts/mapping are read to you. You can send texts by pushing steering wheel buttons and talking. Reads back and asks if you want to send? STILL a distraction, but you can be hands free and head up/eyes on the road...while you are distracted by the thought process of what you are hearing and saying...
  9. Really? How about teaching how to drink and drive too 'cause that seems to not be working well in addition to texting while driving... How about watching a movie while driving? Intercourse? Make-up application? Shaving? Plucking Nose hairs? Reading a book? Writing a report? Eating Chinese? How about the uber course where we combine any of above simultaneously while driving? Success equals survival and a lack of bent sheet metal?
  10. I saw what you did there Jolie. Funny. (Photo Bomb) Like a Mooney with a left door we all have two cheeks... You appear to be a "Just Right" in the bear scenario Glad everybody is having fun at Oshkosh! Enjoy!!
  11. Lost my pitot tube cover in the storm...Kind of like losing a friend. (I bought it when I bought the plane).... Gone with the wind.
  12. I was hoping for a surely in there... Airplane (movie) humor...
  13. I have individual EI gauges and a 696 panel mounted on the right. The 696 is connected to the Garmin glare screen ADSB and Bluetooth to the iPad for weather and GPS. I have a G3 engine monitor, but would have gotten the round MVP monitor if it had been out. You have a nice panel. Agree that the DME is a boat anchor. I am interested in the new Garmin AH unit that is being STC'd. Don't forget ADSB Out. Mandate coming soon.
  14. I bet my drain tube is blocked or disconnected. I will check that out. Thanks for the photo. Is the tube right off the back in center of roof or on the sidewall Co-pilot or pilot?
  15. Plane did not appear "wet", but there were drips. I re-did interior/removed old original insulation several years ago, so plastic around tubes not insulation that would retain moisture. Just a head-scratcher on how it got in with cover in place, vents closed.
  16. I had my plane tied down through a pretty heavy rain event in Wisconsin this past weekend. I have a a Bruce's Custom Cover. When I removed cover and climbed into plane I noticed several drips from ceiling in vicinity of overhead vents/headliner. Plane is usually hangered except when away from home. Anybody else ever experience this event? I was not happy with my decision to wave the overnight hanger charge, but thought tied down with cover it would be fine. Not so much. I have SB tube compliance completed and the tubes looked good when I had interior out (removed ALL old insulation), but sheesh. How do you think the water entered? Through the closed ram air scoop? Antenna's have silicone and windshield is solid. Area by side-Windows is to low for headliner dripping... Just thought I would pass along my experience. Those covers are NOT waterproof in a sustained rain/gully washer.
  17. We are FINaLLY getting a break from high 90's and dew points in the mid 70's tonight. Siiiiiiigh. Feels good. Kel appreciates the knee ram air vent that we installed on co-pilot side last annual.
  18. Quick flight .6 home today after class reunion. There was a pancake breakfast so there was a lot of fun activity out at the airport. We followed a pair of Beeches (V Tail and Deb) out. Low cloud layer (about 3000') so just got up through at 4500. Fun to descend down through the opening where you can feel the speed (about 180). A lot of radio chatter with folks heading to Oshkosh. Nice controlled decent and straight in on 27 for a stall! Stall! Squeeker and hold it off. Always like when my wife says that was a really nice landing honey....Awwwwwwww. I love my Mooney and in my opinion I have the best Lookin' gal from the class
  19. You can pull the top cowl and lift your engine with mount too. Sorry to hear about this and the Oshkosh incident. I can't say enough how much I value the verbal gear and stall warning that I had installed in my plane. Love hearing the "Stall-Stall" in flare on landing in flare. Fly safe.
  20. Can you trim out the down pitch with trim wheel? Will it then hold level flight? What does the panel sight gauge show for a deflection? Are the two horizontal sight gauge lines deflected a lot?
  21. +1 Brittain installed altitude hold in tail cone. No room under panel. Not optimal, but ours works as positioned.
  22. My wife and our two pointers flew UP NORTH (Northern Wisconsin) on Saturday morning. We had taken the week off, but work wanted to "fly the drone" for a Wednesday (tomorrow) quarterly meeting...so plans were modified and we planned on coming back mid-day. Weather at bedtime was showing no thunderstorm activity until after five in Iowa. Unfortunately at wake-up it was showing T-Storms in Eastern Iowa by Mid-Day. One big cell over Des Moines heading East. We got the cottages cleaned up and headed to airport. I prepped already fueled plane while Kel took SUV back to cottage with "Free-bike" loaded. Cabin cover off and my little trooper emerges with deer fly's galore making her ride a "North-Woods" pleasure. We figured we were NOT going to get back home without a provisional landing and we were right. Convective activity forced us to our home town in South West Wisconsin. The guys had hanger space and we were on way to in-laws for lunch and "weather-watching". We spent a couple hours and the cell was just "parked" over our airport. Oh well. Coming back for a class re-Union Saturday so into my in laws Toyota Pick-up w/topper. Dogs settled in back. Weather DID finally clear by 8PM (VFR), but glad we made the decision we did. We both thought about "Pre-GPS weather" and the unknowns/uncertainty of flight "back in the day...not so long ago" and we're happy to have the technology that allowed good conservative decisions to be made. Trip up was at 6500 and return at 4500. Burned 10.1 and 10.3 at 10-20LOP both ways. Love our Mooney. Fingers crossed for an uneventful "Group Drone Photo"...supposed to be 97 in Des Moines tomorrow...
  23. I have read that the 4 banger and PF are NOT the combination that delivers gains of larger displacement engines where value is greater. I am not pontificating. I did my research and made my decision. I fly LOP. If I wanted to go 5 knots faster...and more. I can. I don't need a 4K exhaust to achieve speed gains.
