I received my boots early this week, shipped very quickly and included manufacturing certificate and instruction page for boot replacement. A very pleasant experience all around. Hats off to @M20E for me for a well executed group buy.

Just bought a 1967 F and my elevator trim boots are bad, how do we start this up again?

You have some sort of altitude control on your 67?  Mine only had wing and rudder servos.  I'm still interested in a spare or two if you generate enough interest for a group buy.

Yes, I was as surprised as you when I found out that it has altitude hold... well it does when the servos are working!

Be sure to size them carefully.  The altitude hold servos are typically much larger than the rudder and ailerons.

Yes, I noticed that. I realize there must be a couple different PNs for the boot sizes.

Anyone wants to get another order going?

I think we can figure out how to do a group buy of 80% complete boots that look just like Brittain, leaving room for the owner to do another 20%(cutting a top hole for example). This way it will be legal "owner produced part."   I'm sure we could order them at $20 a boot if the order will be big enough.

I now have commitments for 14 and an addition 5 if the price the around the $100 mark.  They are giving me quantity 25 price for 20 ($102.75 each) so I'm going to go ahead and order a qty of 20.

Do you know what material did they use? I can see it says  "nitrile," but wondering if it was specific kind of nitrile? Do you have blueprint of the items? I'm about making a custom order as well.

Has anyone called Kevin to discuss specs?  Whatever original specs might be available for reference?

Yes, I called him. He was awesome, but not sure about the material and blueprint info.

For what it’s worth, I’m starting discussion about PMA boots with FAA, but even under the best circumstances it will be months. Was planning elevator boots first, since they are even harder to get than the roll. I’ve got most of a test fixture set up to show equivalence. It will depend on what hoops the FAA throws my way beyond my basic plan. Constant turmoil with FAA funding won’t help.

Unless we can use "owner produced" justification to say that the new item is a group buy that is "similar" to the diaphragm on vac- servo? The install will be completed with owner punching a center hole for the chain bolt. I got your POC from Kevin and will shoot you a txt this morning.

I agree. The only problem with the owner produced group buys is that it happens in spurts and the person running the group buy is typically AOG and will not be around for the next one. If I can get it on my PMA it might provide for a continuous source for the ones and twos that folks typically need. The PMA would not preclude owner produced parts from happening. I still have a ton of work to make it happen so it’s not certain. For example, many Brittain installs are STC, so not clear to me that there is a clean path to PMA on top of and STC.

It's great to see someone seriously pursuing this! Many (most?) of our Vintage birds had the PC system installed at the factory, then added the autopilot by STC, but they still use the same factory servos.

Memory says the PC system was introduced in '65, but I know it's in the Owners Manual for my 1970 C.

This won't affect your PMA, but it should make it easier for people to purchase and install your boots.
