N601RX Posted May 9, 2013 Report Posted May 9, 2013 My IA forwarded this to me a few minutes ago. It was released this morning. I think most people swapped them out a couple of years ago. NE-13-32.pdf Quote
rbridges Posted May 9, 2013 Report Posted May 9, 2013 I'll have to check my logs, but does the "B" hub keep you out of this bulletin? Quote
N601RX Posted May 9, 2013 Author Report Posted May 9, 2013 I didn't read it that close since it didn't apply to me, but I think it probably has to do with the top prop spinner problems a few years ago. Quote
Bob_Belville Posted May 9, 2013 Report Posted May 9, 2013 The spinner p/n is inside the spinner. I have a newer (2009) Scimitar prop, haven't figured out if I am involved. Email reply from Hartzell tech support: "If you have a metal spinner, you are probably affected." Quote
kerry Posted May 9, 2013 Report Posted May 9, 2013 I just spoke with Hartzell and they say its for top prop conversions only. Quote
rbridges Posted May 9, 2013 Report Posted May 9, 2013 I just spoke with Hartzell and they say its for top prop conversions only. that's good to hear (for me anyway). Quote
Bob_Belville Posted May 9, 2013 Report Posted May 9, 2013 Kerry, Top Prop is Scimitar, right? That doesn't seem to jive with what I was told by H. tech serv. " Quote
KSMooniac Posted May 9, 2013 Report Posted May 9, 2013 Yes, Top Prop = Scimitar. I can't believe in this day and age that Hartzell cannot make a spinner that lasts, or an AD-free propeller... Quote

I was told the conversion goes back 10 years. If you have questions you can speak with Eric at Hartzel ph#937-778-5741 Quote
Bennett Posted May 9, 2013 Report Posted May 9, 2013 I suggest checking with your regular shop. I have the Top Prop 2 bladed Scimitar with the long metal spinner, and so I called Mike at LASAR. He has read the Bulletin, and he said it doesn't apply to my J. Nice to dodge some more expense, for a change. Quote
Bennett Posted May 9, 2013 Report Posted May 9, 2013 For clarification: Two years ago I had a spinner/backing plate problem, and Hartzell replaced both under warranty. I think they gave me the updated parts at that time. Quote
BigTex Posted May 9, 2013 Report Posted May 9, 2013 Looked in my parts manual for my plane and it references the spinner Part Number as 835-20. Since this bulletin is for PN's 835-54(P) or 835-58(P), I'm good... At least I think so! Quote
Dale Logsdon Posted May 10, 2013 Report Posted May 10, 2013 looks like 3 blades are safe. They use a 835-47. Quote
Bob_Belville Posted May 10, 2013 Report Posted May 10, 2013 I thought I posted but do not see. Hartzell told me that since my Scimitar prop has the "long 201" spinner because I have a 201 style cowl mod the spinner is not affected by bulletin. Quote
