  1. The Icarus does the turns. The GPS would have the outputs for the approach. Don’t know the legality of this for Instrument flight.
  2. I got a call from CC today. She said we were 4th on the list. I let her know Jerry repaired ours when in for auto-pilot and step servo is working well. Part is around $200 reconditioned from Brittain this year and they will try and hold close to that price in 2018... Nice to see progress. They ended up getting a firm in Ohio to redo tooling. It is now an injected (injection molded) part that is smooth and polymers should outperform original.
  3. Icarus is nice, but not necessary to GPS track.
  4. Thank you. If you have a photo of the screw location on the box that would be super helpful. Appreciate your reply. Scott
  5. My A&P installed mine. Get the install manual from Brittain. They will likely send for cost of postage. This is not a big deal install.
  6. Not my experience. My Garmin GNC300XL has analog left and right. Accu-Trak works very well on a GPS heading. I also have an Accu-Flite and truth be told I use the heading bug more than the GPS for nav tracking in my plane. Good luck on your search. I found both on EBay.
  7. You two have a much better understanding of your pitch/altitude hold systems than I do. Thank you for the read. I am glad that I had the system installed, but the altitude hold is wonky in my plane. My co-owner flew the plane to witchita and Brittain did install. I had the Accu-Trak and Accu-Flite already installed and the decision was made to NOT (due to space under the panel) install in cabin. The diaphragm is in the rear by the retractable step. When trimmed for level flight and you pull the pitch you must then adjust aggressively the trim (to trim out) down force...The window is NOT aligned (one is high one is low) when level flight/pitch is obtained with manual trim. I think the system could be adjusted, but you would need to do multiple flights adjusting a little to get right. NOT optimal to have the system in the rear of the plane no doubt...System hunts A LOT in rough air (altitude hold) so I do not use under those flight conditions (if you are into repeated porpoiseing you would love it)... I had a refurbed step servo and all vacuum lines replaced when in Kansas at Brittain. Should have had them also install the control that is in the T&B. Mine is by the hydraulic fluid pot on pilot side access (Not easy to get to). I have the unit if mine starts to go...
  8. Me too Kris. The “saga” was worth it. I was way behind in software and the purchase of current mapping etc. was overdue. Looking forward to flying behind it with the updates.
  9. I am based at CID. Yes, there are tie downs by the West side Self Serve Fuel Pump. There is likely hanger space available in the large hanger adjacent to the self serve pump. I used to hanger there in the “group hanger” prior to stepping up to a private hanger. Cedar Rapids Airport Commission handles hanger rental. PM me for more information. Enjoy your stay in C.R. Check out Czech Village (Parlor City) for a great burger/meal and about 100 beers on tap.
  10. It’s a work of art Lance. You have moving art that likely sounds as unique and awesome as it looks. Agree with Ross LOVE the tank...and the spokes are a close second. Just stunning. A true labor of love. Enjoy.
  11. I drive a Malibu...for work...because it’s free. Life is too short to fly slow planes and drive econo-boxes. They get you to point B, They likely are easy on fuel...and less expensive to insure.... NOPE. Unlike airplanes you don’t have to be wealthy to own an automobile that is a pleasure to drive as well as easy on the eyes.
  12. Very different cars, but BOTH are awesome.
  13. Need four more to sound like those F cars. LOL
  14. Right up there with my dentist from years ago. Had a P-51, A Harvard, A Willy’s Jeep with 30-cal mounted and a boat-load of Robert Taylor WWII art work on the walls. Nicer cabinets and furnishings than my home....Just a beautiful set-up. Yours is magnificent too. Enjoy!
  15. NICE! Glad to see shoulder harnesses too. I had a lot of problems with the old sealed beam lights (really worthless). I put a ZeeVision HID light (brighter than LoPresti Boom Beam) in prior to LED lights becoming the rage. Did with a field approval before the clamps were put on by FAA...Now clamps lessoned? Anyway, I like the LED users operate all the time with light on. Bright and low draw. Long time happy customer.
  16. Never mind...My pump was “upgraded” in 2006 when it crapped out with the newer model that does NOT require the filter.
  17. How do you expose the filter on this? Does that require fuel line separation? It would seem that more problems from messing with this on an annual basis to clean screen/filter/check for debris? Any photos of filter cleaning process or verbiage on AD?
  18. Just to clarify, I see a pump and a fat stainless piece connected, then a fitting and another long piece of stainless...what is the long piece AFTER the fitting? The filter is on the fat shiny piece of stainless attached directly to the pump?
  19. Did this filter “come with the pump”? Is this a Dukes item? I do NOT remember seeing an external filter/tube with pump. This appears to be SEPARATE from the pump body, right?
  20. Is this an annual inspect replacement at annual item? With regard to models what have the filter on the Dukes pump? I had mine replaced a few years back and I talk to A&P about the screens every annual, but this “filter’ is news to me...
  21. There are always “losers” when rolling the dice on vintage machines... I have had so many positive experiences with my A&P and his team that I simply trust them with my and my families life. Mooney Service Centers and “Guru’s of the brand” are great, but I will take my 14 year relationship with a little shop in Monticello, IA any day...AND every day. Thank you very much.
  22. As I approach (VFR pilot) another subscription renewal on Pilot AP I realized that my good old soldier (696 in Air Gizmo panel dock with ships power (attached by power cord and exterior GPS antenna) hasn’t had any updates forages of either software or map/terrain/traffic/safe taxi etc....So I removed and bought a SD card for software update. Had not been updated since 2012...Then I bought a year up updates for software. That is where it got weird. My work laptop won’t let you download software and my old desk tops don’t have an SD card reader...So bought that for 12 bucks. Then my computer would not load the user I’d/pass word to fly Garmin...so on with tech support from anti-virus and found I needed to download google Chrome. That worked I’m in...and then I couldn’t get USB SD card reader to be recognized...called Garmin...then I unplugged for a third time and it worked...Then downloading on battery and hoping it lasts....it did! Success! A trip to airport to reinstall for partner that is flying for flight review.
  23. Engineers...do it in the dark...by themselves. Kind of like that, but better. I will share will my wife. She would look cute sporting your swag. Well done!
