  1. Don't be goofy. You have a beautiful plane. 20HP is no big deal. I like the ideas of a power flow exhaust and burning a little more gas if you want to go a "little" faster. 'Cause that is all it is. You are the cow looking at that grass. Just keep eating what is on your side of the fence. It looks pretty damn good to me.
  2. Last Friday Planned for a Mid-Day departure to see The Cure in Kansas City. The weather was forecast to be crappy so planned to drive. (About 4.5). Weather looked good in the morning and I asked "why are we not flying"? As we departed the driveway. Some discussion resulted in a retreat of a few blocks to grab flight bag and headset. We departed and flew with a slight crosswind and about 135-140 knots at 6500. 10LOP with a flow of 10.1GPH. Talking to Chicago and Kansas City Approach I was cleared through the Class B for Downtown at or below 3000. On landing found fuel to be 3.99/gallon and no tie down fee. NICE. Our first "Uber" experience and all went great. Outdoor venue "Starlight" was fantastic. The Cure hadn't lost a thing since the 80's. Warm night with a light breeze... Next morning a leisurely wake-up and a return at 7500. 9.1GPH and a nice push saw 160-165 knots. Climb was a wonderful 1100-700 fpm at over 140knots! 1.4 on return vs. 1.6 on trip down. 3 hours in the air up high nice and cool vs. 9+ droning on the interstate. I love GA. I love my Mooney. I love The Cure. I love my Co-Pilot.
  3. PUSH- David any updates on the compatible spinners with your Mod?
  4. When I read B.S. I expose it. If you are serious...If you were truly offended, I feel sorry for you, but will offer you a congratulations on achieving 165 knots in your J. I don't believe you did achieve that without the aid of wind, so I will simply state that your airspeed indicator was off or you are prone to exaggeration...Like most Mooney pilots are when it comes to true speed of their planes. If you are quoting the POH then say so. I don't live in utopia. I understand that in the real world people use $%^& to describe $%^&. In the US honesty and integrity loyalty make the the man. Manners maketh the woman. Oh I am definitely THAT apple in the barrel. Calling a spade a spade is a beautiful thing. Regards and good day to you sir. Nobody
  5. Agree 100%. There really is no excuse for not monitoring and timing your departure. It has cost people their lives. Like riding a motorcycle you must always expect the "worst" from other operators. I have experienced far more courteous and strong communication from fellow pilots than poor self-centered me first behavior. FYI one of the worst landing I had was on my check-ride. I think I passed because I rejected his request to make the turn-out. I could have, but I would have had to lock up the brakes. I said "unable" and rolled out to next turn-out. Most of what they are assessing is your decision making and overall competence. Not looking for perfection...My Private FAA check-ride was with a former WWII P-38 Lightning pilot. Pretty cool.
  6. In Dave's defense (I was teasing) he said he was excited to see the Mooney, as I too would have been. I like any and all commercials IF they have airplanes in them. I really like the look of the M10 and am cheering that Mooney is successful with the trainer on an international basis. Agree that it would have also been fun to see the two door Mooney in flight and on the line.
  7. I actually liked both your before panel and before paint too, but definitely a vast improvement. Looks fantastic!
  8. Let me see...152...Warrier...or M10 with "spindles" gear? HMMMMmmmmm. That's a tough one. A Mooney owner sees a live version of a clean sheet design and feels uncomfortable at the perceived commercial at his/her field at a gathering of airplanes...a show to show/celebrate planes. Good Grief, just enjoy the show. I find people's reactions to stuff entertaining. THANK YOU for sharing the photos...and insight into what makes you uneasy...
  9. Helmet? Optional. Parachute? Mandatory.
  10. I find this post funny ha ha Matt. Rock that helmet my man... Take a selfie with sweet visor in action. That would be awesome.
  11. The guy that took the active runway when you were on final just told you how important he is. He doesn't need no stinkin' rules. He is the king. Just ask him. Don't be that guy...If you run into him...make sure and leave a mark wherever and whenever that encounter takes place. I was on golf course last night. There are signs about 100 yards short of the green with arrows and the word carts...Many seem to think, like turn signals, that these are optional...guidelines if you please. Not requirements. These entitled folks are everywhere. I choose to let them know what I think of them at every opportunity. I don't seek conflict, but if more would call out the line jumpers and rule-breakers perhaps society would be more civil and the actions would be in the minority instead of pervasive. Just like on this site...I am REALLY popular. Or not.
