  1. To cool for school. Whatever. It is not a lot of mathematics. No they are NOT 747's, but really experienced pilots die in the pattern. So speed DOES matter. Overruns ARE a problem and LOC. To each their own, But I have learned about speed control and use of flaps to minimize energy from Mooneyspace. I appreciate the posters clarification regarding "over the numbers speed" as I ultimately fly a LOT like him in pattern. I slow to 80MPH and pitch for that speed on final. Once the runway is made I am power OUT and I don't look at the ASI again. I let the plane come down. I round out and I DO nearly always hear the stall horn in the flare before mains are down. I pull yoke back and hold it off. I used to fly with NO FLAPS on landing. Then take off flaps. I am a full flaps convert. I am an average pilot, BUT I know that slower is better at touch-down in my Mooney. Bonai: YOU should be challenging yourself to master full flap landings in your plane. If I can do it well YOU can.
  2. Again, 80-85MPH OVER THE NUMBERS is too fast. You all defend that all you want. You fly how YOU want. I said my piece. 79,78,77,76,75,74,73,72,71,70,69,68,67,66,65.....obstacles showmophsticles. Who said drag it in? Not me. TOO FAST.
  3. Glad to hear! That shop would be reasonable for travel. Good for you getting them up. Maybe a new/future pilot has been born?! That is when I fell in love with GA.
  4. Who did your paint? Love the scheme! Looks fantastic, but NOT as good as your co-pilot
  5. There is another thread with the side-mounted later type visors on an articulating mount. You two should collaborate. I like the idea of them articulating and NOT pointing straight back. That is a no-go for me. I am interested. Mine are just getting OLD...
  6. +1! To YOU & to Shoulder Harnesses in Vintage Mooney's. First thing I bought. You survived. Congrats. Well done sir. I hope, should I ever be placed in your shoes on that day, to do as well.
  7. 80-85MPH IS TOO Fast over the numbers. Regardless of weight. SLOW DOWN. You should have power OUT when runway is made and just let it come down. If you are coming down and over numbers you are NOT going to stall the plane. More importantly you want to use less runway, less brakes, less speed means safer. You will float, float, float in the summer with that speed over the runway. WHY? Practice using LESS speed. You will still have plenty of energy for round-out and flare. If stall horn is NOT on at/during flare you are flying it on to fast.
  8. This looks like a fun and functional project. My question is: This is a certified airframe. Is this "legit" to be dabbing your own stuff/installing/using in your plane? Don't get me wrong, I am cheering you on from sidelines, but wondering if you get ramp checked if this will get you in trouble? I still wonder if I am "legal with my 696 in a dock on co-pilot side of panel AND if my co-pilot yoke clamp for my I-Pad are "O.K."...But I still have both and they BOTH improve safety in the plane... Have fun!
  9. Trying to imagine doing that landing on a Mooney's gear....Ouch!
  10. Getting close... Flap I purchased to replace a functional but ever so slightly hanger rashed right flap...I pushed my plane back into hanger shortly after buying (winter/icy) and there were two vertical hanger supports if you went to deep you hit 'em...I did. Totally cosmetic, but found a replacement flap for $350 after watching for a decade on EBay. Sister visiting and after cousin picked up and took to her house sister put in van and delivered to hometown in Wisconsin via Arkansas...Picked up today (Fit in my Ford Fusion BARELY...Dropped off at A&P and opened up box. Flap looks good. Relief. Soon to have a rash free bird for the first time in my ownership. NICE.

  21. Marauder, when I gaze upon your panel I never notice the background. Black, textured...who cares when you have the utility and eye candy there. Not me. I would have them powder coated and be done...Texture smexture....pick a color you like and be done with it.
  22. Mine has interest and aptitude at nearly 23. It is finances that are his limitation. He graduates with a degree in Civil Engineering in May. We get a raise then as he will be off the healthcare payroll. Yeah!
