For me, home built helicopter is right after home built ejection seat and home built cardio pulmonary bypass machine... Although, to be honest, as a teenager I was looking at plans for a home built gyro copter. Think the Mad Max movies. 2 Quote
BlueSky247 Posted June 28 Report Posted June 28 Put me down for the g-loc experience. I’m eyeing Wagstaff’s school as the next bucket list item. Quote

Certainly our certified airplanes provide a variety of ways to hurt us and others, but homebuilt? Would I trust myself to build it? Would I trust some other yo yo? Just airing out my personal feelings and fears -- carry on. Quote

Those things are hard to fly. but like anything, once you get the hang of it all is good. Quote
BlueSky247 Posted June 28 Report Posted June 28 @toto That would be just the ticket for those of us that have to use fields an hour from home. 1 Quote

Paul Thomas Posted June 28 Report Posted June 28 I'm building an RV7 and would like to get my CFI so those are in my future. In the meantime, we'll enjoy the Mooney. It's a sweet airplane and perfectly suited for our mission. 1 Quote

Frankly, I think taking out my own appendix after downing a fifth of scotch is safer than flying a home built helicopter! 1 1 Quote

Helicycle sells something similar with the engine for a little over $75,000. Plus avionics, etc... But do you really want a single seater? Roughly double that price for a two-seater. And 500, (so they say), hours to build. Quote

The website suggests that the XET turbine engine is about $15k on top of the kit. The single seat design is (I assume) to meet Part 103 restrictions - which would not apply to the turbine, but would apply to the piston models. They also have a fully electric model now Quote

Did you note in that video you posted the pilot never got more than 5 feet off the ground! And, spent VERY little time moving more than a few miles an hour. Quote

But if I were flying a home-built helicopter with a rotor driven by a little rubber belt, I'd probably stay pretty close to the ground too Quote
