Just confirmed with Lasar that they still don't carry the Visor Wiser for the reasons explained here in some previous threads. But they have the lenses for $25/pair. I bought a pair with the intention of manufacturing the attaching hardware myself, perhaps not for the full movement (down and sideways) but at least downwards. It looks like an interesting winter project, together with the various RC models I am building. If anybody has done it or has any ideas how to do this they are welcomed. For those who were lucky to get a Visor Wiser close up pictures of the hardware would also be appreciated. Now in winter and when the wind so dictates, the orientation of my homebase runway puts the sun right in my face . So I would like to have a sun visor because sunglasses are not enough.

They charged me $25 for the pair + shipping, UPS ground all the way to the east coast since I have no hurry for them. I was planning to buy a sheet of green acrylic and cut it myself anyways which would have been more expensive and probably would not have had the finished look that these lens will have.

As to flying at night not a bad idea but that would deprive me of the beautiful winter sunsets over the Appalachian mountains :P

Get a set of Rosen visors and cut the lens similarly to the LASAR, or install the LASAR lens in the Rosen frame if the LASAR lens is undrilled.

Rosens are terribly expensive.

Lenses are relatively cheap and easy to build.

The hardware is another story altogether. I have looked a little and have not found anything similar.

What I meant is purchase the Rosen visors, primarily for the hardware.  Of course they will come with the lens.  You can either make a new lens from tinted glass and sell the Rosen lenses (the material is not that expensive), or modify the Rosen lenses.  The modification for me is to retain access to the switches in the ceiling.  The modification would be different for each airplane depending on mounting location and  equipment.

Don, I just purchased to lenses from LASAR.  Did you come up with a way to mount them effectively and easily?

Unfortunately, this was a long time ago and someone else installed them for me. I assumed they were mounted in the same spot as the factory shades.

I installed a pair of Lasar Visors that had been logged as installed in 2000 by a previous owner's mechanic but were on the hat shelf along with the installation sheet when I got the plane in 2011. (The guy I bought the plane from was 6'4" and apparently did not need them.) I probably fussed with them a couple of hours, mostly getting the friction right on the several rod clamps.

Now that I purchased the lenses (I couldn't pass up $25 for the pair from LASAR), I need to figure out the best way to install them in my bird that has never had any (hence no existing hardware at all).  Ideas anyone?

See if you can get a review on how well it works at altitude...

Suction cups may have a tendency to let loose at 10k+ feet...

Best regards,

Not these bad boys... Can't speak above 12,000 but never had one let loose with my iPad attached.

I just tried to order, but they are actually not available yet.  You can place your order, but they are not in stock yet.  I might hold of until they are in stock to order.  I've had both my GoPro and iPad on these suction cup mounts up to 13500 and neither let go.  Anyway, they are easy to snug up if needed.

Compared to what Rosen wants and no STC or logbook entry required!  This seems to be just the ticket.

Ordered!  - well pre ordered to be exact...  PIREP when they show

Have you heard anything from RAM on these?  I flew three hours on Saturday and was really wishing I had some visors.
