  1. When I go full flaps on final I am rolling in a bunch of nose up trim. Yes, this is weird.
  2. The only time I look at the trim indicator is when I preflight. Otherwise I trim the plane. Flaps? I do two and four pumps and I look out the window. Grumpy and living in Sunny Southern California? Whatever.
  3. Tom, That is a bucket list item. Coming from the East what would be the best way to minimize "over water travel"? How much time over the lake? Haven't done any research, but Always wanted to take my wife there. We vacation often in Northern Wisconsin (very close to UP).
  4. Super saddened when I heard of this. I had been following the project for a couple of years. I did not know that this was to be the final test flight with the plane going on a permanent display in a museum following the flight. RIP Scotty. That video was difficult to watch.
  5. Yup they had a band and everything. KaZoo's, Clowns, and BBQ meat on the power lines. Quite a show. Nothing like the smell of charred flesh to get the 'ol appetite goin'.
  6. My AccuTrak is connected to the left right analog out of a GNC300XL GPS. The separate Accu-Flite tracks a heading bug on the DG.
  7. Just missed the power lines...viaduct...light poles...traffic lights. Another great "Save" for team C.
  8. ...and the wing leveler is "always engaged"...unless you push a tiny widdle button and disengage it...That tiny widdle buttons "defeats the P.C." And we all lived happily ever after.
  9. Are you being serious? It takes very little effort to defeat the vacuum in a PC system. Let's not scare the kids...
  10. +1 on over ten years and counting....I'm good until something wears out. I have another generator ready to roll when time comes. Doesn't fly in the plane though
  11. I can't imagine how good that must have felt...Once loaded/transported and safely to airport...whew!!!! Congrats.
  12. Returned after quick weekend UP North (Kel's family re-Union Saturday) Friday PM Up and just back. Nice to be able to get up to 8500 VFR for a 2-hour flight. Saw ground speed of 142-146 knots burning 9.5 at 10 LOP. Super smooth. Kel's mom is one of 7 kids. The annual re-Union on a lake is a wonderful day. Grandchildren are now able to tube and frolick next to the dock at one of her uncles. Weather was sunny and NOT oppressive (Mid 70's) which makes for perfect on the sidelines and O.K. For kids that LOVE THE WATER I love our Mooney. Saved 11 hours of driving...Really trip wouldn't have been done without Mooney as Kel needed to be back this afternoon and driving would not have allowed any relaxation. Instead: A wonderful weekend with family enjoyed....
  13. Talk about dark...Today I thought "what if another plane came (out of nowhere) and sheared our tail opening the rear of plane to below...dogs gone. I would be looking over at my wife and saying "I'm Sorry...I love you, the kids will be fine. They have grown up to be beautiful people and we are leaving them financially O.K."...Then I smiled to myself...resumed my scan and said "Geez that was a weird thing to think about"...Flight was smooth/uneventful and capped with a Squeeker. I am vigilant, but. "_ _ it" does happen. You'll have that...
  14. PC/AH II Pitch stabilization and altitude hold is what I have installed in addition to Accu-Flite Heading Bug and Accu-Trak (analog left right out of a Garmin GNC300XL (tracks a GPS destination input). Used the Accu-Flite and PC/AH II today on return flight back from northern Wisconsin at 8500 feet. The pitch setting on PC/AH II was pulled and I trimmed it out and it just holds the plane at that altitude/pitch (that was level flight). No workload other than looking outside for traffic/instrument scan and enjoy the music from my I-phone. My A&P installed the Accu-Flite and Accu-Trak. Brittain installed PC/AH II in Tulsa along with refurbish step and PC-Boots. I bought all parts on eBay (including the Nav Head with heading bug that was Accu-Flite compatible. Brittain's website has photos and descriptions of all three on their website. I am very happy with all, but don't use the Accu-Trak that often as the heading bug works great and I confirm track on the IPad running Garmin Pilot (Co-Pilot yoke mount) and an Air Gizmo mounted-hard wired (to ships power/external antenna and GDL-39 glarescreen mount weather) Garmin 696. The GDL-39 gets power from panel mount input. I mounted on right side of panel so no visible cables. Set-up works great. Be patient. Took a few years (funds needed that anyway) to acquire and install all Brittain "stuff". eBay has them up from time to time. WAY cheaper than an S-Tec and easier to justify in a legacy bird...
  15. I also replaced generator and Zeftonics controller and ZERO problems (700 hours later) post install. I have a volt/amp digital EI readout and it is always stable at 13.9-14.1 indicated. I do get charging on ground with relatively low RPM. EI has a discharge diode so "I know" what status is. So far so good.
  16. Ha ha...good one. That was a knee slapper. You are a funny guy. Just as Joe P.
  17. Nevermind. I thought this was another political thread... (that was a joke)
  18. Apparently one that is not (fill in word) their customers. I have had good parts experience with Wilmar, but I would have laughed in the guy's face at that one.
  19. It's a simple piece of metal with a rivet and paint. It was back in 2000 and I think it was Laser. They charge idiot prices cause people will pay it. I would not pay $100 for that part. No friggin' way.
  20. I bought a new one from a service center several years ago. Cost like $7 bucks...
  21. I am blown away by the awesome insight here. Really good stuff. I learned somethings today. That makes it a "good day". Thank you all.
  22. "We are ALL in the game"...Including spouses family and friends. 100% spot on. Agree that the title was NOT appropriate and more "attention grabbing".
  23. Why do pilots always immediately try to dissect what was the cause of an aviation mishap? I believe it comes from a strange place. Doesn't make me angry. Just makes me scratch my head and wonder why? Most pilots know how to fly an airplane and know there are a lot of reasons/contributing factors (often in the same event) that result in a crash. Do you do the same thing when there is an auto accident on the news? A shooting? A stabbing. Those events are also likely complicated and worthy of introspection...I personally feel badly when aviation accidents and national events occur, but I don't try and dissect the why? It strikes me as a little dark when the body is not yet even cold. Am I the only one that feels this way? Not judging. Just trying to understand why, perhaps the same as you all ultimately are with the event...
  24. Sorry to hear of this. I fly over that beautiful area by LaCrosse often. Picking up a friend to head to EAA...When I go I also fly into Appleton, as I have a friend that lives there. Fly safe everyone. I will think of him next time I fly over the Mississippi where it intersects with the Wisconsin River... I feel especially bad for the friend he was going to pick up. Flying is unforgiving and sadly final in its quick end.
  25. Blue and Gold. Good California colors
