  1. Thank you very much for the clarification. ACU is inlcuded with Aspen 1000 PRO, right?
  2. But I thought that ACU included with Aspen is enough to drive the Century IIB. I reached to Aspen twice. No response so far.
  3. Do you know how much was the EA100 installed ? Do I need one for my Century IIB AP? I got quoted $5400 and that seems a little too much. Thanks
  4. I did and received similar answer. Step by step.
  5. I got some quotes for Aspen 1000 PRO as I got excited about their last promotions. Once the avionic shop quoted me AP EA100 interface ( that I think don't even need as I have Century IIB only with no pitch control) for $ 5400 I got cold feet. The GAD 29B for $ 425 sounds much more reasonable.
  6. My Century IIB doesn't turn to the heading bug setting. In the HDG position it just turns right. It looks like it works fine in NAV and OMNI modes. Where should I start to look?
  7. Never done. Never will. ( In the Mooney ).
  8. On my first take off ( I usually don't cycle the governor more than once and very little RPM drop) my RPM reach 2700. Oil is around 140d hot. On my next take off the RPM is 2650 and oil is around 155d. On my third take off my RPM is 2630 and oil temp is around 185d. I know that because I just got the Savvy Analysis back today. So it looks like I need to adjust my governor to higher max RPM and be careful on the first take off with cooler oil not to overspeed or wait until oil is hotter and cycle it few more times to get it into the prop. Does it make sense?
  9. I have 77 J S/N 355. My was all the way up on the co-pilot side. Impossible to see. Almost impossible to remove. Impossible reinstall. How did they think we should adjust voltage on that? Changed location to more accessible one. I changed my alternator for Plane Power and I thought ( and bought ) that new regulator will work. Wrong. It's not certified for J. It is sitting on the shelf now. Super hard to get original one. I know some people send it to to Don Maxwell and he repairs them.
  10. I don't know if it is related to this topic but I ask anyway. I filed last IFR plan when I came down to FL two months ago. I filed only on my GP app. Never on FLTPLAN.com. But I have an account with FLTPLAN.com. I always got ATC proposed route back to my Garmin Pilot App and email from FTLPLAN.com with the proposed route and it was updated few times before I took off. And it was pretty accurate I have to say. But last few times I tried to file IFR I got nothing from either Garmin ( except confirmation email that plan will be filed) or from FLTPLAN.com. Any ideas. Thanks
  11. As soon as I put my engine back on the firewall ( probably this weekend) I would like to stop by to check it out and say hello. I am in the Wing South air park in Naples ( FA37) and it would be interesting to compare. Also, once I have my things in order I would like to do the same thing and invite Mooney friends to check out our air park, Smaller but beautiful. Bunch of land and houses for sale.
  12. Nope. I have examined them with my magnifying glass. No signs of movement.
  13. They sent brand new starter. They could just tight the bolts, right?
  14. I have read and hear from different sources recently that the Phillips X/C 20W50 oil is recommended for the overhauled engine break in. I know that straight mineral oil is way to go but I would like to hear some opinions. Thanks
  15. What Voltage regulator do you use now? I bought new one ( R1224) from PlanePower together with alternator but then realized it is not good for M20J.
  16. I am just curious what is the torque for these bolts on J? I will be putting my engine back soon.
  17. Nope. The bolts are torqued from factory and they have safety tabs. They didn't move a bit. And you don't touch those when installing the starter. It is one assembled piece. That's why I said it is something internal because no way those bolts got loose.
  18. Wow. 1. I can tell that that starter wasn't like this before I put it in the plane. It looked properly torqued and solid when I installed it. 2. It happened between the annuals. 3. Now I feel really like it is my fault that I don't remove and check the starter before every flight. Thank you for your advise but I will not follow it. I am sending the starter back to the factory and wait for their opinion. It's still under warranty.
  19. In the process of the removal my engine the starter came off of course. I have installed this starter probably 1 year ago and it has 160hrs on it. I couldn't believe that is already falling apart. You can see huge gap between the motor and the gearbox. It is all loose and shaking. I am very glad I found it in my hangar. It could probably make some serious damage if it broke during the engine start. And it is not like loose screw that some lazy worker didn't tight up. It is clearly some internal design mess. But what really bothers me ( like really really ) that we can not touch our " certified aircraft " or install new proven technology in them and then all this certified life depending parts that cost insane money are piece of crap. It makes me really mad.
  20. I agree. We see over and over that sometime the oil analysis didn't show any signs of elevated metals and filter was contaminated. In my case I had elevated metals in the oil last three on changes. I also cut open filter every time and I could see increasing number of metal flakes. I sent filter for analysis too and they reported iron and steel alloy used in the lifters. That prompted me to pull the cylinder and I found that those lifter ar really going bad.
