  1. I was asked to be our Corporate "Drone Pilot" because I had my PPL. Company bought a Phantom 3. I was pleasantly surprised how easy they are to operate. With the recent release of the small drone operating guidelines I decided to pursue the "formal" small drone license. It took about three hours online to take the free webinar training and complete the test. It is "open book" as you are on your own computer. About 32 questions. Scored 100% on test. The process is to then go to another website register and complete a application for the license. You get a number assigned that is then used by a CFI to review that you have a PPL/Current Flight Review and then after their confirmation the license is issued. The video quality/capability of the camera's on the drones is pretty impressive. I am going to take the drone up to my inlaw's cottage and take some aerial shots. Just thought I would share the process and see if any other pilots have pursued the license? Have fun.
  2. This thread ='s Face Palm...
  3. Reminds me of the old Peter Paul commercials: Sometimes you bounce it on in...Sometimes you don't. Some Mooney Drivers bounce 'em on in...Sometimes they don't... "Yeah, Yeah Yeah"...Add some power after you bounce it on in...Prop strike if you don't..."Whew".
  4. I say _ _ _ _ this thread.
  5. Something is different...Can't put my finger on it. I now like this thread. Hmmmmmmm....
  6. Again, I don't care how anyone fly's their plane. Fly it however you wish. There are a lot of different techniques...
  7. I apologize for challenging you to be able to land the airplane the way it was designed to be landed.
  8. That was a great way to handle that. I have an now 86 year old mother that is living with my older brother. She continues to drive locally. The area (Arkansas) is very unforgiving (if you leave the roadway) with steep ditches/drop-offs. She had several "fender bender" incidents and her driving ability is NOT what it should be. It seems reasonable to mandate a vision and driving test for those over 85. This is a tough area as a license is freedom/independence and all that goes along with it...
  9. I read an article by Paul B today. He talked about being an aging pilot and "when is it time" to discontinue flying as PIC? I found it a good read. I had often thought about the financial drain and as retirement approaches, how long will I continue to own? I hadn't, as yet, thought about age and its insidious decline of physical and cognitive function. What will be your "cues" to exit gracefully?
  10. REALLY pleased to read your story. The story is awesome and extremely well told, but it pales in comparison to your airmanship when the chips were down and you played the hand dealt. Well done! I really prefer altitude to airspeed for my cross-county flights. My take-aways from your tale are many, but altitude is your friend is my ringing mantra. Options are wonderful.
  11. I hate these threads because posters rarely discuss their altitude/power settings and fuel burn. My question is why don't you include this for reference? It takes the "magic out".
  12. Thanks Andy. I sent for info.
  13. What is the foam thickness in inches on your seats that were re-done with the memory foam guys?
  14. Anything would be better than what I have, but maybe a lower/bottom layer of "hard" then a layer of medium and then soft? No clue...Maybe I will buy some foam and do the pilot's seat/have done by Lynn who did the outer replacement/refurb on the seats...Life is too short to not be comfy in the rumpus while flying fast on a little gas...Right?
  15. Any suggestions from everybody on what comfort level would be best for seating?
  16. Thank you. I will take that advise.
  17. I usually have at least 50lbs in baggage too.
  18. I hear you. I would rather designate the engine shop and have all the time on the engine known to me. It is to bad that the economics are NOT working on this. I see that is the case based on others for sale at less or equal price point. Either you need to buy a gear up F for $10k or it just doesn't make good financial sense....Wowza. Nailed it Yetti. Thanks for the education everybody.
  19. If it goes for under $20k You could have a nice F with new engine/prop/belly for $70k. That is not bad at all. Is it? What do real people in the real world pay for an F these days with a fresh major and new prop? Interior/equipment and paint look acceptable. Can you get an F for under $70k with freshly majored engine and new prop for $__________? Probably why planes only sell when they are run out hanger queens with a dead owner...Not worth what real people in real world are willing to pay for their investment. Brian's F comes to mind...Beautiful...but it sat. I would prefer his plane...But the idea of a new major/prop appeals to me.
  20. Please provide "How to" details on quantity etc. for this foam. I am super interested in upgrading my seat pan cushions! Thanks in advance.
  21. As long as the engine keeps running hard until she says flight is finished and I can shut down...she's good. Great story Bartman. Had me laughing out loud...
  22. I made a HUGE mistake being a C.B. When I had seats recovered. My seat is just awful to sit on. I sit on an Oregon Aero cushion (on top of seat), but the Butt pad on seat is so broken down it provides NO support. I re-position on 2-hour flights and simply HATE the lack of support and resultant right leg and right Gludious Maximus ache that occurs on a cross-country.... Sigh...seats "Look" great. Functional? Not so much...
  23. So glad this had a happy ending with the "found" hose on exhaust before as you stated "Great balls of fire"... Do you have a shot/photo of the line in the plane? Must of been difficult to see. Was a clamp missing? Did it come off? Never on? Removed and forgotten? Unique hose position with Turbo install? This is so great that you resolved this on the ground without incident. Really happy for you and family/friends. Pop a bottle of champagne and get toasted...YOU sir cheated death and it is indeed "Your Birthday" once again. Happy Birthday to you
  24. eBay has what looks like a nice F for sale. I have bought some things from basaviationsales in Colorado. Good folks. Looks like plane is in Arizona. $18 on bid with no reserve. Engine is close to overhaul. Would need new prop and one piece belly. With overhaul, if bought right looks like a good starting point...
  25. Just so you aren't drinking pitchers while in cruise...or fielding what they throw...
