I always used the Blackstone lab for my oil analysis. Last couple of the, had elevated metals readings. The very last one I sent to Blackstone and AV Lab to get more results to compare. The results are almost identical, which is good. No big changes from last few analysis and almost no differences between two labs. I also sent my filter to AV Lab. They found some flakes in it. Please take a look and let me know what you think. My concern is that I need to get my plane down to Naples Florida from NJ and I hope it is going to last for 6 hours. Once I am down there I can do whatever is needed it to take care of the engine. It has 940hrs since new. I will do IRAN. The engine runs strong, compression was good at last annual 100 hrs ago, oil consumption is 1qt/ 7-8hrs, oil is pretty clean after 25 hrs. I fly regularly at least once a week. BTW what is GRIT in the filter? It shows " major " . Thanks.

1. Why is it black and white? 2. Do you use the propeller filter on? 3. Does the camera have the image stabilizer? It looks like it's floating in the cockpit.

Trust me, many, many, many, many Chinese and European people would love to drive their own car. Not to mention own plane. The neighbor's grass is alway greener.

Definitely some kind of mobile app. I used Sportys IFR app. You can study, learn, watch videos, take practice exams anywhere anytime. Nice graphical tool. Really helps. I believe the Kings have something similar or better.

New pilot looking for some Moony time in Tampa Bay

Not just for foreigners. That's why I am here. Never looked back. And it would be impossible to own and fly my plane there among other things. -

Born in Czechoslovakia. In US since 2000. NY and NJ. Moving to Naples private airpark in January 2017. We should get together once I am down there. -

I have just calculated how much cost a pound of fish when you go fishing on your $150k boat compare to one from the supermarket. Do you want to know the numbers?

You have ruined my day. I was about to go flying.

As I have mentioned in another post I am moving from NJ to Florida - Naples area. I have a current partner in the plane but he doesn't even have a PPL yet. I would possibly like to transfer his share to a new partner(s). Testing waters. The share will be in the $50k area. Depends on my partner's good mood. I bought the plane in December 2013. It had new IO360 A3B6 engine installed in 1999 with only 485 hrs. ( I was aware of the engine low activity risks). I have put 470 hours in three years with no major problems. No money spared to keep it in good shape. I fly the plane at least couple times a week. Here are some facts. I will post some pictures as soon as I have the current ones. 1977 Money M20J always hangared. All kind of mods. NDH TTAF ( not sure as I don't have logbooks in front of me) cca 3000hrs IO 360 A3B6 Engine TTSN 953hrs POH 100 hrs. Paint 1999. Still probably 8/10 Interior - DIY Airtex, new carpets and side panels, repainted plastic panels, new seats leather upholstery - 2014 New starter, new mechanical fuel pump, new electric fuel pump, new tires, Spent $ 6500 after buy - new brakes and rotors, new rubber discs and a lot of other things. Spent $ 13,000 on last annual - rigging, POH, prop governor ovehauled, mags overhauled, resealed tank, etc. Panel: Electronics International CGR 30P engine monitor with all primary and secondary functions. No old gauges. GTN750, GDL88, Flightstream210, Sandia 340 back up AI, Century IIB autopilot coupled to the GPS, Strikefinder,

I am based at KBLM. 1. Long runway but no approach / glide slope lights. 2. VOR A and GPS approaches only 3. Should be plenty of hangars available. $ 475/month 4. Gas delivered by truck or self station 5. No maintenance shop or mechanic on the field 6. Taxiways are terrible. Chunks of asphalt, cracks, rocks, pebbles and sand everywhere. My prop got overhauled and after two hours it looked exactly as before. 7. Very little activity on the field. No flying club, no pilot organization, no life. Sometimes I come on beautiful Saturday and it is like a ghost town. It is a private airport and I think it is way too big to keep it in a good shape. There are many buildings, warehouses, all kind of business and storage that has nothing to do with aviation. Everything is old and rusty. But it is a good location, long runway / multiple runways.

We are thinking about moving to Florida - Naples area. It would be work related , possibly opening new company branch down there. I am in the audio video / smart homes automation business. How is the flying down there? Hangar availability and cost at KAPF ? Livability in general? Thansk

I don't think it is from the cutting process. I use the filter cutter that makes very fine thin cut and I am careful not to contaminate the filter even with the paint that peels off. I cut the pleats with very sharp knife and be careful not to cut into the metal part of the filter. The pics below shows the substance from my filter that was attached to the rare earth magnet after washing the pleats in the min spirit. It hardened over night and it was like very hard piece of coal. When I broke it and rubbed on the piece of paper towel and my fingers there is absolutely no visible metal particles. More confusion... I put it last night in the aceton that is probably stronger than mineral spirits and will try to separate the clean metal parts today.
-
I have cut open the filter, cut out the pleats and visually inspected it every single time since I bought the plane in 2014. I put 450 hours on the engine. I also used the mineral spirits and coffee filter method. But I just kind of run the pleats through mineral spirit. This is the first time i used the mineral spirit aggressive washing and strong rare earth magnet method. As I have mentioned before, there is absolutely nothing on the filter magnet ( Tempest filter ) .

I have posted in another topic my concern about my engine making metal. I will keep flying and change the oil maybe after 10 hours and check the oil and filter again. But I don't expect any miracle improvement. Where should I get my engine checked once I decide to pull the plug. I guess the cylinders have to be pulled and cam and lifters checked. Any recommendation? I will call Air mods too. Thanks

Elevated iron in the oil analysis repot made me to take a closer look. I am not panicking and I will keep flying and keep my eye on the things but I will start to look for somwbody to help me to investigate this one. Probably pull the cylinders would be a good idea. I was always afraid that something like this happens since I bought the plane with new engine installed in 1999 and they fly only 485 hrs until I bought the plane in 2014. I have put over 450 hrs on the engine since then.

I use Tempest filter with magnet. There is absolutely nothing on the magnet in the filter. That's why I was so surprised. The magnets I use ( and you can see I have bunch of them stacked) are so strong that it breaks if you try to pull them apart.
-
I don't know. It doesn't even feel like a metal. It feels like magnetized dust. I think I will re washed it in the spirits again.
-
I change my oil 25 and filter 50 hours. 938 hrs on IO 360 A3B6. I used somebody else's trick from the forum to wash my filter in the mineral spirit, let it sit over night and then apply strong rare earth magnet to the bottom to the plastic container. The magnet stuck to the bottom so hard that I thought I have a whole cam shaft in it. I moved the magnet around and then pulled it on the side of the container. The picture shows what I got. I didn't find any visible metal ( now I can see al least one flake in the picture) but it all feels like a wet dust. It feels like a velvet to the touch. If I used only a coffe filter and then look for the metal I wouldn't find anything. My oil analysis has elevated iron too. It went from around low 30 to low 50 ppm last time before this oil change. What do you think?
