jamesm Posted August 25, 2024 Report Posted August 25, 2024 Is the oil cooler and and Battery relocated in SaberCowl version 1.0 ? (AFAIK) the Mid 60's battery location being behind Cylinder#4 is now in the tail ? I couldn't see the Oil cooler too well in the picture nor could I recall the head on picture showing the oil cooler's location. I the oil line but couldn't make out the location from the picture. hammdo Posted August 25, 2024 Report Posted August 25, 2024 Mine are in the same locations. My oil temps are outstanding and I’ve never had any problems - even with temps above 110° here in Texas -Don 1 Quote

hammdo Posted August 25, 2024 Report Posted August 25, 2024 Yep, that it is. David reshaped the lower and the top to be aerodynamic including the inlets… -Don Quote
Gee Bee Aeroproducts Posted August 31, 2024 Report Posted August 31, 2024 Back on the day There were two kits 3800/3900 from Russel southwest Texas aviation Baffles cowl assy i still see the bins with the dies from this project. Great mod Quote
TaildraggerPilot Posted yesterday at 12:02 AM Report Posted yesterday at 12:02 AM (edited) My 67 E has the strengthened upper cowl but with a doghouse on the engine. I’d like to see more pictures / angles of the Vans RV baffling installed on an IO-360 engine Mooney, especially from the front. The back and side baffles are pretty much the same design on all 4 cylinder Lyc’s, but my concern lies with how the intake (ramps) of the Vans-designed baffling work with the traditional pre-J Mooney intake (with Lasar cowl closure mod). That would be easy to adapt to with keeping the stock intake of the E cowling. I used the Vans composite induction for the IO engine and adapted it to fit inside my cowling mod. For yours, simply leave your lower cowling on and use some tag board to fit the ramps to your lower cowling with the LASAR enclosure, leaving yourself at least a 3/4 inch gap between the ramp edge and the cowling. The cowl seal will take up this gap and keep the baffling from contacting the cowling during engine start and shutdown. Quite simple to do. David Quote

Here’s a few photos of the area you’re interested in with the Vans baffling. You won’t be able to fit your air intake like I did unless you change the spinner and get more room. It would be much easier to do yours with just adapting the baffling. Quote
MB65E Posted yesterday at 02:34 AM Report Posted yesterday at 02:34 AM Looks Awesome. These pictures answered a few questions I had when I PM’d you. Your Cowl solves several problems with the older airplanes. All one 337. Mooney really solved a lot of issues when they did the J cowl. On my 65e. 1. I’m kinda tired of the FWD oil cooler 2. Crappy intake bellows 3. Horrible lower cowl removal process. -Matt Quote
Gee Bee Aeroproducts Posted yesterday at 12:24 PM Report Posted yesterday at 12:24 PM Sad South west Texas aviation no longer sells the baffles and cowl assys kit 3800 or 3900 Quote
