Putting together an order for ACSpruce and welcome your suggestions.

I already bought packs for the external inspection covers, but I'm looking for some the small screws, washers, Tinnermans, etc. for the interior panels.

Suggestions?  Is the a pre-packed kit for another plane that has a lot of the pieces I need?

Be careful if you ordered one of the pre-packaged screw kits. I found that some of the screws were too long. In most places it doesn't matter, but there are a couple of inspection panels where screws longer than called out in the IPC can damage control push-pull tubes.

That's a good warning.  Most of my inspection panel screws were replaced with stainless years ago when I had the plane painted, but I did replace specific machine screws where the heads have gotten chewed up over the years.  The stainless is a lot softer than the regular steel.

There's not a pack that I'm aware of for the interior hardware that holds things like the plastic panels, etc., together, but you can get all that at the aviation aisle of Ace Hardware or similar places.   At least, that's where I get mine.  ;)

I believe they are mostly #6 and #4 screws and some have finishing washers.  But they're cheap enough that you could order 50 of each length that you think you might need.  Some of the smaller ones around trim are the shorter ones.  Some of the overhead are longer ones.  If you're just replacing ones with marred heads, it should hopefully be easy to see which ones you need...  But caveat...these are the screws that I used for my M20K...I'm not sure if they are the same for the M20C, but figured it's at least a good place to start.  What does your IPC show for PN's?

My IA says he has had stainless screws gall and jam in nutplates and now he puts anti seize on them. I’ve never had an issue. Has anyone else had issues with stainless screws galling?

YES!  I always use anti-seize paste (the silver stuff).  Note only needed on the machine thread screws.

I've had a ton of them do that, or at least make them very hard to remove.  T his is compounded by the fact that the stainless steel screws are softer and the Phillips heads strip - especially when using a drill!

Interesting tidbit:  Back in the WWII era, mechanics would use a drop of Milk of Magnesia on the threads as an anti-seize treatment.  I can attest that it works very well on the stainless screws and I've used it things like exhaust headers on motorcycles over the years because it doesn't smoke.

Thanks for this list.  It was the #4 and #6 screws I wanted.

Also, thanks for the suggestion to check the Parts Catalog which I was able to find here in the Browse/Downloads section (awesome!!!)

FWIW, my A&P shop is kind to let me swipe the occasional screw, but I want to replace some of the old hardware as I start working on the interior of the plane.  These little ones are so cheap on Spruce that I'm making a little kit.

Thanks!
