Hi All,

Since my plane has LEMO plugs, and I need to call for clearance at an airport I frequent, I bought a David Clark One-XP headset. Great unit.

Only problem is that the control box is constantly in the way. The LEMO plug is on the left, front of the left side arm rest. So the cable and box keep snagging on me, the seat, the yoke, etc. It comes with a little clip holder, but there are no features over there to attach. I am thinking of mounting a little loop (or a full DC-specific box clip) to the side panel just under the storm window. And then, since the cable snags the yoke at times, I was going to put some 3M sticky-backed clips nearby to secure the cable run to the LEMO socket.

Any:

  • existing experiences in solving this? (clever ideas)
  • tips/tricks on mounting something to the side panel? The finish is some odd pseudo-pleather (2009 Acclaim)... Very functional but things don't stick easily to it. So I am thinking to sink a tiny wide-pitch screw. But firing screws in blindly is asking to be, well, screwed. Maybe I can fish a thin flat hook adjacent to the window to hold the box.

Thoughts appreciated! Brought to you today from The Department of First World Problems.

You could remove the window trim then attach a strap to the airframe or the top of the sidewall so the attachment is hidden under the window trim. Instead of a strap, you could make a sheet metal clip that clips to the top of the sidewall material and hangs down with whatever clip you need.

I route my headset cord/power box (Bose) over my handset mic and mic bracket on the pillar; stays very much out of the way.  But not sure you have that option without seeing your layout.  P.S. I also have a DC One headset and find the cords/power box to be a tangled mess so I use that set as my backup.

I use this:

Sporty's does not seem to have the model for Bose, but I see them on other sites including Etsy.

You can attach it with velcro and that works but when my airplane interior was re-worked at AeroComfort, Hector drilled the holders then made a backing plate and attached them to the sidewall with machine screws. and riv-nuts just below the limitation placard. It is the bomb.

Here's some photos from my temporary solution. I like the idea of a dedicated holder mounted more securely (as above, appreciate the responses!):

The 3M dual lock was a great solution for me. It took a small piece on the top and bottom of my ANR controller to secure it to the side panel. Have had 0 issues with it falling off and when I need to change batteries it pulls off easily without damaging the plastic panel.

Maybe I should give it a go. I've sometimes felt that that weird surface material doesn't bond well... OTOH 3M has a wicked assortment of glue types.

If I had the dimensions I could 3D print a custom holder for it.

I think someone has posted a print file.

But the one I got from Sporty's was 3D printed.
