TWinter Posted August 31, 2013 Report Posted August 31, 2013 I have been thinking about this idea for a quite a while and wanted to get some feedback from you guys/gals. I own a business (health club) here in west Tennessee. In the past we have been involved in fund raiser events for St. Jude Childrens Hospital located in Memphis. Most of you are familiar with St. Jude and what a great cause it is. They are HQd in Memphis. Dyersburg is about 80 miles from Memphis. We have done a few events at my health club (fitness events mostly), but I have been thinking of a much different spin next year relating to our Mooneys and GA. I am tossing around the idea of a Fly-In here to KDYR (Dyersburg, TN). We have a meduim size field with an airport restaurant and rental cars on the field. The City of Dyersburg has plenty of hotels/motels for a weekend event. Dyersburg is a smaller city of about 15,000 folks, but draw from a county population base of about 75,000. The idea I've had in mind is maybe a fly-in with a plane/car/bike shows, outside music entertainment, Memphis BBQ and local vendors if I can talk them into coming etc..Maybe an aviation poker run to local airports (or atleast the airports that might want to participate). All funds raised would be donated to St. Jude. If some of you wanted to break off early and hit downtown Memphis for the last day (Sunday) that might work out as well. BB Kings and all the neat blues places. The other option would be to coordinate the fund rasier and it actually be hosted closer to Memphis (smaller adjacent airport, not MEM). This would allow for fly-in folks to visit Beale St and downtown Memphis on Saturday night. Since I don't have the contacts in the Memphis area that I have here in Dyersburg #2 would take much more logistics, but probably a great time with more variety of night-life. It would be primarily be catered to the Mooney folks, but open to anyone who wanted to show up. The more the merrier. Who knows it could be the start to an annual event. I would of course see if I could talk Mitch and Jolie (the Super Ambassadors) into helping out with advice and whatever they could do to assist. Of course any and all volunteers would be appreciated. I know we have several Mooney Ambassadors (sp?) on the forum. I am thinking maybe early spring, but I know from experience it takes lots of time to plan these things. I have been a avid V8 Motorcycle guy over the years and we did something along these lines called "East meets West"..Just kind of a meet and greet, enjoy each others company and promote GA for a good cause. Any thoughts or input?..I was thinking Tennessee was a pretty central location from what I can tell on the forum addresses. I'm just looking for some feedback. Beats $100 hamburger runs. We have a relationship with St. Jude and I'm sure they would love the idea. Thoughts? pros/cons? I realize the Mooney factory has a spring event, we would of course plan around that. Or am I thinking too far outside the box and there would not be enough GA participation and I just need to stick to my health club events..LOL No hard feelings either way, just thought it might be something different. Rwsavory Posted August 31, 2013 Report Posted August 31, 2013 Great idea. I think Dyersburg would be a good location for a fly-in. 1 Quote
tomn Posted September 1, 2013 Report Posted September 1, 2013 I think it would be a great idea - I'd come if at all possible. 1 Quote
DrRobb Posted September 1, 2013 Report Posted September 1, 2013 I'd try to make it. I've flown in there once but not in several years, 1 Quote
mooneygirl Posted September 1, 2013 Report Posted September 1, 2013 I think it is a wonderful idea. I love it when we, as Mooney owners, do a charitable event. Not only is it "feel good" but it is great for our communities to know about our airports and what we can do to be a good neighbor. If you would like help with promoting to our community just drop me a line. We can make it a Mooney Ambassador event and help get the word out. Go Tom 1 Quote

Go Tom I was counting on your and Mitch's help if we do this. I'll be in touch with you soon and see if we can toss some ideas around. Lets keep an eye on the thread and see what kind of turnout we might expect. Within the next few weeks I'll get in contact with our city officials and get some city input. I can't think of a better reason to have Mooney weekend get together while supporting a great cause. Right now it's just an idea, but it would be great to make it happen. 1 Quote
mooneygirl Posted September 1, 2013 Report Posted September 1, 2013 The more advanced notice the better. Maybe take a look at this article: http://www.aopa.org/News-and-Video/All-News/2012/April/26/Become-an-ambassador-for-GA 1 Quote
Danb Posted September 1, 2013 Report Posted September 1, 2013 Sounds like a blast. St Jude's is a primary charity for me I am from De but go to Tunica. Kuta a couple times a yr and Beale st. Is really. Be careful where you wander to though..I would come and visit MEM and have un at the Casinos in Tunica. Great folks work there. Very cool!,,, 1 Quote
