PTK Posted May 8, 2012 Report Posted May 8, 2012 I'm planning a flight down to Fort Myers which will require a fuel/stretch stop. Any ideas of a nice friendly place in the SC vicinity? I was thinking of Hilton Head (HXD) but open to some more recommendations! Quote
Jeff_S Posted May 8, 2012 Report Posted May 8, 2012 Well, it depends on what you want out of your rest stop. Just walking around a bit and getting gas? Or do you want to partake of what the place has to offer for a few hours? A fun one would be Jekyll Island where you can go to the old hotel and resort area and do some shopping, all just a free shuttle away from the strip. They might not have put in gas there yet, though, in which case you'd need to pick some up at KSSI either before or after. Hilton Head is nice but obviously very commercial. Just a few ideas. Quote
1964-M20E Posted May 8, 2012 Report Posted May 8, 2012 If you are just looking for a strech and fuel Ft Stewart (LWH) near SAV has good fuel prices and a nice facillity. I just stopped there on my way to SAV to get fuel about $2/gal less than SAV. I'm not sure where you are based but it is about 570nm +/- from NJ. Quote
Cabanaboy Posted May 8, 2012 Report Posted May 8, 2012 Myrtle Beach International (KMYR) has a great new Terminal for GA, has self serve fuel. You can walk to a great area called Market Commons, has many restaurants and shops. http://www.myrtlebeachaviation.com/ http://www.marketcommonmb.com/ North Myrtle Beach Airport (KCRE) know as Grand Strand Airport Great runway, quick in and out. Near Barefoot Landing, lots of resaurants and shops 2 miles from airport. KCRE is easy in and out. http://www.bflanding.com/ Quote
xftrplt Posted May 8, 2012 Report Posted May 8, 2012 KBHC. Friendly, good fuel prices, 5k". Check out comments @ AOPA. Quote
jdrake Posted May 8, 2012 Report Posted May 8, 2012 Here are a few that I've used when traveling between Trenton and Naples. Each are friendly with reasonable fuel, courtesy cars and are convenient to V1. I generally choose based on my personal endurance for the trip. KEYF - Elizabethtown, NC (Brown Field) - closest KGGE - Georgetown, SC (Near Charleston) KSSI - Brunswick, GA (on the FL border). Stop here for fuel, then fly the 5 miles to Jekyll Island (no fuel) for lunch Quote
