The new to me M20e, 1971 vintage, has no tie down rings. My understanding is that the attach points are just outboard of the mains on each wing, please correct me if I am wrong. I need to locate a pair such that I can tie the plane down when away from home.

I belive they are 1/4" x 28 TPI threads for the tie down but I could be wrong.  Any way LASER has a set that has the jackpoints intergral to the tie down.  Or you cna go to the local hardware and get a galvalized solid eye bolt with the correct threads and ahcieve the same result.  The tie down eyes have a flat spot wher they make contact with the wing so look for that in the eye bolt when you get one.  You wil need aobut 3/4" of thereads on the eye bolt.

Laser, get the laser tie downs and jack points.

 

I have also used straps and attached to the gear to help hold the plane in the wind on my F.

I put the Lasars on my E , They work great , and they look even better....If you have the big ugly tail skid , get the Lasar tail skid ...... all three combined are under 100 dollars

I've got some stock ones if you want them. I just bought some LASAR ones.  You can have them. Just let me know where to ship and cover S&H and they're yours

I suggest the Lasar ones as well.  Work like a charm and no more worries about removing them before flight.

Speed mod?  Nah.... But they look really cool , and save you from messing around w/jacking points...

You will go at least 20 knots faster if you remove them before flight.....   Maybe the Lopresti boys can design a faring for them....

I think the whole "remove before flight" thing is more recent than our vintage birds, and was put in to protect Mooney from lawsuits involving the very rare occurence of a tie down falling off in flight . . . . I've never seen any mention of this in my delicate, browning Owner's Manual.

I found one of mine loose, in the hangar, one time. Would it have fallen out if I hadn't noticed it? The wing vibrates pretty good sometimes going through the bumps. MAC was just trying to protect themselves. I fly with both installed all the time.

Lasar sells a kit of the tiedown (wings and tail) plus stainless steel wheel covers which dresses up everything very nicely for a little over $100.  Or you can go for the galvanized eyebolts which also work fine for very little cost.  In fact I had before I went for the kit.

You should use the solid forged eyebolts, if a t storm comes by, it will unbend those eyebolts. There is a reason Mooney chose the eyebolts they did. You can get them from most high end hardware stores or McMaster Carr.
