  1. The preliminary is out. The diving to low level and low level flight was obvious. Two additional areas: 1. Buzzed within 75’ of a house 2. Didn’t pull the chute safety pin (as directed in pre-flight) procedures. My take: Again stating the obvious: Pilot error. Pilot multiple errors is more appropriate. I agree with the adage that flying is inherently safe, but terribly unforgiving to known unsafe actions. I feel for Roy’s family and friends. If only someone that loved him or that he respected could have intervened? Sad.
  2. Tom, So sorry to hear of this loss. That was a fine tribute. Men such as these are NEVER replaced. I feel your loss. How fortunate you must feel to have been able to absorb some of his wisdom. I will say a quiet toast to him at our families Thanksgiving celebration. I am certain you are thankful to have shared some life with John. May he live on in your minds eye.
  3. That guy is a _ _ _ _ _-_ _ _ _ _ _ _. Face palm.
  4. $2400 a year plus fuel and $25/hour engine fund. Co-Owner pays the same. Upgrades? Extra. ADSB Compliance? (Robbed engine fund)
  5. Do you see dust in your dreams Tom? I mean “Sand-Man”
  6. +1. Waiting with baited breath. Speed mods...kinda funny on that bird... Funny awesome.
  7. I got my upgraded 201 style yokes on EBay from Greeley, CO. I won bid at $75 bucks with shafts... Stole ‘em. There are deals to be had if you are patient. I powder-coated mine. Some day the plunge to the aero-comfort yokes will be taken. For now a tennis racket grip on the left pilot yoke for my sweaty summer paws...
  8. I got a little tears eyed seeing the photo and reading it. Awesome!
  9. Face palm. Not trolling any more than that. Turtle..... Wow...
  10. AVWEBFlash is the location for that article...
  11. There is an informative article from a former pilot and FAA insider on why privatization of FAA is a bad idea. Check it out. The summation: The world looks to the USA and the FAA as the “glue” that binds the worlds air traffic system. Safety and continued function of the system relies on the FAA. Multiple scenarios and areas are discussed. I have read nothing that sways me into believing that privatization will result in a safer and more efficient system. Is there anything behind this being a cash grab for the aviation trust fund $ by big G or those that would lead the private entity? I would like more information on what $ are there for projects/operation of FAA. How much is coming from taxes to “non-users” of system vs. from seat charges and fuel tax?
  12. I have the Uber version. 5’2” and eyes of Green. Best of both worlds
  13. Likely the total cost of living in this Missouri town is not the same as Chicago suburbs. Likely people are just as happy living in a two story home built in the 1930’s with a detached garage. Likely they don’t have multiple new cars with payments. Likely they have one rifle, one shotgun and one pistol and ONE wife. Likely they are happier than a lot of other “big city” dwellers... Likely they feel just as “Rich”. There was a reason five of my family retired in North East Arkansas. It wasn’t because of the golf...
  14. There is a thread about this like two below you.
  15. Not kidding. My ST is a big heavy pig and I am not doing any sport touring. Maybe a nice used 600 ninja to play on a quiet country road. Riding in heavy traffic? I don’t need that s$%^. I am nearing relaxation and fun stage of life. I want to enjoy my grandkids some day... You have fun. I think of myself as wise and knowing my and others limitations vs. scared, but whatever works for ya.
  16. Been there...Done that.
  17. “Signal 30”. Still remember the guy that was impaled by a pole he was hauling. Black and white gore...
  18. My motorcycle is going up for sale next spring. I can no longer pull it up onto the center stand...so.... I drive 30k business miles a year. I have done so for over 30 years now. Drivers for a lot of reason are NOT paying attention. Signals are rarely used and often as an after-fact. I have been lucky, but I also don’t do stuff that puts you at risk. We all know what those “things” are. I personally feel much safer in my plane on a VFR cross country than I do driving on I-80. It’s not just you. I believe every car and truck is trying to kill me until proven otherwise... Drive/Ride/Fly safe everybody.
  19. Thanks. I had “Gotten there”, but am “thick” so the further clarification is good. I am interested in the Gyro-free world (Horizon and Heading) too. The Heading does process(sp) so that would be eliminated. When they “die” they go. Glad to know that it can drive the Brittain systems I have installed.
  20. Yes, My GNC has analog L/R that drives the Accu-Trak. I thought the Nav Head on the DI for the Accu-Flite had vacuum, but appears that the head is driven by electrical inputs...So it would appear the Accu-Flite COULD function with the Garmin G5?
  21. That is beyond my pay grade Technical capability. It sounds like you are saying that an analog signal left right (without vacuum) can be used to run the Brittain (Similar to the Accu-Trak) vs. the vacuum heading bug DG unit that I have now? I wonder if a GNC300XL can drive the G5 heading? This is interesting, but I am (obviously) a lay-man...
  22. We are not on the same page. The G5 heading has no vacuum, right? How does it integrate with a Brittain vaccum system is my question...
  23. How does the vacuum driven Brittain system work? My HI/DG with heading bug has vacuum line.
  24. That is exciting. Please keep us updated.
