  1. Goop hand cleaner for cleaning the belly I have found that Meguiar's Plast-X Clear Plastic Cleaner and Polish works well on old windows. Meguiar's Hybrid Ceramic Wax puts a shine on a 40 year old paint job. To be fair I ran a buffer over it several years ago. I carry two tubes 2 spark plugs and wrenches to change. 2 stainless brushes. tywraps. Stratux for ADSB in
  2. The plane got current last week. I got current yesterday. I did a nice circuit of local airports today. Feels good to to have the freedom of flight restored.
  3. When tempest had their center electrode welding outsourced several years ago several people found them missing. I am guessing they don't outsource anything. I have always used Tempest Filters. The work as advertised.
  4. I used to have pockets on the back of the seats. When I redid the backs I did not take the time to make them. I did put one long pocket at the base of the back seat along with the two pockets at the base of the front seats. There is a medium flat tupperware plastic box behind me with docs and batteries and such. Pens and hand held compass in the front seat pocktes.
  5. The way to do this accurately is create a jig with two .256 holes located on CL 1.250 apart with a slot cut that matches the top of the seat rail. Then set a stop on the drill bit to go only .25 depth in the seat rail. Use two drill bits on the jig one as the locator for the previous drilled hole and one to drill the hole. The legalities and the attachments can be discussed with your IA. mooney_seat_rail_mod.pdf
  6. It's a square piece of plexiglass. Remove the plastic on top. My indicator piece was broken. I made a new indicator pieces and used a vinyl printer to make the green indicator.
  7. No experience with them but I am think a call to Autopilots Central in Tulsa may be a good step.
  8. I am consistently surprised how easy a tub of $2.00 Goop that you can get at Homer dan will cut through everything that ends up on a plane.
  9. Start with the simple stuff. Belt tension. Then go to the wiring. Maybe even have a new wiring harness made.... One thing I learned is fly to the most options. Emergency is good because you get priority handling. Good outcome. You passed the test.
  10. I tied (with wing lacing cord https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/pnpages/11-02012.php?gclid=CjwKCAiAz--OBhBIEiwAG1rIOjiFjCXN6J41kDhbcnXuj874FZKg4jGvI81EYhKfkOTBOW747OPhQhoCl_gQAvD_BwE) It's more traditional and looks factory Then I got lazy and did some with tiewraps.
  11. You could take the case bolts out around the leak and very small amount of Permatex #3 in the bolt hole. I had one mechanic suggest this and one mechanic think it not a good idea. But it stopped leaking at the case half seam.
  12. When we were going to pick up the plane the transition instructor took a look at me and said "you know you bought a mooney right?" When we were flying back he looked over at me and said "Looks like you fit"
  13. I know two of the instructors. have lunch with them every so often. Lot's of information between the two of them. They are fantastic pilots. The one thing I learned early on is never try to out cool them on stories. they will always have a better one. "So there I was getting ready to fly a mission at Top Gun"
  14. Back during primary I found that more people die on bicycles than GA Aircraft per year. I have been hit 3 times on a bike and broke my sacrum last time a guy turned in front of me and I rolled off the hood onto the ground.
  15. When you look straight on a Mooney. It always looks like the Port gear leg is bent in a bit. I don't think the gear is square.... or plumb.
  16. the F is a test bed for a J. There is a clamp you need.
  17. If that is the case then the lower hoses should be done also. Mine broke in half when I bent them.
  18. something happened along the 1990s to the 2000s to the cam and lifters.... Some EPA reg was followed or someone retired and then a bad batch came along and caused some spensive failures.
  19. If it is old. 5606 is good down to -65F. Every 5 years the fluid should be replaced. Check the logs to see when it was done last.
  20. Have $10,000 left for after you purchase the plane to fix stuff.
  21. No need to bleed. unless of course you have a soft pedal, but it seems more like a gunk preventing the calipers from sliding
  22. yes. Snow and stuff can jam up the calipers. The calipers slide along rails and should be cleaned and lightly lubed.
  23. but is'nt that why we are told to fly our planes alot so we burn off all the moisture in the oil?
  24. Are you sure that is steam? and not oil vapor?
  25. I'd like to think the water vapor escapes though the crankcase vent tube while running. as the engine cools and contracts, I would think you are pulling more moisture into the now open crank case. https://www.aopa.org/news-and-media/all-news/2018/april/flight-training-magazine/how-it-works-breather-tube
