Speed Merchant Posted May 16 Report Posted May 16 Hi I am considering keeping a boat in the keys half of the year.I live in east central Florida. My wife and I love to fish. We are thinking we could keep the boat at a marina or in dry storage and fly down there when we want to fish. Marathon or Key West are the only two public airports in the keys so hopefully we can find a marina or storage place close the one of the airports. Has anyone on MooneySpace ever done this? If so, I would appreciate hearing how it worked out for you. Thanks Quote
Schllc Posted May 17 Report Posted May 17 I had a few boats i did keep there years ago. I was in sombreros marina It was a few years ago, or I should say a few hurricanes ago…. docks weren’t floating which isn’t ideal but ok. Water is hostile for growth so if it’s in the water you want to hire someone to scrape pickups and zincs regularly. be aware that the insurance will require you to move your boat for a named storm or face a giant deductible or possible non coverage. These aren’t problems, just notable things that are nice to know ahead of time. it’s the keys, so expect the normal nuttiness of island life. otherwise it was great to hop on the boat and go. Quote
Speed Merchant Posted Saturday at 08:40 PM Author Report Posted Saturday at 08:40 PM Thanks for your post. I would most likely be using a dry store boat barn marina. The hurricanes or potential hurricanes could take a lot of the fun out of it. I appreciate your comments thanks. Quote
