  1. Gill gets slammed a lot on here, I’ve had Gills in the Cessna 11 or so years, 1st one was a “flooded type” and went 5+ years, went with “sealed” after that, Mooney got the sealed Gill 5 years ago... no regrets on Gills here
  2. Title says “No Clear Coat” your plane definitely HAD a clear coat at one time, I’d be very careful trying to buff to a shine as the base coat (color) probably isn’t very thick (a mil or 2) which you can burn through very quickly
  3. It’s a judgment call, personally I’d still do both and keep the best for a spare. Keeping used tires/tubes will deteriorate fairly quick in a hot hangar, I keep the tube in the tire with enough pressure to keep the tire spread 5” or so and keep it at the house, not readily available but easy enough to get should someone needs it
  4. @GEE-BEE, @Bartman glad to see you guys do pairs as well..... drives my nuts seeing one side replaced when the other side is damn near worn out
  5. Tapping generally frees up stuck brushes, as the brushes wear the produce dust, this causes the the brush to stick and not make contact....
  6. My guess is liability, most mechanical items in aviation haven’t changed much other than price. There was a guy that use to rebuild his own vacuum pumps for his Comanche, he would rebuilt it about every 300 hrs or so (before it failed) and would take less than an hour total. Spruce sells the kits for just north of $100.00. For reference, my vacuum pump on my 7.3L was $100.00 and lasted about 80k miles or 6 yrs
  7. Congrats and Welcome
  8. I recently changed one out, had no issues using 90° Snap-On Snap Ring Pliers (small set)
  9. If the roll pin is a loose fit it can be held in place with safety wire, loop it around the bottom of the handle, then run both tails through the roll pin.
  10. No one has asked, but is it possible that the plug was never tightened to begin with?
  11. Old radios can be good for making a Base Station, I have 2 170B’s eventually one will be a Base Station and the other will get mounted in the golf cart. Either could be an option for you, but neither will work in your plane
  12. Welcome to the best and most active forum I’ve seen
  13. Yep, head full of ideas and shit for brains
  14. Congrats on your new bird! if you don’t mind, next time your in the basement throwing some in a box and sending it my way, I’ll pay shipping
  15. Is 1965 “real early”? It’s still newer than a 1964 .......
  16. If it were me I would sell it “As-Is”, what you’ll spend on a Top OH will add value but not as much as the Top OH will cost
  17. Which one do you need? I’ll help look for it 1968 680001 thru 680164 POH-001190 1969 690001 thru 690020 POH-001191 1970 700001 thru 700006 POH-001191
  18. Was there supposed to be a link or pic?
  19. I seem to have the "Getting Dirty" part mastered, need to work on the size and alignment
  20. @A64Pilot 1” schedule 20 PVC, Hope it helps
  21. just try and leave..... Your knowledge and generosity in helping us out is priceless
  22. I’ve got one I made a few years back, will snap a pic tomorrow while at the hangar if no one else does
  23. It’s cleaner than most, I remove the paper media and fold it back and then wrap it in several blue shop towels, then everything goes into a clean pan of 100LL and hopefully I don’t find anything big enough to have a serial number on it
  24. @Yetti using a lathe seems like it would be a big mess or at least if I were doing it. I generally cut the filter open while the oil is draining, then squeeze the oil out of the media in the vise.
