  1. Pretty happy with my new Sandia SAI 340. It is installed as a backup AI ( I guess you can use it as a primary too). The cost was about $3000 installed. It took 4 hours just because it didn't fit right next to my HSI. The hole had to be filed out a little. Otherwise it should take probably 2 hours. Flew with it today for 3 hours and fine adjusted tilt, roll, speed, altitude and speed limitation indicators. Very easy to set up and operate. I like Auto Baro feature. It sets the altimeter setting itself based on the airport elevation. It is pretty close to reported setting. The display response is smooth and looks very close to the primary AI movement. Together with the speed and altitude indication it is very nice addition to the safety while flying often IMC. Baterry should last about two hours.
  2. I started my training in this DA-20. I switched to another plane at another airport when I was 38 hours in the training because I wanted to fly 4 seater. Two weeks later my instructor died and his student got hurt in this crash. The the cause of the accident? Very simple. Overweight on the hot day. http://www.ntsb.gov/_layouts/ntsb.aviation/brief.aspx?ev_id=20130531X45544&key=1
  3. Cody, my other question was about the T/O RPM. My CGR30 reads now 2610 RPMs on T/O. It was 2670 before the prop and governor overhaul. Is it way to adjust it? Who should do that? Whoever overhauled the gov or any mechanic? thanks
  4. Thanks Cody. I will get it balanced.
  5. My MSC sent it to East Coast Prop Services. I just checked the logbook and it says it was dynamically balanced. But I don't think they did it while attached to the plane. I think it has to balanced together with spinner and bulkhead. Not an expert on the props. Cody? Thanks.
  6. I got my plane today after long annual. One of the items on the list was overhauled prop and governor ( the reason was more than 16 years since new and leaking governor). I had my prop ( 3 blade McCualey) balanced last year and it was pretty smooth. I noticed today that I can feel more vibration than before annual. Specially at lower RPMs. 1. Should be the prop balanced after the overhaul? 2. My take off RPMs were 2610 compare to 2670 before the annual? Is it too low? Does it affect the take off performance? Can governor be adjusted to higher RPMs? Thanks.
  7. I finally got my plane from the annual today. Short flight from N87 to BLM. I could probably make it on Saturday and take Adam with me from BLM. It depends how my day will go tomorrow. I would really like to fly in the pattern for few hours to make sure all is good. I can confirm tomorrow by the end of the day if it is not too late. Bob Ross
  8. I have GTN750 installed. I need to check what software version I have. How do you upgrade to the newest version? Avionic shop has to do that?
  9. How much are they and from where? Thanks.
  10. Very nice. Congrats.
  11. What is your experience for best executed Power Off 180 in M20J ? Pattern altitude Distance from the runway on down wind Selecting Aiming point Selecting Touch down point When to power to idle? When to deploy flaps? When to lower gear? Target gliding speed? Do you slip if too high? Do you land when practicing? Any concerns, shock cooling, prop in yellow range? Thank you?
  12. What does the L-I-F-T stand for in your checklist?
  13. I have replaced my fuel pump few month ago and it also indicated pressure above 30psi. We have troubleshoot it with my mechanic for many hours. It was really annoying as my engine monitor gave me red light warning all the time. I called the manufacturer and they said it will adjust itself as the new spring is too strong. And sure enough after few hours of flying it dropped to where it should be.
  14. It is inside of the spinner.
  15. It looks like my seals on my prop finally gave up in this cold weather. The annual is coming soon and I will call my MSC and ask if they can also handle the prop repair. My governor is leaking as well. The prop is 3 blade McCauley. It has 830 hrs since new and I believe it wasn't touched since then. What steps should I take? Ask my mechanics to handle it or remove it and send for overhaul? Is it safe to fly with this kind of leak to the shop about 15 minutes?
  16. I have U.S. Standard and U.S. IFR subscriptions for my Garmin Pilot. What additional advantage would give me Jeppesen Nav Data Add-On ? It says recommended for Flight Stream 210 user which I have installed. My current subscriptions works with 210 just fine. Thanks.
  17. Congrats Chris. I'd like to get my commercial this spring. I was thinking about what plane to use. My J or rent school plane? Any ideas? Pros and Cons? Thanks.
  18. Merry Christmas to all.
  19. Mike, You were only one with real camera. Where are the pictures?
  20. It was my first but really great. WE HAVE TO DO THAT MORE OFTEN. Sorry I had to leave a little bit earlier but I had 3 hours flight to NC to pick my Marine for holidays. See you next time.
  21. Bob, how do you know when to update software in the 750 and 88? Thanks.
  22. Sure. As soon as I have it installed.
  23. I am definitely the handle guy. The handle position gives you instant visual reference. You don't have to translate those numbers. I have tried to practice emergency procedures with AI on my iPhone from Garmin Pilot and the fast changing VSI numbers drove me crazy. I had tendency to overcorrect and overcontrol everything. This Sandia will be my backup instrument and since it includes all vital parameters plus battery backup it should be a great addition to the safety improvement in case of emergency. And my turn coordinator just died.
  24. Yes. You just need to use the Ts to split the primary lines.