  12. J owners are NOT getting 167knots unless they are going downhill. Definitely NOT at 10.5GPH fuel burn. What a load of baby recycled food. Why do some feel the need to flat out exaggerate about speed in what is already a fast airplane? -Modified to be generic vs. "attacking" any one pilot...
  13. Yes, you are (broken record), but since you are playing "my song" feel free to groove the hell out of it. When I fly I don't putter. I bought the Mooney to fly cross country fast and efficient. Whether climbing to 2000 of 10000 WOT gets you there more quickly with no penalty other than fuel flow. It is safer (altitude is life), cooler (on the engine and the passengers as cooler air is higher) and faster. This s a no-brainier, but "Max" for many (It's your engine etc comments) is just a hard concept for some to grasp. This concept is a lot like LOP. Some get it and some think bad dark thoughts. WOT in climb is NOT "hard on the engine." IT is BETTER for cooling. Now leaning in climb...THAT has the potential to cause problems if not done properly. Enough Noobs and non-believers to make this resurface like a Crakken from the depths... and to Mr. "Check ride"...I rode a tank and a generals rank when the Blitzkrieg reigned and the bodies stank.
  14. I look forward to see the preliminary on this debacle. Don't be this guy. Looks like a waste of a perfectly good airplane. I can hear the saw already. Glad no one was injured on the ground. Could have been much worse than a lost airframe... I flew right seat and noticed a couple of "opportunities" with the pilot I was flying with. He welcomed input. I will just say that if you can't maintain directional control of your plane on an aborted landing you might want to be practicing with a CFI or looking at getting out of the flying business. This "hobby" will kill you AND others if you aren't on your game. Reality can be a harsh teacher. Here is the "Trend" I am observing. Rusty pilot. Short/narrow runway. Wind. Opportunity: When you are rusty you might want to fly out of and into an airport that has a long wide runway. You might want to fly on a benign wind/weather day until you gain/regain experience. Putting oil/gas in plane and confirming they ARE there is also a plus. You may want to fly without someone you care about...and or somebody that is under 250lbs. You may want to fly with an instructor... In the long run this can be the CB way to go. ALL instructors are NOT equal. Find one that challenges you and is a kick@$$ pilot. These scenarios are a truth-dart to me. Hocus Pocus STAY focused. Or be "That Guy"...
  15. Don't miss going to Hunting Island State park and climbing the lighthouse/walking beach. BEAUTIFUL. Enjoy!
  16. WHAT IS THE STALL SPEED OF AN SR20 OR 22? ISN'T IT ABOUT 65MPH? WHY WOULD YOU BE TOUCHING NOSE GEAR AT 80-85KNOTS?
  17. Don't feel bad. There are Mooney owners that can't resist hitting the brakes...NOT breaks early. Again, I see a lot of maturity and progress in your description of your flying. I can feel your starting to "get it" and gain confidence. Good for you.
  18. To quote Virginia Slims: You've come a LONG way baby...
  19. Ya, back here it was quality...
  20. How about the thread morph into the importance of accepting responsibility. Individual accountability. A lot of "real pilots" are just like 20 somethings. Way to be young. You know 20-somethings they are all about introspection and owning "it". Congrats.
  21. Duly noted. I am "good"...with that.
  22. You had zero insight into what I wrote. That's on you not me. It wasn't that complicated so maybe you need to examine it a bit more. Let me clarify: When I have a poor landing I don't make excuses. I know it was my error. (See list of excuses blaming "it", the poor landing on many areas that aren't in the mirror looking back at them. Putting your seat back so you don't hit the brakes is a poor technique. Using heavy braking to "make your turn-off" is poor technique. Both could, and have resulted in RLOC incidents, blown tires, excessive brake wear. I know there would be "that guy" that thought I was being arrogant with my reply. My $%^& stinks. I know it. I know where it came from though. I courtesy flush and light a match. I don't blame random food, the moon, my excessive habits or the toilet seat for the smell. So, in summary I take offense at your offense. Just examined my ears and nose. There is hair in there. I take scissors and tweezers and eliminate it... How is that for examining... Oh joy, I life worth living. FAIL.
  23. When I FUP a landing or a golf shot I know exactly who not what is responsible. Sticky yokes, elevator mischief....Again, FUNNY. I think I need my carb idle checked...HILARIOUS...
  24. This thread is hilarious. Love the braking on rollout comments...Too funny. Put the seat back so you don't brake. Heh heh. That's a good one. Free will is a MF. Fight the urges...Come on...you can do it. FAIL.
  25. You NEVER need to apologize for flying MORE and Polishing Less. A badge of honor. Just slows Snoopy down a bit...You are STILL faster than brand P & C.
