VetRepp Posted August 23, 2013 Report Posted August 23, 2013 Does anyone know why Mooney Nose gear doors are asymmetrical when opened? Quote
KSMooniac Posted August 23, 2013 Report Posted August 23, 2013 I believe it just has to do with the kinematics of the opening sequence due to the overlapping joint. It sure doesn't look right, though! Fortunately the mechanism is simple with a single link to each door. I'd rather have that vs. more links and cranks and such that can wear out and require more expense to maintain. Quote
TWinter Posted August 24, 2013 Report Posted August 24, 2013 Out of the blue one day my hanger-mate who is very much a seasoned pilot told me, " Tom, looks like the nose gear door on the Mooney needs adjustment.. it looks out of whack.". I told him that was normal and that these Mooney's do everything slightly different. He just gave me a strange look like, yeah right... Quote
N201MKTurbo Posted August 24, 2013 Report Posted August 24, 2013 The doors on my 67F were symmetrical. The doors on my 77J overlap and are asymmetrical. I think the Exec doors were better. Quote
Hank Posted August 24, 2013 Report Posted August 24, 2013 And pigeon toed ! Not really, it just looks that way because of wing dihedral and the tapered wing thickness. Quote
201er Posted August 25, 2013 Report Posted August 25, 2013 The gear doors are asymmetrical to help counteract left turning tendencies on takeoff roll. Quote
